The Beginning…
The A/B classes are doing well and are not pressed as the 4X4; I am grateful for the calm to complete well their work and grades should reveal their efforts and evolve a comparative base for my other class though they are working at differing ability levels. My expectations are the same: work to the max…spelling quiz for A day students.
Today’s work in the 4 X 4 will consist of continuing
Native American myths,
“Coyote and the Buffalo” and decoding each paragraph to assist with reading comprehension.
There will also be a vocab review for both classes. Language skills will review capitalization in prep for Wednes. Quiz.

Vocabulary Power
Plus for the New SAT will have its testing on unit #3 on today. Same expectation to do well will be emphasized. However, even as I have spent last week with exercises and assurance to study, students must take it to heart if they are going to be prepared. As with the previvous vocabulary, (below)

Flashcards and written work will be due on
Friday.
Prep for the next unit, lesson 4, will have begun on yesterday in order to complete vocab flash cards by Friday. Students will also be reminded of spelling quiz
#3 on Friday, as well.
If there are students who have not completed the preassessment, they may do so, especially, given the A/B schedule. The B day students will have their vocabulary assessment today and continue the background for next unit.
The literary discussion of the first Native American selection will be analyzed today so that students will glean the pattern of how they should approach the reading and decoding of information.
The A/B will either vocab test and prepare for their literary intro while the 4X4 will have their quiz on capitalization and continue with punctuation work.

Having just completed the great epic
BEOWULF, these students will take their application of the characteristics of this literary genre and apply their knowledge as they read an epic of lesser proportions: THE
ILIAD and prepare to present this work on
Thursday…
Vocabulary Power Plus testing for unit #3 for the
Adv. English 12 class.
The students will be expected to take on very challenging work in order to prepare for whatever testing and as seniors with college apps on their radar.
Upon completion of this testing, they will complete the background to unit 4.
The student will work on the extended work on the Anglo-
Saxon selections of Bede and
“History of the English Church and People” and three Anglo-
Saxon poems: “The Wanderer,”
“The Wife’s Lament,” and “The
Seafarer”; all of these selections will evolve the strength of early literature and the establishment based on pagan and Christian principles.

Assessment of student performance on writing samples will be highly considered as I prepare for the instructional focus in all classes. Pre-assessment testing will also occur and be examined closely.

Will ensure that students are on track for vocabulary production and prep of flash cards for tomorrow.
Will also remind them of their fourth spelling quiz which will be given on tomorrow.
The assignment of the final Native
American selection: “The Way to
Rainy Mountain” where students should be readily adjusting to the concept of the autobiography.
We will continue with the language skills in the language text and study information on the persuasive narrative as we prepare to begin writing samples, utilizing skills from the review and readying for the SOL..
On tap for today is spelling quiz #4. I shall also check vocabulary flash cards for lesson 4.
Working to continue the final selection on Native
American Literature in preparation for a test on these selections.
We shall also begin thinking about miniresearch/projects on the
Native American culture where students will have a sense of enjoyment of studying such a culture.

The B day students will present their introductory projects for the early
American literary period and ensure that all vocabulary gets done for next week’s testing. They will also read and decode the first Native American selection as delineated previously.
They will have their spelling quiz on list 3 today, as well.
The presentation of the ILIAD excerpt by four different groups through interpretation and dramatic interludes.
They should make comparison to
BEOWULF and delineate the qualities of the epic as a lasting literary form.
This should serve them well as they prepare for the test on BEOWULF on tomorrow..
More skills work in their language text with an emphasis on persuasive writing skills.
Vocabulary background for lesson 4 will be checked; spelling quiz #4 will be given.
Testing on BEOWULF will end the week…
