The course mainly deals with the English language. From this standpoint, the language of instruction is English. The course is an introduction to linguistics and deals with the fields and sub-fields of linguistics, like Morphology, Syntax, Phonetics and Phonology, and Forensic Linguistics, Applied Linguistics and the like. The materials will be offered in one copy by the instructor. All the students are expected to make copies of them. Other recommended readings will be offered by the instructor to read from Khazar University library. During the course, the students are expected to participate actively and to make group presentations on the issues are discussed. Course Objectives 1. To introduce and build students’ knowledge on linguistics, what is linguistics and its role for our society; 2. To build up their self-esteem in classroom environment and make them update their critical views concerning the issues in Linguistics; 3. Introduce students the branches of Linguistics; 4. Encourage students for the class participation and discussion on language acquisition issues; motivate them in building up their competence in English Linguistics. Learning Outcome This course will greatly improve students’ ability to communicate in English on academic/linguistics topics and will enlarge their knowledge of Linguistics as science.
