ADDICTION PROJECT OBJECTIVES Students (team of 2) will: give a report based on the Drugs & Alcohol section of www.kidshealth.org; and create a PowerPoint presentation that warns of the dangers of drugs and alcohol PROCEDURE 1. Prepare a team report and a PowerPoint presentation on drugs and alcohol based on material found on the Web site www.kidshealth.org. The reports should include background information and focus on addiction and overcoming an addiction. In your report also try to answer the following questions: Alcohol has been and remains a serious problem for teens, as have drugs. Discuss the reasons you think this is so. Is it true that once a person is an addict, he or she is an addict forever? Support your opinion with facts. Have you ever said that you were addicted to something such as candy, television, video games? Discuss the implications of this statement with regard to substance addiction. Is there a difference between drug abuse and drug addiction? 2. Visit the site www.kidshealth.org, click on "Enter Teens," and then select the section on Drugs & Alcohol. 3. Note the four categories on the Drugs & Alcohol page: Tobacco, Alcohol, Drugs, and Getting Help. 4. Review the articles "Smoking: Cutting through the Hype"; "Alcohol"; "What Teens Should Know about Drugs"; and "Dealing with Addiction." 5. Base your reports on these articles. 6. When you have finished preparing your reports, create a PowerPoint presentation with a message related to your assigned subject.
