Dear Parents,
On November 21-22, we will be reviewed by an Accreditation Team from the Diocese. They will be representing two
different accreditation systems: Missouri NonPublic and AdvancED. The staff and I are currently working on our plan
while asking for input both from our School Advisory Council and PTO. Here are some questions and answers related to
the Accreditation process.
Why Does Accreditation Matter?
Accreditation is designed to help educational institutions boost their ongoing performance efforts for the benefit of their
students. AdvancED and MO NonPublic insist on a relentless pursuit of excellence – for itself and for the institutions they
accredit. This ethic of excellence ensures that institutions will find rich benefits from accreditation and that parents can
confidently make informed decisions about their children’s education, knowing their child’s school is accredited.
Accreditation matters because our students deserve the highest level of educational excellence possible.
How Do We Get Accredited?
AdvancED and MO NonPublic view accreditation through a broad lens. While some regard the accreditation process as
the means to the end—the coveted accreditation seal—we see the process as providing us with additional material that
helps to impact student performance and drive sustained continuous improvement.
The accreditation process is also collaborative and comprehensive. The process yields the best results for schools and
school systems, and ultimately for students, by uniting community stakeholders, including education experts who provide
personalized assistance to institutions and educational systems. By bringing together all those who are invested in our
school’s success, we build support for our vision and goals.
The AdvancED Accreditation Process is comprehensive, evaluating all the parts of the school. The process focuses on
vision and goals, evaluates teaching and learning, and examines how results are documented and resources are
allocated. The three domains that are closely examined are Catholicity, Educational and Institutional.
Standards for Quality
Standard 1: Purpose and Direction
Standard 2: Governance and Leadership
Standard 3: Teaching and Assessing for Learning
Standard 4: Resources and Support Systems
Standard 5: Using Results for Continuous Improvement
We would like everyone’s input and suggestions as we move St. Regis School into the future. If you ever have any ideas,
suggestions or questions, I welcome them. Feel free to email me at jsmith@regisschool.org.
Sincerely,
Jennifer Scanlon-Smith

WATCH D.O.G. Dads Program
We want to thank all of our dads, grandfathers and father figures who came out to last week’s Watch D.O.G.S. Pizza
Party. We had an amazing turnout, and we cannot wait to see all of our role models in the building. Just a reminder that
this year, our volunteers will be following a schedule with various duties throughout the school building and campus. We
believe it is so very important for our children to see the Watch D.O.G.S. patrolling the school and helping out in all areas.
If you are interested in purchasing Watch D.O.G.S. apparel, we have included a catalog page and an order form. Dads
may purchase t-shirts, sweatshirts, polos and ball caps. You will also see a “My Hero” t-shirt for students to wear on their

Catholic Family Domestic Church
Blessed are the poor in spirit – this beatitude helps us with the deadly sin of pride. St. Augustine tells us that we belong to
one of two “cities”: the City of God, which consists of “all who love God to the despising of self,” or the City of the World,
who “love self to the despising of God.” The world glorifies pride while God glorifies humility. We counter the sin of pride
by being poor in spirit, by being humble. Jesus was very rich – because He is God – but He became poor when He took
on human flesh and dwelt among us. This is our example of how to be humble – giving up everything for God. Mary also
shows us how by saying, “Behold, I am the handmaid of the Lord.” Pride not only keeps us from God, but it also keeps us
from helping our neighbor. Being poor in spirit, or humble, is not a sign of weakness as the world would have us
believe. Detachment from the world and attachment to God brings the greatest riches and the greatest power. There is
power in emptiness. God cannot fill us with His grace if we are already full of the things of this world. We must first be
empty; be humble so that we can be filled with God’s will and not our own prideful choices.
