We must make sure that people who have the grades, the desire and the will, but not the money, can still get the best education possible.” ~President Barack Obama 1 Metro Washington DC Chapter Scholarship Program Alabama State University National Alumni Association The Metro Washington DC Chapter (Metro DC Chapter) Scholarship Program has been established to promote higher learning and academic excellence, and to assist freshmen students pursue their educational goals at Alabama State University in Montgomery, Alabama. MINIMUM ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA Applicants must meet the following criteria to be considered for the scholarship award: Reside in the District of Columbia, Virginia, or Maryland Graduating high school senior with acceptance to Alabama State University Cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 2.5 or better Must be a United States citizen or hold a permanent resident visa card SELECTION CRITERIA Applicants must excel academically, exhibit exceptional leadership potential, participate in community service activities and demonstrate financial need. APPLICATION PROCEDURE & DEADLINE A complete application package includes: Applicant and parent information (page 3), essay responses (page 4), declaration of applicant (page 5), final 2012 transcript and college acceptance letter. Incomplete, e-mailed or faxed application packages will not be considered. AWARD COMPONENTS Two (2) $1000.00 or four (4) $500.00 scholarships and individual certificates will be awarded to students from the Metro Washington DC area. Scholarships are not renewable and are contingent upon the availability of funds. AWARD DISTRIBUTION Selected scholarship recipients will be notified by e-mail or telephone. Scholarship awards will be distributed during the month of August, and funds will be submitted to the Alabama State University Foundation.
