Style guide for accredited course documents

About this guide

This guide is to be used by course owners to conduct a final review of the quality of presentation of a course document they are submitting for accreditation. It has also been designed for Accreditation Support Officers to ensure a course document is consistent in format and style.

Preference: 9 pt Arial [Version 1, Page # of #] – right justified with a top border the length of the page

The same font type and size is used throughout the body of the course document.

Preference: 11 pt Arial, black

Bullet points and numbering

Dates

Bullet points and numbering are of the same type and consistently indented, if applicable.

The format of dates is consistent throughout the document, if relevant.

Preference : day/month/year (e.g. 12 October 2011)

Spelling and grammar

All page numbers are correct, if relevant.

The document has been checked and spelling is correct.

Internal consistency Where it has been necessary to duplicate course requirements or to make statements of a similar nature throughout the document, the statements are consistent. For example, general advice about delivery and/or assessment is consistent with the requirements for delivering/assessing the included units of competency.

Units of competency Units of competency contained in Part C of the course document are documented in accordance with the requirements of the Training Package Development Handbook and are formatted in the same way as training package units of competency.

Modules Modules included in Part C of the course document (if approval was granted by

ASQA to develop modules for inclusion) are documented in accordance with

ASQA’s Accredited course module template.

Create a cover page (Font: 24 pt Arial [Displayed in a table showing course code and name]).

If a contents page has been included, the insertion of a cover page may affect page numbering – confirm all page numbers are correct.

Add the course code and name to the existing header (Font: 9 pt Arial [Course number and name] – underlined and right justified). If the document contains section breaks, the header of each section must be consistent.

Add the month and year of accreditation to the existing footer (Font: 9 pt Arial

[Version 1, day/month/year accredited, Page # of #] with a top border the length of the page). If the document contains section breaks, the footer of each section must be consistent.

Enter accreditation dates in course document in Part A (using the same style and size of font as the rest of the document and in day/month/year format e.g. 12

February 2011).

Enter course number in course document in Part B (Sections 1.1, 5.1) (using the same style and size of font as the rest of the document).
