Resource Speakers
Ms Sharon E. Henry is the chief librarian of the Asian Development Bank. She holds various
positions in international organizations such as deputy of the Joint World BankInternational Monetary Fund Library, and associate director of the International
Development Research Centre (IDRC). She has also served in government as head of
the Canadian MARC Standards Office at the National Library of Canada, and most
recently as chief of the Headquarters Library of Natural Resources, Canada. She has
actively participated in professional associations at the local, national (Canada) and
international levels by holding office, presenting and publishing papers, and chairing
and organizing conferences, meetings and workshops.
Mr. Jozon Lorenzana teaches communication theory, research methods and information
society in the Department of Communication, School of Social Sciences, Ateneo de
Manila University. He finished his BA in Communication, cum laude, and MA in
Communication from the Ateneo. Aside from teaching, he does research on the social
consequences of new media. His articles have been published by the Asian Media
Information and Communication Center and the Loyola Schools Review. From 2001 to
2003, Mr. Lorenzana was program director of the Communication Technology
Management Program of the John Gokongwei School of Management.
Mrs. Corazon M. Nera is the director of libraries at the Lyceum of the Philippines. She
organized the library of the Fund for Assistance to Private Education (FAPE), the
country’s premier library for educators. With a subsidy from FAPE, she instituted the
interlibrary loan system for schools and conceptualized the library collection
development program for Filipiniana materials. She also initiated the ARALIN Project
database for Filipiniana. She has served professional associations at various times as
president, vice president, committee chair and member, resource speaker, lecturer and
trainer, and received numerous awards from them for her work. In 2002 she was
appointed member of the Board for Librarians of the Professional Regulation
Commission.
Ms Fraulein A. Oclarit is a part-time faculty member of the Notre Dame of Marbel
University College of Liberal Arts and a faculty reviewer of LS. A graduate of BS in
Library and Information Science from the University of the Philippines in Diliman, she
is a registered librarian, a 2nd placer at the 2001 licensure exam. Before 1998, she
worked with the Philippine Social Science Council and OXFAM-Ireland (Phil Office),
and currently does consultancy work for NGOs. She is a member of SOCOLA, ASLP,
and UPLISSA.
Ms. Victoria R. Santos is the library director of Notre Dame of Dadiangas College for the
past 12 years. A graduate of BSC major in Accounting at NDDC, she earned her
master’s degree at the University of San Carlos and is presently working on her doctoral
thesis for a Doctor in Management major in human resources management at NDDC.
She is currently on the board of directors of SOCOLA.
Resource Speakers
Mr. Arturo O. Barbosa is the Library Director of Mindanao State University at
Fatima Campus, General Santos City since 1982. A graduate of BSE from
Notre Dame University, Cotabato City and MSLS from the University of San
Carlos, he served as a teacher at Notre Dame of Tacurong from 1963 to 1968
before he became a library director of Notre Dame of Marbel University at
Koronadal from 1968 to 1982. He was founding President of Socsksargen
Librarians Association (SOCOLA) and remains active as its adviser to date.
Ms Rainera C. Boholst is currently the Chief Librarian of the Cebu Institute of
Technology, and a faculty member of the Graduate and Undergraduate Program
of the Library Science Department of the University of San Carlos. She earned
her MSLS from USC and a diploma course in Library Management at the BDI
School of Economics and Information Studies in the Netherlands in 1996. Her
professional work experience includes planning and library web page content
development, developing instructional modules for library instructions, library
accreditation (PAASCU), and serving as resource speaker in several seminars.
She is affiliated with several local and national professional organizations such
as PLAI and PAARL. She has been serving the USC–Graduate School Alumni
Association as treasurer since 2000 to present, and is in her second term as the
President of the Cebu Librarian’s Association, Inc.
Mrs. Prudenciana Comiling Cruz is a Career Executive Officer (CESO) and was
appointed as the 16th Director of the National Library of the Philippines in
2001. She was a grantee of local and foreign scholarships, trainings and
conferences. She has been involved in both national and international library
associations serving as president, board of trustees, trainer and resource
speaker. She is an ex-officio commissioner of the National Commission for the
Culture and the Arts (NCCA), National Historical Institute (NHI) and the
Philippine Board on Books for Young People (PBBY). Presently, Director
Cruz is a member of the executive board of the Congress of Southeast Asian
Librarians (CONSAL) and member of the Conference of Director’s of National
Libraries (CDNL).
Dr. Marianita D. Dablio is the former chair of the Department of Library and
Information Science, Mindanao State University; and faculty member of the
same university teaching Library and Information Science, English, and
Philippine Studies. She is a member of the accreditation team of the
Accrediting Agency of Chartered Colleges and Universities of the Philippines
(AACUP). She serves as special assistant to the Office of the Vice President
for Academic Affairs of the Mindanao State University.
