THE STORY (20 minutes)- Who Wrote the Bible

Week 6- September 9th
Today you will be showing Volume 2 of “What’s in the Bible?” You will be playing the
second half of the first show in the video, “Who Chose the Books of the Bible.” You will
start the show at 13:23 video time (Phil Vischer saying “All right it’s time to dig back into
the Bible.”) and watch through the end of the first video (29:45 video time “Jelly Telly
Symbol”)
Ask: Who was able to write down all of the information on the Genesis sheet?
How about we help one another out. Help kids fill in the missing authors on their
“Who Wrote the Bible” worksheets
Ask: Who can explain salvation and redemption?
Ask: What does God want to save us from?
Say: It does sound fun to have things our own way and always putting ourselves
first, but it is impossible to have friendships and relationships if we are only
thinking of ourselves. We have to choose daily to put God first in our lives and
others before ourselves.
Have the kids put their Genesis worksheets away in their folders.
EXPLORE MORE (10 Minutes) Love & Kindness Coupons
Supplies: Print outs of coupons, Stapler, Markers, Scissors
Preparation:
Before class print out or copy coupon sheet 1 and sheet 2 for each child. Cut out each
coupon before hand for the younger children. Older kids can cut out the coupons
themselves. Write examples of activities the kids can perform as shown below on the
board. This will make it easier for the kids to choose some meaningful ways to show
their love.
Examples:
1. Serve you breakfast in bed
2. Give you hugs and kisses
3. Clean my room right away
4. Vacuum the house
5. Cook dinner
6. Clean the dishes
7. Water the plants
Week 6- September 9th
8. Do my homework without complaining
9. Watch my baby brother or sister
What you will do:
After cutting out the coupons, put them together between the front and back covers,
then staple together as shown. Then have the kids fill in the blanks to show whom the
book is from, who the book is for, and what activities they are willing to do when a
coupon is used.
SNACK- (5-7 Minutes)
First sanitize the children’s hands with the hand sanitizer before handing out the
snack. Snacks are in the black cabinet. Please make sure to check each child’s name
tag for any food allergies before serving the snack.
GAME (10-15 Minutes)- Christian Quest- The Books!
Supplies: Plastic Sword
Preparation:
Have the kids get out their “Old Testament Books of the Bible” worksheet. Tell them to
grab a Bible and fill in the next 5 books of the Bible on their worksheet. Give them a
couple of minutes to try and memorize the new books.
What you will do:
Divide the kids into two equal teams. Choose one team to go first. This team will name
the first book of the Bible. If they are correct, they hand the sword to the other team.
Inform them that if they strike others with the toy sword their team will automatically
loose the game. The next team names the second book of the Bible. If they name the
book correctly, they hand the sword back to the first team. This continues until the kids
have named all the books of the Bible or until one of the teams cannot name the next
book. If a team cannot name the next book, the opposing team must be able to name it
in order to win. When the kids get really good at it, you can have them spell the books of
the Bible as they take turns reciting them in order. Kids on the same team can help
each other. At first, allow the kids to use their Bibles to help learn the books.
Week 6- September 9th
Start with the following story:
Once upon a time (about three days ago), there were a couple of youngsters who
wanted to become knights. At least they thought so. They liked the idea of wearing
shiny armor, riding the best horses and hanging out with the royal family. Little did they
know that it would take long hours of practice to acquire the skills they would need to
become honorable knights. The wise knight practices and then practices again,
preparing for battle. Being very wise young people, they decided to add games to their
training. These games would be a fun way to gauge the effectiveness of their training
and test the level of skill that each of them had attained. In our quest to become
stronger Christians, we too need to sharpen our skills by praying and reading God's
Word, the Bible. So young Christians, are you ready to sharpen you skills? If so, let the
games begin!
The books they have learned so far (including today’s): Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus,
Numbers, Deuteronomy, Joshua, Judges, Ruth, 1 Samuel, 2 Samuel, 1 Kings, 2
Kings, 1 Chronicles, 2 Chronicles, Ezra, Nehemiah, Esther, Job, Psalms,
Proverbs, Ecclesiastes, Song of Songs, Isaiah, Jeremiah, Lamentations, Ezekiel,
Daniel, Hosea, Joel, Amos
