Ms. Leonard welcomed everyone and thanked them for their support, time and Introductions: Everyone gave their name, title and place of employment. Minutes: The minutes from the April 16, 2008 meeting were read. Copies of the minutes are being sent with the meeting notices. Motion made and seconded to accept as presented. Old Business: Medical Record Transcribing Program: In December 2008 the program received AHDI certification. HPI-SUM program to iWhiteboard platform with speech recognition editing – use of the voice files will keep with industry standards and help reduce costs to the students. Sheridan Technical is now offering the RMT review to students via Elluminate. Fourteen (14) students are planning to take the RMT test in June 2009. AHDI – Book of Style has been incorporated into Benchmark program, this again will help reduce costs to the students. Formatted. 6.13.2007 ~ lb The program is anticipating registration from spouses of active military personnel within the next several months. Industry members acknowledged and agreed with the program updates, stating these were keeping with industry standards. Medical Coder Biller Program: Instructors are meeting weekly to complete the AHIMA Certification packet. The project is estimated by AHIMA to take about 12 months. In order to meet the AHIMA Certification requirements, the members present are requesting the following program updates: 1. Change from AHIMA Coding Workbook to 230 Live Alfred State Records. CD will be given to students free of charge. 2. Implementation of AHIMA Virtual Lab beginning in Term 1 with Mckesson Records this is a records review / analysis program. Term 2 Athens Master Patient Index and Term 3 -4 Quantim Application and EHR application, this will be run concurrently with 3M Coding & Reimbursement System. 3. Students are completing Graduate Surveys. Compilation of results to date will be presented next meeting. 4. Letter of support related to the program and hiring of student completers are being obtained. These are on file in the e-learning department. 5. In order to complete all State of Florida Curriculum and AHIMA Certification requirements the instructors are requesting a 10% increase in the program hours from 1000 to 1100 hours. The program was originally 1080 hours. It was reduced to 1000 then the State of Florida added the 90 hours of required CORE. The cost to the student would be minimal as we have over the past two years, with Advisory Committee approval, reduced student textbook costs by changing coding manuals, billing textbook and now the recommended change from Coding Workbook to a free CD with 230 live records. In addition, the added 100 hours would allow time to work more on coding speed and accuracy. The industry members thanked the instructors for the information. There was agreement on the change from the coding workbook to the live reports CD. The members stated their understanding and acknowledged the need for the additional 100 hours. Formatted. 6.13.2007 ~ lb Questions, Comments and Discussions from floor Ms. Manshack from PriCare advised the members present her company is in the process of moving to an electronic medical record. They anticipate completing this project at all 26 centers in Miami-Dade, Broward and Palm Beach counties within one year. Catherine commented on how well our programs are keeping up with industry standards as related to the new technology.
