During the meeting of Kuwait University Council
Adopting the University budget for the academic year 2009-2010
Adopting the financial regulation of the Research Services Unit
Approving to increase the financial allocations of the students
scholarship
Reappointing the Deans of the Colleges of Medicine, Allied Health
Science, Engineering, Business Administrations and Art.
Dr. Anwar Al-Yatama, the Secretary of Kuwait University Council and the Secretary General, has
announced that the council has met on Wednesday 6th of the current month and discussed a number
of topics on the agenda under the presidency of the President of the Council, her Excellency the
Minister of Education and Higher Education Dr.Modhi Al-Humod.
Dr. Al-Yatama said that the Council approved the University's calendar for the academic years
2010-2011 and 2010-2011(attached) and adopted the project of the University's budget of
2010/2011where they stressed the need to support the University's financial resources especially in
the light of the increased numbers of the admitted student so the university do not have to raise the
admission rates due to the lack of the University's budget.
Dr. Al-Yatama pointed out that the council has agreed to increase the number of the members of the
Tenders Committee from two members to five upon the request of the General Secretariat in order
to achieve more transparency and financial control. The Council also agreed to increase the
financial allocations of the scholarship students in the university and modify them from 60 K.D to
100 K.D for the single student and increasing the housing allowance for the married student from
70 K.D to 100 K.D
The Secretary General, Dr.Anwar Al-Yatama has explained that the Council approved the financial
regulation of the Research Services Unit in the Office of Vice President for Research in addition to
approving re mandating Dr.Farida Al-Awadi as a consultant in Kuwait Institute for Scientific
Research, assigning Dr.Saad Al-Rashed in the College of Engineering and Petroleum as a counselor
at the General Secretariat of the Private Universities Council and renewing the contract of
Dr.Mohamed in the Chemistry Department.
Dr. Anwar Al-Yatama confirmed that the Council approved the proposal of banning smoking inside
university buildings and allows it only in places that will be allocated for smokers outside the
University buildings. He also said that the Council reviewed the study of the output of Kuwait
University in the labor market and approved in principle to establish a College of Engineering and
Computer Science in Kuwait University. Furthermore, the council agreed on giving sabbatical,
scientific leadership mission and PhD leave for a number of the academic staff in the University in
addition to reassigning and appointing members in the councils of all universities aboard. He added
that the Council agreed to address the Civil Service to cancel the condition of having a private or
investment housing in order to get the housing allowance set for the faculty members. He pointed
out that the Council has discussed the situation of the teachers' assistants scholarships of the
university who were withdrawn from the scholarships and asked to pay their tuitions so the council
agreed to drop what was unpaid of their expenses and relieved them of the rest of the debt if they
were assigned for two semester to appoint them as members of the teaching staff in the university.
The Council has approved promoting numbers of the academic staff member according to the
attached table and agreed to reappoint the Deans of the following names:
