Course Description
This academic course provides the students with an introduction to the earth sciences,
physics, chemistry, and biology. This comprehensive view gives the students an
understanding of the concepts and principles of science and provides opportunities to
develop problem solving, and technological skills necessary to compete successfully
in the 21st century. The course devotes a great deal of the class time to studentscentered laboratory activities and small group activities related to team projects and
research. Integrated/Coordinated Science is a standards- based course that serves as a
foundation course for all high school science courses. Integrated/Coordinated
Science 1AB meets one year of the University of California requirement for an
elective science class and fulfils the physical science requirement for graduation.
B.
California State Content Standards and Instructional Components to be
addressed:
The goal for every student in this course is to demonstrate understanding of the
Content Standards. The stands for the courses severally are as follows:
EarthComm - Dynamic Earth Processes – Standards 3a-e
Biogeochemical Cycles - Standards 7a-c
California Geology - Standards 9b-c
Active Physics - Heat and Thermodynamics
Waves – Standards 4a-f
Electric and Magnetic phenomena Standards 5d,e,h,i
Active Chemistry – Atomic and Molecular Structure Standards 1a-e
Chemical Bonds Standards 2a-c
Acids and Bases Standards 5a, c
Chemical Thermodynamics Standards 7b, c
Active Biology - Ecology Standards 6a-f
Evolution Standards 8a,b,e
Investigation and Experimentation
 Scientific progress is made by asking meaningful questions and conducting
careful investigations. As a basis for understanding this concept and addressing
the content in the other four strands, students are encouraged to employ critical
thinking skills as a basis for formulating their own questions and perform
investigations.
Requirements and Grading Policy:

Grading
Grading will be based on a percentage system. Points will be totaled and grades will be
assigned as follows: 90% - 100% A, 80%-89% B, 70%-79% C, 60%-69% D, 50%-59% F
An E will be earned in cooperation for students with excellent attendance, a good attitude
to work in class, and good cooperation.
A U in cooperation will be earned by students who are discourteous, inattentive in class,
and who are tardy or absent consistently. A U will also be earned if assignments or
homework are consistently missing.
Due Dates
All assignments/lab reports/interactive notebook(s) are due at the beginning of class on
the day specified. To ensure a passing grade, you must turn in all assignments/lab
reports/interactive notebook. No late assignments. You must make me aware of special
circumstances in advance. You must have a valid and verified excuse for an extension.
Late work will be subject to grade reduction (two full grade points per day up to four
days). Students will be expected to make up tests/exams missed due to excused absence
the day they return to school at lunch time only.
Homework assignments are posted on the board in class and on the Hamilton
Academy of Musicl website.

Positive Classroom Behavior
I.
Take Responsibility for Creating a Positive Environment in the Classroom
Listen attentively to instruction
Listen openly to one and other in a class discussion
Wait until someone is finished and you are called on before responding.
Write your comment down if you feel you might forget it while waiting to be
called on.
Respond to others in ways that show you respect their opinions even if you do not
agree with them.
Avoid distracting behavior.
Be positive and upbeat in tone, attitude, and body language.
Make an effort to keep this learning environment, clean, neat, and comfortable.
Be dismissed by the teacher not the bell.
II.
Take Responsibility for Your Own Learning
Take care of personal business before class.
Be in your seat and ready to begin when the bell rings. Check to see what
directions for each day are on the front board/overhead before the bell rings.
Bring all necessary materials to class each period:
Interactive Notebook (graph type or graph papers)
Black/Blue pen, Pencil, Ruler, Scientific Calculator
Required Text
Attitude prepared to learn
Follow directions carefully.
Ask questions when you are not sure of what to do.
Turn in all assignments on time.
Set a part of your notebook to list assignments and the dates they are due.
Do your own work.
Be sure to keep up with your reading. It is imperative that you have read the
information in your text book/laboratory handout before class activities.
Take some time each evening to do some studying.
Please sign and return to teacher.
It is the responsibility of the students to inform the teacher and parents of progress
and difficulties in class.
Student hereby promise to follow/maintain all class/lab. safety rules at all times.
