AIG’s U.S. Commercial Insurance unit has opportunities available for professionals from
diverse industries. Successful candidates will participate in a 6-month Accelerated
Underwriting Training Program to become a commercial or financial lines underwriter.
Ideal candidates should have 3+ years of professional experience in a non-insurance
discipline, including banking, law, engineering, environmental consulting, technology,
accounting, audit, operations or financial services . A candidate should also be talented,
experienced, analytical, and possess excellent communications and relationship building
skills. Positions may be available in AIG offices nationwide.
What You Will Find as an Underwriter
The Accelerated Underwriting Training Program will teach underwriting skills through a mix of
self-study, classroom work, case studies, e-learning and on-the-job training with a focus on the
technical aspects of underwriting and other core underwriter skills, including business writing,
sales, negotiations, presentation skills, and financial accounting training. Successful candidates
will learn how to analyze risk and exposure, understand insurance contracts, endorsements, rating,
and claims issues for the products for which they will ultimately underwrite.
AIG’s commercial underwriters are at the forefront of an exciting and dynamic industry, working
with businesses and issues related to everything from the environment and non-profit
organizations to securities class action litigation and international crisis management.
What We Are Looking For
Prior underwriting experience is not required. Recent graduates of the Accelerated Underwriting
Training Program originally worked in as diverse areas as accounting and audit to marketing,
operations and IT.
Strong analytical, written and verbal communication skills are essential, as are the ability to build
relationships and negotiate effectively.
In addition, the candidate must possess a college degree or equivalent experience, and at least
three (3) years of proven work experience
