INTERNATIONAL MASTER BIKE BUILDERS ASSOCIATION Welland, Canada Hot weather and hot bikes made CBBO 5 a “ pretty freaking awesome” event. This is the fourth consecutive year that IMBBA has been fortunate enough to be a part of the Canadian Biker Build-off. This year’s CBBO, was once again held at the Welland Fair grounds. ”. IMBBA sanctioned this event and did the Judging for both the “Pro-Builders” competition and the annual ride-in show on Sunday. This year’s CBBO pro-builder class included several new comers including Stephen LeBreton of Speed Trix, with their unique glass piped, “Carpe Diem”; Alain Panneton of Air designs with the crowd popular “Maple Leaf”; Ponch Brunet from Niagara Choppers with his vibrant burgundy bagger and total new comer to CBBO Pro-builder scene John Balick with his “Johnny B” chopper that turned quite a few heads. Returning favorites included Fred Vallencourt “Rat Shop” with his 3-wheeled “Spawn”, and last year’s winner, Alain Tourigny, Touring Creations with their latest entry “Nasty Boy”. As in prior years the CBBO Pro-builders are judged and scored by the IMBBA judges. These scores are combined with the “People’s Choice” ballots to determine the show winners. Go to Page 2 for Pro-builders results and pictures. Sunday’s ride-in show brought in much eye candy. Entries included a monster trike made from a Toyota engine, that stood about 10 feet high, to a mini-chopper with the youngest ever entry in the CBBO ride in show. Craftsmanship and creativity once again made this a really close competition. Each year the IMBBA judges carefully score each of the bike entries into the ride-in show and determine winners in each of the CBBO categories. Go to Page 3 for ride-in show results and pictures. BaggerNation has been nominated and elected by the IMBBA Board of Directors to be indoctrinated into the IMBBA Hall of Fame. This distinction has only been awarded to 17 Master Bike Builders in the entire world, said Jeff Starke, IMBBA president. The requirements to be nominated are extensive. To become a nominee, one must give back to the industry. One must make sacrifices to help and mentor others in the industry and help them to succeed by various channels, such as, charities, education and sponsorship of youth, encouraging them to learn the trades of motorcycle building are just a few examples. Paul’s, bike builder prowess and expertise demonstrate not only the art but the actual skills and trade of bike building. IMBBA plans to present Paul with his Master Bike Builder award at the next major bike event of his choice, in front of press and his peers. This is in keeping with IMBBA’s mission to recognize builders globally. Following his accepting of the award certifying Paul as a Master Bike Builder, IMBBA will proceed with his indoctrination into the IMBBA Hall of Fame. Paul has raised and donated millions of dollars for many causes and IMBBA will be proud to award him this distinct honor. Congratulations Paul! Lightning Rod's diversified builds always get attention from all walks of life and the two wheel different make loyalties and demographics are put aside. It is cool to see that there is no line between the old school, Harley and sport bike appreciation our bikes receive. There is a “high” from seeing several burley old-school bikers on their knees looking at the mechanics and fabrication while RUB Harley owners stand back and stare and at the same time speed freak café bike riders are looking on, pointing and figuring things out with full helmets in hand - all surrounding one of our bikes in admiration at the same time. That's the shit right there. That’s because the nearly 24-year EMS employee responsible for overseeing all of EMS’s facilities in Atlanta is a single parent himself. While raising his son from the age of eight (he is now 25-year-old musician and film enthusiast living in Texas), Arnold has made time to participate in many area charity rides. Over the past 13 years, he generated more than $80,000 for the March of Dimes Bikers for Babies, and has also served on the Atlanta chapter board. About three years ago, he started riding in the American Diabetes Association’s Ride to Live event. This past May, he received that organization’s top fundraising award for bringing in almost $5,000. What drives his passion for charity events on wheels? “It’s the camaraderie. The bikers are a great group of folks and when we can get together and help the community, it’s just that much better,” Arnold says. Of his decision to focus on a new organization after so many years with the March of Dimes, Arnold explained that he had “made my mark with the March of Dimes, so I felt it was time for a change. Diabetes is a great cause, too.” Making an impact on the prevention of diabetes is personal to him -- both a nephew and a fellow rider have the disease. In 2006, diabetes-related complications were the state's seventh leading cause of death killing more than 1,600 Georgians. In 2007, approximately 700,000 adults 18 and older (or 10 percent of Georgia's adult population) had been diagnosed. Arnold is taking a well-deserved break from charity riding this fall to build a custom Harley from the ground up. But, come spring he will be back raising funds, and being a community role model from the back of his bike. “For me, this is a way to give something back. -- as payback for the good fortune I have had,” he says.
