Assistant Vice President of Budget Planning and Analysis
Ohio University seeks nominations and applications for the position of Assistant Vice President of
Budget Planning and Analysis. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to make major
contributions to the continued success of an exceptional public university.
Established in 1804, the University is the oldest public institution of higher learning in the state of
Ohio and the first in the Northwest Territory. Located in the scenic Appalachian foothills, its classic
residential campus in Athens, Ohio, is one of the most attractive in the nation.
A comprehensive, national university, Ohio University offers both distinctive, high quality

Zanesville. Collectively, the full-time, part-time, and continuing education enrollment for Ohio
University is 30,000. The University’s annual budget is $700 million, with approximately 30 percent
of its revenues provided by the State of Ohio. The University employs more than 4,800 employees,
including 1,100 full time faculty and 750 part time faculty.
The Budget Planning and Analysis office is responsible for coordinating the annual University
budget process, collecting and analyzing data to support the annual budget presented for Board
approval, and managing the University budget throughout the fiscal year. This position oversees the
Budget Planning and Analysis office and staff, coordinates the University budget planning and
development process, provides staff support to the Budget Planning Council, and serves as a liaison
to the Provost’s office regarding University budget and planning.
Reporting to the Associate Vice President for Finance, the successful candidate will manage the
University’s budget planning process, develop financial models which analyze and allocate
budgetary resources, and evolve the budgeting methodology to support the strategic goals and
priorities of the University. Specific responsibilities include:





Coordinating the annual University budget planning and approval process –
o BPC coordination,
o Development of budget assumptions, compilation of data, and budget modeling
o Preparation of presentations for leadership and board approval;
developing and monitoring multi-year budget planning model and tools;
overseeing the coordination of planning unit budget development, implementation, and
management through the on-going monitoring of budgets throughout the year;
serving as a primary liaison with campus budget unit managers; actively engage them in their
budget planning, training and development;
overseeing and direct the development and maintenance of systems and tools to analyze
financial data and performance; direct budget analysis to identify and predict trends and
advise leadership;

coordinating efforts to establish and improve financial controls in collaboration with the
Office of Finance; and
serving as the Budget Planning and Analysis office representative on University committees,
as assigned.
Qualifications: Candidates must have a minimum of eight years of financial management experience
in accounting, financial reporting or budgeting, or a combination of experience coupled with an
advanced degree or certification. Experience in higher education accounting, financial reporting and
budgeting is preferred due to the university budget being approximately $700 million and a highly
complex structure. Specific skills include:






strong leadership and communication skills to present findings and communicate complex
information credibly;
strong analytical and problem solving abilities;
the ability to work independently, manage details, organize and prioritize;
strong accounting and budgeting skills;
the ability to work collaboratively with all campus areas - co-workers, planning unit budget
staff and management, Finance and Provost offices, and University leaders; and
relevant technology skills – knowledge of enterprise business systems and their capabilities,
software solutions, spreadsheet and database functionality.
