Mrs. Reyes’ Hoppy Newsletter Kindergarten News Mrs. Reyes’ Class October 23, 2009 Dear Parents, Here is what we learned this week: Math Reading: Science: Word Family Sound comes Graphing am from sound waves produced Writing Prediction numbers Counting 1-20 and recognizing numbers Making a number line Writing a simple Beginning, middle and end of the story Sight word: to, like Sequence of a story Organizing a story Syllables by vibration Fall season bats Social Studies: Feelings Reminders: Scholastic book order is due Oct. 28th. Please remember to send in a check made out to Scholastic Books with your order form. The children faces light up when I am passing out their book order. Remember every dollar spent helps us get free books for our classroom library. School picture retake will be on Nov. 3rd Please return Library forms ASAP, on or before Oct 26th. Remember next week to follow the RED RIBBON WEEK activity calendar. PTA will be doing a silent auction for baskets that the class puts together to earn money for their classroom. Our class will be making a themed basket “Family Night”. Any donations will be appreciated. More to come….. (Auction will be held on Nov. 13th) Words we have worked on: the, my, me, I, a, see, are, go, to, like (your child should be able to read these words) Have them write a sentence using these words for extra practice. Continue to use the games I sent home 2 weeks ago. Please continue to use them so your child can learn to read. IDEAS for using the words: Memory, Word Hunt, Hang Man, BANG, ABC order, sort by how many letters are in the word. Practice number recognition at least 1-20 and counting using the number grid on the back of their Daily folder. Also make groups of 1-20 using beans. IDEAS: Make flash cards using index cards 1-20 to help with number recognition and have them put it in order. (I supplied each child with numbers in a sandwich bag for them practice make a number line at home. Encourage them to be build a number line in 2 minutes or less. Report cards go home today October 23rd. Please sign and return the paper I attached to your child’s report card. Daily Homework- Your child must memorize their lunch number. They will no longer take a lunch clip to lunch. We always need Toys or treats for our class treasure box. Your child will need 10 tickets in order go get treasure box. (Toys could be clean used toys like Mc Donald/Burger King toys) We always need Hershey Kisses and pretzels. DONATIONS NEEDED: Anything for our “Family Night” silent auction basket. IDEAS: games for different ages (some young children, some older and some family games) decks of cards, chips, score pads & pens, puzzles, dinner gift card, a DVD movie, popcorn box, chocolate, ect. Does anyone know of any business owners willing to donate items/gift cards to our class basket? Please let me know. Thanks!
