ENG 2D –Poetry Assignment
Task: You are asked to choose one of the following poets and to create a portfolio about
him/her. Each student will have a different poet to research. If you wish to research a poet
who is not on the list feel free to ask me. Come see me to sign up for your poet.

The portfolio will contain:
 Title page
 A biography of the poet (up to one page)
 Five of his/her most popular poems. (No need to cite these poems)
 A one page artistic representation of one of the five poems and a proper
paragraph justifying your artistic representation. Your paragraph must have
support/evidence (point, proof, comment) from your chosen poem to justify
your artistic choices.
 A brief analysis of one poem (not chosen for the artistic representation). In
this analysis you will explain what the poem means to you. You will provide
evidence from the poem to support your reading. In your analysis you should
make specific reference to poetic devices and how they helped your
understanding of the poem. (1-2 paragraphs)
 With the remaining three poems identify three examples of poetic devices.
Explain what the poetic device is and give an example from one of the poems.
 One copy of a scholarly criticism of any poem written by the author. Include a
summary of the article. (The summary can be anywhere from 1 paragraph to 1
page)
 Works cited page of all sources used. (except for the five poems)
Other Requirements:
 All of your written material is to be double spaced, Times New Roman Font,
pt.12.
 All sources must be cited correctly using MLA.
