HOOPS FOR HEART (3-6) 1 Crazy option 3 verses 3 scooter basketball With 2 different color scooters and Small basketballs and mini nets RISKY BUSINESS MISS THE RISK FACTORS (1-6) Place Risk factors for Heart Disease on cones and let kids putt (with golf clubs) or dribble hockey pucks around the cones with hockey sticks JUMP FOR HEIGHT (1-6) Tie a stretch band on a low pull about 4 inches from the ground and about 10 feet away tie the other end of the stretch band about 24 inches high. Kids can jump back and forth (standing 2 foot jump) on 1 inch mats until they hit the rope S S SPRINGBOARD INTO FUN (k-6) Use equipment from your gymnastics unit, Kids have a great time just seeing how far They can jump! SHORT JUMP STATION (1-6) Place jump tricks onto the wall and when the kids get to this station they can remember the tricks you taught them in the unit before the Jump Rope for Heart Day. ANIMAL BROAD JUMP (k-6) Place a line near a wall to prevent kids from getting a running start. Kids jump both legs at a time to see which animal they can get to. Camillion-1, Spider-2, Bullfrog-3, Flea-4, Penguin-5, Jackrabbit-6, Kangaroo Rat-7, Polar Bear-8 FILL THE FOOD PYRAMID (3-6) A relay race with 2-3 teams, Each team has a bucket at the start line with pictures of food items. Each team must correctly fill the pyramid with the correct foods in the correct section and the right number of servings. JUMP SACK RACE (k-6) A simple sack race with cones to mark the start and the finish line JUMP TO IT: FINISH THE PUZZLE (2-6) A relay race where students jump rope or run over to a basket with puzzle pieces in it. Each student picks up one piece, once all the pieces are picked up the team races to put it together. BOUNCE INTO A HEALTHY LIFESTYLE (K-4) Have the little kids jump from one spot to another or just jump around in a designated space. The older kids can try to jump on the hippity-hop inside a long rope. JUMPING IN THE CASTLE (k-6) Get a jump castle from any party store and let kids jump in the castle as one of your stations…kids love it! IN MEMORY OR IN HONOR OF (k-6) As a station or before the event let kids write a name of a person they would like jump in honor or in memory of! TOSS TO THE HEART (k-2) Trace a person on a sheet of paper or use a poster with a person on it make a large heart on the person. Draw a line 6-8 feet away and have kids throw bean bags to hit the HEART on the drawn person. Once they hit the HEART they can pick up the bean bag and say “I love my Heart.” Let each kid throw 2-3 bags a piece a turn. DOUBLE UNDERS Stack 3 crash mats on top of each other in a corner of the gym (to help prevent movement) and 1 crash mat in front of the stacked mats. Let 1 child on the mat at one time, they can get a 3-4 step running start and try to see how many “double unders” they can do before landing on the low mat. (for k & 1 no ropes) HEALTH STATION (1-6) If you have any health information that you can share with the kids make it a fun station with models and lots to read and remember! It is a great way to learn more about keeping a HEALTHY HEART! MAKE SURE TO DECORATE Decorate the gym with hearts or anything Heart or Jump related so it feels more like an event then just another day in gym class! TENINKLING (1-6) Two polls that go wide for two counts then narrow for two counts & kids can jump narrow twice then side twice. JUMP ON A TRAMP (k-6) With or without a rope! JUMP ROPE HURDLES (k-6) Place them all at the same height and have kids jump the hurdles. Or place them high and low and have kids jump the low hurdles and limbo or crawl under the high hurdles. KNOCK OUT DRUGS & TABACCO Add bowling to the mix with a twist! This teacher had the kids knock the pins over and then make a pledge “I will never smoke.” OR ONE STEP FURTHER….. HUMAN BOWLING Set up bowling pins at the far edge of the low mat and tie a knot at the end of the climbing rope for kids to sit on. Kids swing out from the near side of the mat and kick their feet to knock over the pins. (1-6) POGO STICK (1-6) Why not jump on a pogo stick! STEP BENCH JUMP (k-6) Set up Step benches with 0-2 lifts underneath them. Kids can choose which height is best for them and jump from the floor to the top with 1 or 2 feet at a time. HELICOPTER SPIN THE ROPE (k-6) Whatever you call it, the kids just love it! SKIP-ITS If you’ve got them why not use them! (k-6) HULA HOOP IT UP Whether you place them on the ground or let the kids play with them-hula hoops are a ton of fun! SET UP A HEALTH STATION Show kids about nutrition with a hands on station about food and health. MR. BONES Copy the bones of a Skelton and place them in one area and have kids put them in the correct shape. How about a relay! (1-6) Use a poly spot material Mr. Bones or make one on your own. They will love it either way! RUNNING HEIGHT JUMP (k-6) Set up a pole on the back side of volleyball poles. Have kids try to jump over it, if they can’t make it the pole drops easily to the ground and doesn’t hurt anyone. Make sure to use a crash mat! SCOOTER JUMP ROPE (3-6) Have kids twirl a long rope and instead of kids jumping in one at a time, have them try to ride a scooter to the other side without the rope hitting them. It is a lot harder then it looks, but I bet they will have some fun. THE LIMBO (k-6) We all know how much fun doing the limbo is….if they are having fun and moving why not! CLIMBING ROPE JUMP ON FAT MATS (K-8) Tie a rope between 2 climbing ropes and have 2 people swing them slightly as 1 or more kids jump the rope. HOP SCOTCH WHY NOT? Jump or Hop it is all the same thing. HOW HIGH CAN YOU JUMP Touch the Hearts or put tape on the wall where you can reach, possibly put up butcher block paper and have kids stamp as high as they can. ROPING BANDS OR CHINESE JUMP ROPES Use the bands for jumping in & out and have kids make it more difficult by bringing the bands higher. ROPE SWING WITH TOSS Toss items into the buckets FISH FOR A HEALTHY ACTIVITY Make fish cut outs with Paper-Clips on them, tie a string to a stick with a magnet on it. When the students fish an activity will stick to the pole. LASSO A CONE!!! Tie a jump rope to a hula-hoop and try to bring in a cone! TUG-A-WAR PIN THE HEART ON THE SKELETON TIPS FOR SUCCESS: Make sure every child gets an envelope and knows what they are collection donations for! Congrats to this class almost every kid brought an envelope back on JRFH Day! Involve your team, JRFH can be an ART, MUSIC, COMPUTER and PE EVENT. Your team can be your greatest support and your biggest advocate! JUMP FOR HEART POSTER CONTEST TRACK YOUR SUCCESS Whether it is on a white board or on posters, let your kids know how they are doing.
