Lifestyle Assistants and Volunteers
one:
Planning, implementation and evaluation of both individual and group lifestyle programs that encourage
and support resident independence, creativity and dignity.
To provide appropriate and timely documentation that meets regulatory requirements.
To work in consultation with the wider care team to provide relevant and timely information for the care
planning process.
Recruitment, training and coordination of Volunteers
To participate in Mercy Place –East Melbourne continuous quality improvement activities.
Importantly, all activities must be performed in accordance with the Mercy values of Stewardship,
Respect, Innovation, Compassion and Teamwork.




Qualifications as a Diversional Therapist – minimum Cert IV Lifestyle & Leisure
Clear understanding of the lifestyle role.
A minimum of 12 months experience in aged care in a lifestyle or personal care role.
First Aid Level II certificate.

Effective written and verbal communication skills.

Ability to assess, plan, implement, evaluate and document
resident’s lifestyle needs.

Demonstrated people management skills with the ability to
liaise with residents, families, colleagues, volunteers,
external agencies and community groups.

Ability to plan, implement and evaluate group lifestyle programs
against stated goals and objectives.

Demonstrated time management and organisational skills

Knowledge of dementia specific program planning, delivery and
evaluation

Ability to work as part of a team

Understanding of OH&S requirements and responsibilities,
including infection control and emergency procedures

Ability to accept responsibility and work unsupervised

Understanding of aged care regulatory requirements including
RCS, ACFI and Accreditation

Display and apply initiative and flexibility

Understanding and participation in the continuous quality
improvement process

Motivated and enthusiastic

Ability to liaise with internal and external stakeholders to optimise
community links and promote the best possible lifestyle
opportunities for residents.

A positive and innovative approach to work

Current Drivers License.

Demonstrated knowledge and competency in the use of a
computer, particularly Windows applications.

Interview prospective Volunteers, including reference
checking, police checks and providing current PD’s and
handbooks.
Conduct Volunteer Orientation, continuous education, and

Support and coordinate the Volunteer program ensuring
that guidelines and policies are adhered to.

Effective recruitment and selection of
Volunteers to the facility.
Volunteers are appropriately trained and
developed for tasks undertaken.
Effective coordination of the Volunteer

Participate in relevant training programs and maintenance
