Sika® Primer-210 PRIMER
Specifier note:
These product specifications have been edited based on MASTERFORMAT 2004 Edition.
This product guide can be used to specify Sika® Primer-210 Primer, a primer for silicone sealant
and adhesives for both new and remedial construction. This product specification can be inserted
into SECTION 07 92 00 - JOINT SEALANTS or SECTION 07 01 91 - JOINT SEALANT
RENOVATION or SECTION 08 85 00 – GLAZING ACCESSORIES. The various paragraphs will
need to be inserted in the appropriate locations in Part 1, 2, or 3 of those sections. It can also be
inserted in other sections where a silicone sealant and primer are installed as part of another
construction element. It is not likely that a separate specification section focused specifically on
Sika® Primer-210 Primer would be used.
PART 1 - GENERAL

A. Section includes a primer for silicone sealants and adhesive for both new and remedial
construction.

A. Provide in accordance with Section 01 33 00 - Submittal Procedures:

PRIMER
A. Type: Liquid primer applied to concrete, masonry, plywood, metal, organic coatings
(e.g. PPC, PVDF), and other construction materials to promote adhesion of onecomponent and two-component Sikasil® silicone sealants, as manufactured by Sika
Engineering Silicones Srl. and Sika Corporation USA.
B. Composition: Dilute solution of reactive materials in the solvent
C. Color: Clear.
D. Flash point: [25 degrees F] [-4 degrees C].
E. Volatile organic compound (VOC) content: 66 % (w).

Shelf life: 9 months.
PART 3 - EXECUTION
3.1
PRIMER APPLICATION
A. Prepare substrates and apply primer in accordance with manufacturer’s instructions.
B. Handle, store, and apply materials in compliance with applicable regulations and
material safety data sheets (MSDSs).
C. Store primer at temperature below 77 degrees F (25 degrees C) in tightly closed
containers. Do not apply primer hydrolyzed by contact with atmospheric moisture and
indicated by milky appearance.
D. Thoroughly clean surfaces of dirt, debris, contaminants, and substances that would
inhibit application. Ensure surfaces are dry.
E. For smooth metal substrates, apply primer by brush or felt at approximate rate of
800 square feet per gallon (20 square meters per liter). For porous substrates, apply
primer by brush at approximate rate of 250 square feet per gallon (6.5 square meters per
liter).
F.
Allow primer to dry and react 30 minutes minimum prior to application of silicone
sealant.
