If anyone has any ideas for events let the eboard know. This semester we're looking for small
pick-up/casual/social events. "We're going to meet at this place on Thursday." "We're going to
the park to play some ball." We're looking for easy, no effort ideas to get together with each
other and the students just to hang out and catch up.
Alumni/Student Relations – Brother Krueger and Brother Ellmann
Looking for event ideas for joint activities with Delta Phi.
Professional
Social
Lori had a meeting with the Delta Phi president about the students' perspective of their
relationship with the alumni. When at events the students sit together and the alumni sit
together and there isn't much mixing. The students attend national events and they hear
that the alumni are a great source for networking and jobs. Lori explained that we aren't
recruiters and may not have the ability to extend job offers. If we hear of jobs in our
companies, please send an email to the reflectors to the student reflector (akpsimem@uwm.edu); even if it's only a link to the job information. By the same token the
students need to let us know via our mail list that they are looking for a job. We do have
a mismatch for helping with career opportunities since we're very accountant heavy and
the students have a mix of majors.
The students are feeling disconnected from us. They don’t know us and may be a bit shy.
We need to extend the hand of brotherhood and make the effort to get to know them.
Organization Positions – Brother Ellmann
Volunteers sought to fill open positions on organization chart. Positions can be created, if
needed. All ideas welcome. Please contact with e-board. If you don't want to hold an
official position in the organization but would like to plan a social event or sporting event
(e.g. take your pets to the dog park) we would love to have your help coordinating those
kinds of events.
The main thing we're seeing that's very successful with the Chicago chapter is that people
take on responsibilities for things they really enjoy. They're bringing things that are
important to them into the organization. We'd like to see that. Sean Walker organizing
the kickball game is an example.
Financial Report – Brother Krueger
Checking account balance is $810.96. While this is low for us keep in mind that the
professional speaker has already been pre-paid $500.00. The holiday party was paid.
Now that we are a chapter we have to pay national dues ($15 per year) for each member
that is not a life member.
We currently have 18 dues-paying members.
There is legislation proposed at the national convention to eliminate alumni dues.
Depending upon what is ratified we will discuss a modest increase in dues which hasn't
been done for the last 3 or 4 years to help raise funds for the chapter. Members have
indicated that they don't want to do fundraising (e.g. selling pizzas). So any fundraising
we do would be unconventional.
Dues are currently $40 per year for a single membership; $50 for a couple since our
chapter welcomes significant others as members.
Foundation Report
No report.
Membership – Brother Ellmann
Lori Ellmann is working on getting the names of this semester's graduates as well as
getting the info for those that have graduated.
Eric Krueger would like to update all of the alumni information. He plans to solicit
everyone's updated information via email.
General Business – Brother Ellmann
We're looking at changing the location of the Post Office box to make it more convenient
to access. The airport station is a possibility since it's open 24 hours. It's current location
at Juneau Station (Juneau Ave and Jackson St Downtown) is inconvenient since the box
is only accessible between 8am and 5pm Monday through Friday.
54th National Convention Legislation – Brother Brill
Todd Strehlow and Sal Strehlow went to National Convention in Washington, D.C. as
our delegates to the convention. Kenlee has asked Todd to get clarification on the
meaning of the proposed alumni legislation:
Bylaws – Brother Brill
Kenlee is in the process of reviewing our chapter bylaws for any necessary changes. The
proposals should be ready at the next meeting for presentation to make them available for
voting on at the October meeting.
2008 Success Institute – Brother Walker
The Chicago Success Institute will be at the Palmer House Hilton. Sean suggested we
may want to sponsor a student to attend and that we should attend ourselves. We could
coordinate with the Chicago Alumni to meet at the event. Maybe we could rent a
hospitality room.
Meeting adjourned at 7:45pm
