THE NEW MATH-------There was a time when few people in Britain collected Conder tokens. Americans discovered them, and
found they were VERY inexpensive---and took them home. In the US, they were also inexpensive, as the
cost of the tokens in America reflected the prices in Britain. The British market is still dictating the
prices in America today. In the last couple of years, in 2004 in particular, dealer stock in the UK has
presented me with tokens at up to double the cost of the prices at which I have been selling them!! Auctions
have been even worse, with lots of competition and high prices. Choice and rare items can sell for multiples
of estimates. What’s going on? In my view the internet, E-mail, and E-Bay have had a major role in
increasing awareness of the tokens, allowing people who just “found them” to buy them by private sale and
auction. Tokens that were seemingly plentiful (but really never were) have been dispersed everywhere.
Demand has put British prices up an average of 20% from a couple of years ago, but the 500 LB. gorilla is
the lessening value of the dollar, which has lost $.25 on the exchange with the pound in just the last year. An
UNC, formerly £50, trading at a $1.65 exchange rate, was $82.50. Today, that UNC is around £70—and the
exchange is around $1.90 for a cost of $133 for the same token!! So—the “new math” dictates a rise in my
prices, simply to stay in business. Now, not ALL tokens bring higher prices--but others have gone up
substantially---- the demand for types determining value. My last few lists have offered many tokens at
prices below their replacement cost. You will note on this list that not all prices have been raised, but many
have, with regret. I am not fond of the “new math”, but what is, is!! I am still buying, and will use the
“new math” for purchases, so please call if you have anything for sale. All that said, enjoy the list----- Bill

These interesting tokens were not saved by collectors at the time they were issued like their 18th century
counterparts. Very high grade pieces are thus all quite scarce. As well, many that were in circulation received
edge dings and other scrapes, due to their large size. Issued primarily by large industry, they are a reminder
of how industry coped with a lack of change as the industrial revolution gained momentum.

appeared on the cover of CTCC Journal Vol 6, #3, issue 21. Fall 2001. He planned to do a number of
drawings, and offer them in limited prints, numbered to 100. Due to personal reasons only a few of each
were made, signed and numbered. I now have the rest of them, and am offering them here. The prints are
on 8-1/2 x11 format paper, and take up just enough of the paper to make matting and framing easy to do.

NAPPY KNIFE--- 5 Frank coin, 1870. Bust of Napoleon II. Split in half, and made into a nice pocket knife,
with a small knife and a separate nail file that fold out of the center. Interesting item, $65.
LOVE TOKEN---Eliz. Anne Watts and Robert Unwin 1802 engraved on a 1797 Cartwheel 2 pence. $135.
PIGS---53mm Bronze medal, National Pig Breeders. Pig/Man with pigs. Awarded to P. Hays 1936 $38.

hearts between Conucopias. About VF, usual marks for the grade, but no real damage, first I have seen $155.
King Louis Phillippe, Victoria--- Bust of each on obv, 39mm medal, visit of Phillippe, 1844. GEF $44.
Victoria & Albert—Visit to Germany, August 1845. 39mm WM, EF/GEF Rare thus, very choice $58.
Prince of Wales—Marriage of, 1863. WM 26mm, hfs. His crest/inscription. Quite scarce, nice, $45.
Queen Victoria—1897 Jubilee. 39mm Bust L/Heirs to the Throne. WE 3477D-1. EF/AU, WM, luster---$34.
Queen Victoria---1897 Jubilee. Royal Mint. 40mm Bz. Bust L/Inscription in branches. Nice EF $28.
VICTORIA---1897—51mm Bz medal for “Success in Art”, choice. Like WE-3035-1, but this one
awarded by the board of education. Unlisted as this---- GEF, wonderful surfaces, most likely RARE-- $75.
VICTORIA---1887. 39mm red Vulcanite medal, RARE—WE 2315A-1 India Rubber, abt New $65.
Victoria/Edward VII--- 45mm CU medal, presented by Kings Norton Metal Co to their employees in 1901.
Obverse, Bust Victoria, legends—Reverse, Edward VII and Alexandra, ascended the throne. This medal is
Scarce, and this example is choice near new, no marks, luster, superb. You shall not find better---$165.
Edward VII-----1902. WE 4630-1. Coppered Shellcard, hfs, about new. Bust R/legends. $32.
Edward VIII—1927, as Prince, “Church Lads” medal. Bronze, 32mm with ribbon and hanger. EF+ $42.
Edward VIII---1937—A unused matt finish medal, with ribbon and suspender. 32mm. About new, $40.
George V and Mary--- 1910. Opening of the 1st South African Parliament. WM, 38mm, nice EF luster $36.
George VI—Coronation, Sandbach. A Tablet shaped, 29X41mm bronze medal with ribbon, hanger.

MODEL COINS--- These tiny coins served as model patterns and toy coins from various manufacturers. I
have three groups available: Group 1, 10 pieces, 1/8th, 1/4th , ½, and 1 Farthing, ½ penny, penny, ½ soverign,
soverign, 2 soverign, and 5 soverigns. All 10, $65. Group 2, 7 pieces, less the farthing, soverign, and 2

LLOYD’S WEEKLY—they counterstamped so many coins that they wound up with the first sanction by a
government against the practice. On 1806 penny, $15. On George IV penny, $15. On a Counterfeit ½ d $15.
COUNTERSTAMPS—Pears Soap on 1856 10 Centime, & Empire Theater on 1854 10 centime. $15 each.
COINS—Mixed bag---9 pieces, George II to George IV, 1730-1827 most VG-F, 1/4d to 1/2d. $45 all.

The English grading system is used on all tokens, but the grading abbreviations are USA. A plus or a minus
next to a grade indicates that the piece is in the grade indicated, but look, surfaces, or marks may be a bit
better or worse than the grade given. Scr= scratch. Hfs, =holed for suspension. Rm=rim nick.
UNC—no wear. AU—Tad rub. EF— light circulation. VF-Very fine. F-Fine. VG Very good. G-Good.
