students separately with the main responsibility to monitor academic performance and to encourage students in
every way.

History
Edwardes College Peshawar was
founded in 1900.It was named after Sir
Herbert Edwardes KCB GCS
Commissioner of Peshawar in the
middle of Nineteenth century. Initially
granted funds by the Church Mission
Society London, the college started its
educational services in the province.
The college was affiliated with the
University of the Punjab for
intermediate, degree and MA History
classes. In the late 50s the college got
affiliated to the University of Peshawar
for its various courses. In the 70s, when
the nationalisation policy was
implemented in the country, most of
the private colleges/institutions of the
country were nationalised. However,
due to the efforts of its teachers,
principal Dr. Phil Edmonds with the
support of the then Governor Arbab
Sikandar Khan Khalil and Chief Minister
Maulana Mufti Mehmood, the college
was saved from nationalization. The
then provincial government decided to
form a Board of Governors for this
prestigious college. Since then the
college has been providing excellent
educational services to the students of
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa irrespective of
their cast, creed, and language. All the
administrative powers of the college are
vested in the Board of Governors with
the Governor of the Province as
Chairman and Minister for Education,
the Bishop of Peshawar Doicese as vice
chair, senior government officers which
include Secretary Higher Education
Department and old students and staff
representative as its members.
The college has the honour of being
visited thrice by Quaid-e-Azam,
Muhammad Ali Jinnah. During the
same period, distinguished visitor to the
college include Mahatma Ghandi and
Khawaja Nazimuddin.

Location
The College is currently situated in one
of the most beautiful and peaceful
parts of Peshawar Cantonment
sandwiched between Mall Road on
South and Fort Road on North side, a
few minutes' walk from the Cantt
Railway Station and Peshawar Museum.
We draw students from all parts of the
city and from all over the Khyber
Pakhtunkhwa and beyond. We have
well designed and spacious buildings,
well-lit lecture rooms, two splendid halls
with recent addition of newly
constructed canterbury hall (centrally
air-conditioned). A fine library and the
Science Block that includes lecture
rooms, seminar room and well
equipped laboratories. A new addition
is the newly constructed building for
Computer Science where the
departments of A – Levels, HND and
Professional Studies are placed.

Edwardes College Hostel has always
been an important part of the college's
history. Its impressive location,
conducive educational environment
and fascinating college traditions
normally provide unique and
unforgettable experience of hostel life.
There are three hostel buildings for
Intermediate and Degree students.
Each hostel has its own common room.
The magnificent old Hostel's building
surrounds the famous "Shalimar Quad".
The old hostel buildings were renovated
during 1987 to 1995. Hostel
accommodation is in great demand and
admissions are limited. Students who
have the privilege of hostel
accommodation are expected to be
regular, very serious in their studies and
disciplined in their hostel conduct.
There are many excellent hostel social
functions and trips.

Admission
INTERMEDIATE
Admissions to the Intermediate Classes
are on the basis of SSC academic
record. However, character, past school
performance and motivation are also
considered. In addition to that, each
candidate is interviewed. All students
are required to sign an undertaking to
fulfil college requirements both in
conduct and study. There are no casual
or part time students.
Application for admission to the First
Year Intermediate classes begins on the
Seventh day after the announcement of
the S.S.C result by BISE Peshawar and
that continues upto the notified date.
COURSES
As per BISE Peshawar rules, English,
Urdu, Islamic Education (in 1st year) and
Pakistan Studies (in 2nd year) are
compulsory for all Intermediate
students.
Besides these compulsory subjects,
students are required to take up three

Degree Courses
B.A and B.Sc. students must also apply
after declaration of H.S.S.C results. It is
important to note that Edwardians will
not be automatically considered to be
admitted to the 3rd year. However, they
are privileged to carry on their further
education at Edwardes.
The Admission Committee considers
the previous record and general attitude
of a student as of equal significance to
his/her academic attainments. Previous
attendance and monthly test records
are also taken into account. No student
is admitted who attended less than 75%
of his classes in the second year.

The College reserves the right to apply
its own admission criteria as an
independent and autonomous
institution. The decision of the Principal
is final and cannot be challenged in the
Courts. No change of subject will
normally be allowed. Therefore it is
extremely important to choose the
combination carefully.
Fresh students, Edwardians and
outsiders, who have passed H.S.S.C.
(F.A. and F.Sc.) first time in the current
year, take precedence over those
previous students who have passed or
improved their marks at a second
attempt. Only A, B, C grade passes in
H.S.S.C. (F.A. and F.Sc.) will be admitted
to the 3rd year courses.
D grade passers are not admissible at
Edwardes.

student of B.A and B.Sc has to study the

Applicants for Admission to the BCS
programme must satisfy the following
requirements.
(a) Have passed intermediate (F.A/F.Sc)
examination in Science group with
Mathematics and
Physics/Computer Studies, from
any Board of Intermediate &
Secondary Education of Pakistan or
equivalent qualifications as
recognized by the University of
Peshawar.
(b) Have obtained 60% aggregate
marks in the relevant examination.
(c) Have produced original transcripts
and certificates of HSSC and SSC
examinations or equivalents unless
waiting for results to be
announced.
(d) Have demonstrated required
performance in the interview
before the Admission Committee.
The purpose of the interview is to
assess the candidate's aptitude and
attitude towards the programme.
(e) Submitted the prescribed form,
duly completed, on or before the
closing date along with
testimonials and original character
certificates from the college last
attended.
(f) Candidates granted admission will
be notified on college notice board
and website.
A-LEVELS
A level Courses are co-educational.
Applications are accepted following "O"
level or "I.G.C.S.E" results. Applicants will
be interviewed prior to admission.
Students who qualify the merit for
admission in F.A/F.Sc, may be
considered for A Levels admission,
according to A- Level admission
rules/policy.
BTEC (HND) COURSES
Edwardes College has an approved
center for the Business & Technology
Education Council (BTEC) qualification.
Two-years course leading to the Higher

National Diploma (HND) of Edexcel
(UK) is currently available in Business
and Computer Studies. This is an
internationally recognized qualification,
approved by both Academic and
Professional Bodies. Once HND has
been completed successfully, students
are then become eligible to get direct
admissions in BBA (Hons) in various top
universities of U.K. and Australia.
Higher National Diploma (HND) is also
recognized by the Higher Education
Commission (HEC) Pakistan as
equivalent to Bachelor's Degree
(BA/BSc). After completing HND in
Business and Computing fields,
students can continue their studies in
higher disciplines i.e. Master's in
Business Administration (MBA), and
Computer Science (MCS/M.Sc) in
Pakistan.

Applicants who have achieved at least
50% marks in FA, FSc or A-Levels are
eligible to apply and will be interviewed
prior to admission.
Edwardes College is the first academic
institution, which is offering one year
Postgraduate Diploma in Strategic
Management and Leadership (DSML) in
affiliation with Edexcel (UK).
For admission in MBA, candidates are
required to have at least 45% marks in
Bachelor's degree.
ENGLISH IMMERSION
PROGRAM
A special English language teaching
program is arranged for students
admitted to the college in which they
spend about 12 days, at the beginning
of the session, in intensive classes to
improve their English speaking and
writing skills. It is a compulsory program
during which students are given
opportunity to speak in English on
campus. This program was introduced
in 2012 by Mr. Alwin Edwin (HOD
English) and yielded remarkable results.
Students are charged a reasonable fee
for this program to cover costs. Dates
for this session's English Immersion
Program will be announced at the time
of admission.

Activities
TOURS
National and international tours are
arranged by the college on regular
bases both for students and faculty. In
the past students and faculty have been
to India, Iran, Turkey, Syria, U.K, China,
Thailand and Malaysia. Internatiol tours
are not sponsored by the College and
therefore the expenses are borne by
faculty and students. However the
college strongly recommends the visa
applications.
GERMAN LANGUAGE CLASSES
Edwardes College in collaboration with
the German Embassy Islamabad and
the Goethe Institute Karachi started
German language classes in November
2009 for its students and staff under the
worldwide German language program
PASCH-partners for future. Every year
students from German language class
of Edwardes College participate in the
annual summer camp of PASCH school
held in some historical and picturesque
town of Germany. Students have shown
great interest in this programme and
the classes are being conducted on
regular basis. Professor Zahoor Khan
has taken the responsibility to run the
programme.
SPORTS AND STUDENTS
ACTIVITIES
The College lays strong emphasis on
sports, curricular and co-curricular
activities. It recognizes the fact that
education, in its broader perspective,
should apply to the whole person, and
should not be limited to intellectual
training alone. To this end, the
institution endeavors to provide ample
opportunities to students in the form of
sports, athletics and various societies
and clubs.

SOCIAL WORK PROGRAMME
Social and community works for the
less privileged have always been
among special features of the college.
Since long the college conducts Social
Work Programme for the degree
students. It is important to note that as
per rules of the University of Peshawar,
a fifteen days compulsory social and
community work is to be performed by
every regular student of B.A / B.Sc.
Since1980 Prof. Noor Muhammad (the
Acting Principal & HOD Statistics
Department) has been a constant
source of motivation for the degree
students in this important project. He

has been supervising this programme
effectively and efficiently along with a
team of devoted teaching faculty
members. The Social Work Programme
has mostly been carried out in the
remote hilly and under developed
areas. It includes repairs of broken
roads and tracks, arrangements of free
medical camps, distribution of
medicines among local poor and needy
patients, teaching in the local schools
and most importantly plantation of
trees with the collaboration of the
Forest Department of Government of
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. We appreciate
the help which the forest department
extends to us.
DUKE OF EDINBURGH'S AWARD
PAKISTAN
This programme founded in the UK in
1956 was extended to Pakistan in 1987.
Bronze, Silver and Gold Medals are
awarded to youth from 14-25 years who
give voluntary service in the areas of
Community Service, or who reach high
levels in physical and adventure skills.
To date six Edwardians have completed
Bronze standard and are now enrolled
for Silver and Gold awards. In the
Province as a whole 165 entrants are
enrolled. Professor Attaullah Jan has
been running the programme
successfully.
The female students perform their
social work with in Peshawar. Their
works mainly includes; cleaning of the
college campus and its surrounding
areas, white washing, painting,
plantation on the campus.

Student Conduct & Discipline
Edwardes College prides itself on its
standards of discipline, and every
student is expected at all times to
maintain the traditions of the College.
The College Proctorial Board enforces
discipline both in the college and its
surroundings wherever students are
present.
COLLEGE UNIFORM
All students are required to wear the
college uniform during college timings
and in all college functions. Failure to
wear the uniform or defacing any part
of it incurs a fine. All functions in the
college must be attended by the
students in proper college uniform.
DRESS CODE
Boys
Men students are required to wear grey
trousers of approved shade, white fullsleeved shirt with college tie, black
oxford shoes and grey socks.

Girls.
The uniform for women students is
green kameez of approved shade,
white shalwar, white duppata, plain
white scarf (optional), white socks,
black shoes (no open shoes and no
high heels). Moreover, women are not
allowed to wear jewellery, make up and
fancy hair clips.
Green blazers are compulsory for both
men and women students during
winter season while green sweaters are
optional. Haircuts should be modest

Every student (male/female) must be in
possession of a college identity card
during college timings.

Political Activity
An affidavit on stamp paper signed by
notary public regarding not to be
indulged in political activities is required
to be submitted by the students who
get admission in the College. College
property and private property in the
vicinity of the campus should not be
disfigured with slogans, mottoes and
the likewise.
As per an affidavit submitted any type
of Political activity, including the
wearing of political badges, is banned
on the college campus, including all
academic, administrative and residential
areas of the college. Students should
not create any political disturbance in
the college.
Use of Mobile Phone
Use and display of mobile phones and
any other electronic communication
gadgets are strictly prohibited and liable
to be confiscated. Students are not
allowed to bring mobile phones on the
campus. In case of emergency,
parents/guardians may inform the
college administration/tutor/year head
offices and the message will be

conveyed to the student. Any student
found using mobile phone on the
campus will be fined and the mobile
phone will be confiscated by college
administration.
Photography
Taking pictures on the campus is strictly
prohibited and student committing the
offence is liable to be expelled.
Car Parking
The college does not encourage
students to bring their own cars. We
can neither provide parking facility nor
can accept any responsibility in case of
damage or theft.
Guests in College
During college timings guests entrance
and entertainment in the College
Canteen in not allowed.
Gender Harassment
Gender harassment of any kind is not
tolerated. This includes teasing, making
comments about appearance, initiating
unwanted communication, and
initiating unwanted physical contact
with members of the opposite gender.
It applies to both in personal
interactions and to telephonic, email,
text and video communications. This
rule applies to interaction between
students and between students and
faculty members both. Persons found
to have harassed others are liable to be
expelled.
Conduct

No student is allowed to smoke on
and around the college campus.

All kinds of badges i.e of Proctor,
Prefect, and Sports and of any
Society/Club must be of approved
design.

Consumption of alcoholic drinks
and other intoxicating drugs are
strictly prohibited.

Collecting any money or receiving
funds or commercial assistance
without the written permission of
the principal is strictly prohibited.


Students
A student is not allowed to appear in
the board / university annual

in the college monthly tests and

For BCS
1. He/ she must attend at least 80%

2. He/ she must not obtain less than
33% aggregate marks in College
monthly tests and other College
examinations. (For term system)
For HND
1. He/ she must attend at least 80%
of the lectures delivered in each
subject.
2. Only two 'F' are allowed throughout
HND course. In case of 03 fail units,
student will be put on probation for
one semester. In case of 04 fail
units, student will be dropped out
of the HND program.
LEAVE
1.
A student who applies for leave
must submit the proper Leave
Application Form available in the
respective year head offices duly
signed by the student,

parent/guardian and tutor.
Back dated leave applications will
not be entertained. In any case it is
the responsibility of the student,
parent/guardian to submit the
leave application in time in the
respective Year Head Offices.
Students must remember that any
type of leave is sanctioned only to
avoid absentee fine. It is not
counted towardes 75% compulsory
attendence that is required by BISE
and university examinations.
