Job aim
To deliver quality programmes for Maths and Science teachers working in Independent schools in Qatar so that they are better
able to teach their subjects effectively through English language medium. To do this through own inputs and contributions to
team.
Duties
Duty 1 – 30%
Training
Deliver training sessions for Maths and Science teachers (Primary/Preparatory/and Secondary) working in Qatar schools; using
materials developed specifically for this purpose, which will require ongoing adaptation and supplementing in some cases.
Sessions to have a focus on CLIL methodology. Up to 10 hours/week (including school visits)
Duty 2 – 10%
School Visits
Deliver aspects of the teacher development programme in allocated schools, observing classes and giving developmental
feedback, teaching demonstration classes, offering remedial workshops and other teacher development activities
Duty 3 – 40%
Management and Administration

To lead on the design, setting up, operation and monitoring of appropriate systems and processes to ensure training for
Phases 2 and 3 is delivered effectively (in consultation with other members of the senior management team). Includes
such things as:
o
Designing and communicating the training and cover timetables (based on parameters set by the senior trainer
team)
o
Monitoring the completion of school visits, assessment tasks and and collection of feedback by the trainer team
o
Monitoring records of work produced by trainers
o
Storage of course materials (both hard and soft copy)
o
Overseeing downloading, printing, editing, reformatting and uploading of course materials
o
Organising and updating the training noticeboard

To complete and maintain up-to-date academic and other records as required by the Project Manager

Prepare regular reports - both general progress reports and reports on progress of individual participants as required by
Project Manager

To provide copies of course documentation as required by Project Manager

To attend, contribute to, and chair meetings as timetabled

Attendance at meetings (senior management team, trainers, all staff, etc) with positive contributions

To contribute to testing and registration sessions

To cover for Project Manager/Senior Trainers as required
Duty 4 – 15%
Line Management

To line manage up to 3 full-time trainers and to carry out observations of their sessions and performance management
meetings

To assist with induction of new trainers

To act as duty officer as required (troubleshooting)
Duty 5 – 5%
Customer Care

Producing informational materials for participants and SEC

Setting up counselling sessions for participating teachers

Dealing with academic enquiries or complaints relating to courses or trainers

Ensuring trainers and project staff are fully briefed on courses and procedures

Drafting letters to participants/SEC about changes to courses or procedures

Assessments of participants and positive feedback from participants, senior trainers and SEC on training delivered show that
course objectives are being met

All assessment tasks are administered and marked on time

Feedback from participants is collected regularly and on time

Native speaker level speaker of English with a first degree, PGCE in TEFL or internationally recognised Diploma in TEFL
(UCLES DTEFLA/DELTA, Cambridge ESOL or Trinity College London Diploma in TESOL or equivalent)
At least 5 years’ full-time TEFL experience post qualification
Substantial Teacher Education experience for Preparatory/Secondary (11-18) teachers, ideally in an overseas context
Desirable competencies
Previous Experience of Working on the ALS programme in Qatar
MA in TEFL/Applied Linguistics (or equivalent)
Content and Language Integrated Learning teaching experience (CLIL)
Special requirements
Appointment to this role is subject to approval of CV by Supreme Education Council, ability to get a work visa in Qatar (which
includes a compulsory HIV test), Criminal Records Bureau checks in the UK, and, where appropriate, equivalent systems
overseas. This position is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and therefore all convictions, cautions and bindovers, including those regarded as ‘spent’, must be declared.
Due to local law restrictions accompanying partners must be married.
The normal working week in Qatar is Sunday to Thursday; however, a Saturday-Wednesday working week may be required to
meet participants’ needs.
A valid driving license is highly recommended as making the school visits, which are an integral part of the programme, will be
logistically difficult for the trainer if they cannot drive. Trainers are expected to make their own transport arrangements.
Salary
Salary is paid monthly in arrears. We anticipate the starting salary for this job will be QR 15,000-17,000 per month + terminal
gratuity.
