1. What is a persuasive message?
A persuasive message is a type of message that used to convince receiver to make
them change their opinion. It's a request for action when you believe the receiver
may be unaware, disinterested, or unwilling; moreover, It is usually an indirect
message and viewed as neither positive nor negative by the receiver.
2. What are the two primary goals of persuasive messages?
to get the receiver to read or listen to the entire message.

3. Describe the four parts of the Indirect Plan for persuasive messages.
1) Attention – It is the first paragraph of the indirect plan of persuasive message. It
has to gain receiver’s attention in the beginning to make sure that the message is
read or heard from the receiver.
2) Interest – Build on the attention gained in the opening. it presents the benefits to
the receiver and convince the receiver to continue reading.
3) Desire – Build on the receiver’s attention and interest by providing proof of
benefits. Stress benefits to the receiver and downplay any negative points or
obstacles.
4) Action – Motivate the receiver to take immediate action. it must be positive. And
Make action easy.
4. What are some of the different types of persuasive messages?
Indirect plan is used when preparing complex persuasive request,
recommendations, special claims, sales messages and some collection message.
5. List and describe the three stages normally used in collection messages.
1) Reminder stage – This stage is a short, direct, polite message to a customer
who may just simply forget to pay.
2) Appeal stage – This is the stage where the sender uses the indirect plan for
persuasion.
3) warming stage – This stage comes in when the other stages fail to collect. The
messages in the warning stage uses a direct plan as the sender no longer concerns
of maintaining the receiver’s goodwill.

by rewriting them using the techniques examined in this

1. Explain why the following paragraph would be ineffective as the opening of
a letter to Dawn trying to persuade her become the membership committee
chairperson for the SIFE organization.
The local SIFE chapter at Belmont College needs someone to serve as
membership committee chair for this school year. You know a lot of business
students on campus, so you should take this position.
This following paragraph is ineffective. It is too harsh and too direct. Because
the beginning may grabs Dawn’s attention but certainly in a negative way, so it
should be more positive. Besides, it sounds very impersonal and lacks of
appreciation. It shows that this paragraph is not following the guideline for indirect
plan of persuasive message.
2. Rewrite the message above to make it more effective.
The local SIFE chapter at Belmont College, which is a successful and
renowned organization for students for many year, is playing an important role in
finding and giving real business to students. Today, SIFE is seeking for the
membership committee chairperson for the SIFE organization. Although you are
hard-working, smart and know more about business students on campus. Many
students on the campus have voted you for the position. That is the reason why
SIFE is honor to recruit you into our team.
3. Explain why the following paragraph would be ineffective in closing a
persuasive request message.
If you are willing to participate in the marketing survey of consumer products,
read the brochure that is enclosed and let us know of your interest so we can
mail the surveys to you.
This following paragraph is ineffective in closing a persuasive message
because It does not motivate the receiver to take the action when the receiver has
to read the entire brochure and the important details were not listed on the letter.
The paragraph is negative, it emphasizes that the receiver does not have to accept
this. It more difficult way for taking an action. To solve this The ending should ask
for a simple action and encourage the receiver to act quicker.
4. Rewrite the message above to make it more effective.
