Violation of this rule will result in the immediate suspension of the player’s game playing and practice privileges. A hearing before the Club’s Executive Board will be convened as soon as possible to determine the consequences of the violation. A player should display good sportsmanship in all practice and playing situations. Date:_______________________________________ Player Name:_________________________________ Parent Signature:______________________________ 23 Section XII: Non-member Practice Participation Policy: Players who are not members of the Club may practice with club teams for a limited time, not to exceed two weeks. This policy is to insure that new players have a fair chance to try-out for an open position on a team, but do not negatively impact those players who are already are on a team and have financially committed to it. Non-members wishing to practice with a Club team must have prior verbal approval of the team’s coach and the Director of Coaching. Procedure: o Head Coach to contact Director of Coaching for a verbal approval of the non member participating in a practice o With Director of Coaching approval Head Coach to give verbal approval to interested player and the player’s parents o Non Member may participate in no more than 4 consecutive practices Section XIII: Guest Players Policy: Club teams may use guest players in tournaments when they are unable to roster at least 15 players for a tournament. Guest players should first come from other teams within the same age group or younger teams within the Club’s organization. This policy is to insure that all players who have made the commitment in time and money to the Club are treated fairly and do not have their playing time in tournaments negatively impacted by non Club members. If no players within the Club are available or appropriate, players from outside the club may be invited with the prior approval of the Director of Coaching. Procedure: o Head Coach to contact Director of Coaching to notify him of intent to use a guest player o Head Coach to look to same age group player on other Club teams o If no available same age group player is available Head Coach may look to players outside of the Club o Once a player has been selected Head Coach may contact the DOC for verbal approval Section XIV: Player Movement Policy Policy: The Club strives to provide avenues for the development of soccer players throughout the Club. It is generally not in the best interest of the sport for players to be recruited from one team at the detriment of another team. Efforts to legislate against this activity have proven to be complex and problematic. Further, there are clearly circumstances in which it is beneficial to a player’s development to move from one team to another within the Club. Procedure: o The central principle is full and complete communication between the interested parties. o Any player movement shall be in the best interest of the player’s development. o The initial contact for any player movement discussions shall be through the Director of Coaching. o The player’s existing coach, coach of the potential team to which the player may be moved and the Director of Coaching shall first evaluate the situation before any contact with the player or parents. o After a thorough evaluation of the request, the Director of Coaching will approve or disapprove the request. o Any appeals of the DOC decision shall be to the VP of Development of either the Rapids or Marauders. o Once a request is approved, the player and her/his parents shall first be contacted by the Head Coach of the team the player is on. The Director of Coaching and any appropriate coaches will be involved with the parent and player meeting. o The parents and player involved must realize that player movement is done with Player’s, Team and Club’s best interest considered. o At no time shall a player be offered or receive an economic incentive for participation. o Player’s shall not be enticed by promises of playing time or starting positions. o At all times there shall be an expectation of courtesy, integrity, and professionalism that should apply in any situation. 24 Section XV: Tryouts Policy: st nd Assuming there are sufficient players, the Club will attempt to form 3 teams (1 team “Navy”, 2 team “White”, 3 rd st team “Black”) in each age group, U11-U15. The 1 team will be selected before the 2nd team, which will be selected rd before the 3 team. MVP will strive to have at least two (2) teams at U16 - U18 (possibly U19), but the overriding decision will be based solely on the level of play in each age group. Procedure: U10 Developmental-U12 teams shall compete in the appropriate WSYSA District 3 division, PDL (Premier Developmental League) or US Club League (with approval from the DOC and E-Board). These teams should also enter one of the three state cups at the conclusion of the fall league. U13 teams may compete in the “Open” WSYL, PDL, US Club or appropriate District 3 division. These teams shall enter the appropriate State Cup at the conclusion of the fall league. U14-U19 teams shall compete in the highest division possible. This will include D1, D2, Classic or WSYDL. These teams will enter the appropriate State Cup for their ability level. Talent level is the determining factor for the number of teams in each age group and number of players per team. The number of teams in each age group may change from year to year, depending on the talent level. There is no definite number of players required for each MVP team. Guidelines are: U-10(Dev)-U11: U12 – U14: U15 – U18: 12 – 14 players per team maximum 14 – 16 players per team maximum 15 – 18 players per team including 2 goalkeepers. There shall be 3 Try-Out sessions for each age group. (A 4th try-out session may be scheduled if necessary.) Players are required to attend a minimum of two sessions unless prior approval is granted from the Head Coach and or Director of Coaching. This gives the players the best chance to impress the evaluators and allows the evaluators to make comparisons and the best possible decisions. All current players are required to attend and no existing or new players shall be offered a spot on any team prior to tryouts. These try-outs are used mainly to evaluate new players and have a “final look” comparing current players. Obviously, talent is the main criteria in player selection with the previous year’s performance far outweighing the three, 1.5 hour sessions. Other factors used in player selection are player/parent commitment, loyalty to the club as well as a player’s attitude and attendance at training, games, tournaments etc. Once an offer to play for MVP has been made, players/parents shall be given 24 hours to make a decision and accept. After this time, their place may be given to another player. Once your commitment is made, the club expects your full participation and support for the entire soccer season. Take into account that when you make your commitment, we need to inform other potential players that they did not make the team. Please be sensitive to others and consider your decision carefully. Players will be evaluated on the following areas: Mental Dimensions (character, leadership, attitude and discipline) Physical Dimensions (endurance, strength, speed and quickness) 25 Technical Skill (passing, receiving and dribbling) Tactical Awareness (movement off ball and ability to read the game) Coaches will base their decisions on these four areas and are responsible to make decisions for the good of the players, team and club. Pre-Tryout Meeting A pre-tryout meeting shall be held at least two weeks prior to the tryout dates. This meeting shall be coordinated through MVP Director of Coaching. The purpose of this meeting is to review these tryout procedures, identify players with the potential of moving up and identify players with the potential of being released. Time and Place of Tryouts Open tryouts will be held over two (2) weeks at the end of the each soccer year as deemed by WSYSA and any affiliates. Notice on the Maple Valley Premier web site and advertisement in local area papers and businesses shall be given indicating the specific time and place of the open tryouts. Player/Parent responsibility at Tryouts Players/Parents must register and sign medical waiver forms before participation is allowed. Players should arrive 30 minutes before the scheduled start time. Players must wear the proper soccer attire before participation is allowed (shirts, socks, shin-guards, proper shoes). Players are required to attend a minimum of two (2) tryout days. Note. An exception to the minimum tryout days shall be granted if a player is not available due to injury or any approved absence. The Director of Coaching or age group coach may be notified in writing of any such condition. Players shall not wear MVP attire during tryouts. No socks, jersey or warm ups. Player Evaluations at Tryouts Player performance will be evaluated by observing the player under the pressures of practices and games during the regular season as well as the annual tryouts. Each player shall be evaluated by at least 3 evaluators. Each player shall be issued a unique number by age-group. 26 Play Ups “Play ups” are not encouraged by MVP. If in certain cases, there is a player who could possibly “play up”, the following criteria will be followed: o o o o o o o The player must have the approval of the DOC to “play up”. The player must grade out in the top 7 of the upper age group at tryouts. The player must be planned as a starter and have an impact on the upper level age group team. There will be no “play ups” on the second “White” or third “Black” teams as long as there are enough players in the age group tryout pool to fill the open spots on these teams. If there are not enough players to fill the “White” or “Black” teams, the Head Coach of either of these teams can fill out the team’s roster with “play ups” (with approval from the DOC) as long as the lower age group has had an opportunity to try the player out, if needed. Players trying out from another Club or Association must tryout at their own age group, unless there is prior approval from the DOC or the player has “played up” on their previous Club’s “first” team. No more than 2 players can “play up” on any Navy team without approval from the DOC. Team Selection Process The purpose of open tryouts is to place players of equal ability on the same team. The rosters shall be filled in the order st nd rd of 1 team “Navy”, 2 team “White”, 3 team “Black”. The following procedure shall apply to the player selection and team formation process: Open Tryouts are held first. Age-group coaches shall confer after each try-out session to discuss potential player selection. At the end of the weekend the following conditions should be met: The “Navy” team roster is 90% filled. These players are notified. The “White” team roster is 60% filled. These players are notified. The “Black” team roster is 60% filled. These players are notified. Players being released from the previous year’s “Navy”, “White” or “Black” team and NOT being picked up by any of the other teams shall be notified by the existing coach. Players that have been identified with the possibility of moving up to a higher-level team shall be identified and contacted by the higher level team coach. If requested to do so by the higher level team coach the Director of Coaching will contact the player and parents to notify them. The players’ existing coach shall be notified prior to contacting the player. The player/parent shall notify the coach/Director of Coaching of their decision to accept a spot on the team within 24 hours. rd Open Tryouts may be held the 3 day or Saturday of the second week. Age-group coaches shall confer after each tryrd out session to discuss potential player selection. At the end of the 3 day of tryouts the following conditions should be met: Final decisions are made about the potential players moving up. Final decisions are made about players being released. The coaching staff shall notify these players. The “Navy” team is 100% filled. The “White” Team is 90%-100% filled. The “Black” team is 90%-100% filled. th Tryouts may be held on for a 4 day if necessary. Players will be given an equal opportunity to showcase their talents in various small-sided games as well as 11V11. Players should be evaluated in the following areas. (1) 1V1 (2) 4V4 scrimmage (3) 8 V 8 scrimmage (4) 11V11 scrimmage Goal Keeper Evaluations: The goal keepers shall be evaluated separately during the 1V1 and 4V4 sessions.
