Qualified candidates will be considered for placement on the established casual list to work on an as-needed basis. CASUAL TEACHING ASSISTANTS – ABORIGINAL Successful applicants will have a minimum of Grade XII supplemented by graduation from a one-year teachers’ assistant program (SETA preferred) from a recognized community or technical college. In addition, the incumbent must have the following: Over one year of experience in working with Aboriginal people in an educational setting Considerable working knowledge of the Aboriginal culture, heritage and value systems (preferably the Stó:lδ Nation) Proven ability to establish and maintain effective work relationships with all internal and external contacts; a helpful and pleasant manner in dealing with others Proven ability to express ideas effectively, both orally and in writing Proven ability to work in a cooperative team situation, offering assistance to co-workers as required Ability to provide guidance and direction to others; proven ability to explain information and instructions to others Working knowledge of the district child abuse protocol and reporting procedures Sufficient physical capabilities, stamina and coordination to perform the duties of the position to the required standard The current casual salary rate is $19.54 per hour with an additional 8% of straight time pay in lieu of statutory and non-statutory benefits. CASUAL YOUTH CARE WORKERS – ABORIGINAL Successful applicants will have a minimum of Grade XII supplemented by graduation from a recognized post-secondary program (e.g., Social Services Diploma Program, Child Care Workers Program, or equivalent), plus training and experience in the areas of behaviour management, counseling, etc. In addition, the incumbent must have the following: Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal culture and 2 to 3 years’ experience in working with Aboriginal people in an educational setting Considerable working knowledge of the needs of “at-risk” students and current intervention/counseling strategies Considerable working knowledge of the Aboriginal cultures and heritages and value systems (preferably the Stó:lδ Nation) Working knowledge of community service/support agencies Working knowledge of the district child abuse protocol and reporting procedures Ability to operate a micro-computer and spreadsheet/database packages Proven ability to establish and maintain effective work relationships with all internal and external contacts; a helpful and pleasant manner when dealing with others Proven ability to express ideas effectively, both orally and in writing Proven ability to work in a cooperative team situation, offering assistance to co-workers as required Ability to provide guidance and direction to others; proven ability to explain information and instructions to others Sufficient physical capabilities, stamina and coordination to perform the duties of the position to the required standard; no mental or physical limitations and good health The current casual salary rate is $19.54 per hour with an additional 8% of straight time pay in lieu of statutory and non-statutory benefits. Upon obtaining regular status, pay increases to $22.68 per hour with benefits.
