Good afternoon!
This web site will allow you to keep up with what’s going on at
Palmetto. Each week Palmetto Middle School is going to post a
weekly update on this page. This site will keep you informed of
upcoming events, trips, dates, projects, and holidays. Please ask
around to see if other parents are checking this web page for the
updates.
Upcoming Events and Dates:

Veteran’s Day Program on November 11th at 9:30 in the
middle school gym. We are asking for the students to bring in
pictures of relatives that are veterans, both past and present. This
includes faculty members who are veterans or have relatives that have
served. It may be a picture they have taken with them or an individual
picture of the veteran. They will take their picture to Coach Scroggs
during homeroom or during lunch, he will scan the picture and hand it
right back to them. These pictures will be used in a powerpoint. They
will need to include their name, the veteran in the picture, and their
branch of service.
We appreciate your help with this!

Beta Club Update: Please email Ms. Phillips
phillipsr@anderson1.k12.sc.us if you have any questions.
There will be a Beta Club meeting Nov 8 from 3:15-4:00 in the
cafeteria.
Update from Ms. Tuttle: Please email Ms.Tuttle
tuttlec@anderson1.k12.sc.us if you have any questions.
Ms. Tuttle’s class is collecting care items for Hospice.
We need Kleenex, hand sanitizer, crossword puzzles, and
hard candy. We send care packages twice a month to
families. Thank you for your support!
PTSO Update:
Palmetto Middle School PTSO, in collaboration with the Guidance
Staff, has begun a year round in school food pantry. PTSO has
donated over 800 cans of food which we have procured for FREE
thanks to the Feeding America Program. They sent us 800 coupons
for Chef Boyardee & Hunts products. PTSO took those coupons and
purchased food for our pantry. On top of that, we removed the
barcodes from those products to mail back to Feeding America
because 1 UPC = 1 meal for a starving child here in America and for
every UPC they receive from us they will reciprocate with a coupon.
That means we can continue collecting food for our pantry all year
long! So, please send in your UPC’s from these products to the PTSO
by December 15, 2011.
Participation Sponsors:
Banquet, Chef Boyardee, Healthy Choice, Hunt’s, Marie

Eighth Grade Update:
The 8th Grade Happenings:
Outsiders Day, November 4, 2011
The 8th grade teachers are celebrating the 50’s and 60’s era after reading
the novel The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton. The students and teachers will be
dressing in period clothing and “visiting” the past through presentations
pertaining to music, television/theater, pop culture of the day, NASA and
the Civil Rights Movement. Also, with the help from community members and
the PTSO, there will be an antique car show in the front of the school. The
day will end with a social that will involve serving the students ice cream
floats and providing a time for dance and music. It will be a fun day!
Historical Brattonsville Field Study, November 29th, December 1st and
2nd (each team goes on a different day)
The 8th grade students will be visiting this SC historical area dating back to
pre American Revolution. The students will be shown the buildings and be
given an idea about life on a plantation from the mid 18th century all the way
through the Civil War period. The teachers will offer integrated activities
to address several of SC standards across the curriculum.
The cost is $20.00 to pay for entrance and transportation. Please send in
the money and permission trip to the child’s homeroom teacher as soon as
possible.
Veterans’ Day visitor:
Captain Richard Scott of the United States Navy (Retired) will honor the 8th
grade with his presence and presentation on November 10th as a lead-in to
our Veterans’ Day program on November 11th. Captain Scott served during
the Vietnam War as a helicopter pilot. He will be presenting information on
patriotism and his service to the US military as a representative from the
Joe Foss Institute (info@joefoss.com).
