Dear Applicants interested in Diploma, Degree and Graduate Programs in Leadership: Our Mission: Our partner institutions, Humber Institute of Technology and Advanced Learning (ITAL), the University of Guelph-Humber and the University of Guelph, are prepared to assist justice professionals attain their goal of higher education by offering a high affinity Diploma in Police Foundations Leadership, a Baccalaureate degree from the University of Guelph-Humber and an MA in Leadership from the University of Guelph. The Humber Police Foundations Leadership Diploma program and accreditation process is further explained in the following paragraphs. Prior Learning Credits: Humber ITAL in partnership with the University of Guelph-Humber can assist candidates attain a high affinity diploma that can ladder into a BAA university degree in Justice Studies through an accelerated stream of courses developed to ensure maximum flexibility that suit the professional needs of students by combining weekend studies and online learning. The process begins by having students pay a minimal fee of ($100) to apply for the prior learning assessment recognition process. This process will result in professional students receiving transfer credits for work experience and other training/learning received on and off the job. The criteria: you must be a sworn civilian or a uniform member of a police and or justice agency; have a minimum of three years experience; have completed the Ontario Police College training; and have worked to gain some community experience. If you meet these standards, candidates can receive up to a maximum of 23 out of the 30 courses required for a Police Foundations Leadership Diploma (i.e. please note: civilian members or other non police sworn members who have not attended the Ontario Police College may require some additional courses). Additionally, candidates who already have an accredited “high affinity” diploma (i.e. related to Justice Field) from another accredited Ontario College, may ladder directly into the University of Guelph Humber’s Justice Studies Degree Program and apply for further credit assessment. The maximum transfer credits for qualified applicants is (9 out of 15) university credits needed for a Bachelor of Applied Arts Degree. Costs For Humber Courses: The financial breakdown is as follows: $ 270.00 per course fees + $ 47.14 material and administration fees. For example, the Leadership Enhancement Series A courses which combines three courses (i.e. Interpersonal Group Dynamics, Public Administration and Communication 300), are offered together and will cost $954.42. The series B courses which combine (i.e. Political Science and Sociology), will cost $636.28; and the Series C courses, which combine (i.e. Introduction to Psychology and Criminology), will also cost $636.28. For police members, the overall cost needed to complete the 7 Humber courses through this “accelerated program option” is ($2226.98). All funds are due upon registration into the different series of courses. The university of Guelph-Humber courses are offered in pairs (i.e. three weekends with 12 weeks of online studies in between the weekends) in 14 weeks of studies similar to the Humber courses described. Costs of Guelph-Humber Courses: The university of Guelph-Humber courses are offered in pairs (i.e. three intensive weekends with 12 weeks of online studies in between the weekends) will result in two courses or 1.00 university credits. This compares with other traditional university courses that offer 14 weeks of studies and only earn .05 credits for the same time period of studies. These hybrid courses are offered in the fall, winter and summer semesters. In less than two years of studies, qualified candidates can earn a university degree. This unique customized format is the only program known in Canada developed for justice professionals. The cost of one pair of courses delivered together is $1,057.34. This does not include texts books that can average $100-150 dollars per course.
