2. Pastor David's Annual Report For the year 2014 I'm certain that I am much like you in admiration of many who struggle, sometimes even fight, to come to Church on Sunday morning: to watch little Muriel Richardson’s face glow with a great smile, so pleased that she had made it into the house of the Lord, but knowing that she had so many aches and pains; or to wait until Louie Hart could collect his breath coming in the door, knowing that it was so important for him to be in a special chair the top of the stairs; or to see Mrs. Tiley’s happy face Sunday after Sunday as she was so excited about turning 100 years old. If you ask me the important recognitions that I would have for the year 2014, they have to be with these three very special people, two of whom recently went home to be with the Lord and Saviour. What a privilege it is to be able to spend the entire calendar year here at First Baptist Church in Smiths Falls! To say the least, this is a very busy church. There always seems to be some activity, some meeting, some joyous event that we are either stepping out of or heading into. Along the way we said goodbye to some beloved friends, and we added new people, especially a new staff person. Plans for an additional staff person began long before I came here in October of 2013. These plans escalated, and were changed so that by the Spring of 2014 we were now looking for a full-time staff person to be our new Family Life Pastor. Over the Summer, we met and felt led to call Douglas Ford to be our first Pastor of Family Life, a position he accepted, and began on September 1. His presence has been well received, and we value his wisdom. So many great things happened at FBC in 2014. We had an incredible Easter with the return of the SONrise Service, hosting it at the chimney site on Highway 43, where our Church began. We celebrated 181 years of ministry in Smiths Falls with our Anniversary Service on 26 June, recalling long-serving former pastor, Rev. Ron Watson, to preach. We prayed together with the Christian community at the Global Days of Prayer; on special days of prayer; and when we Proclaimed God's Word at Easter time, reading the whole New Testament. We took bus trips to Ottawa and Algonquin Park. We had Sunday morning and Wednesday night and Friday morning Bible studies. We preached one series from the book of Philippians, and preached on some serious themes. We marched for Jesus from 1 3. church to church on Good Friday, and we gathered for a Christmas concert with Sean Dayton at Lombardy Hall. We sang hymns monthly, and introduced new songs and videos. We were delighted by the strength of the Keenagers’ program for seniors, and were so pleased to see the young people returning to our Church through Pastor Doug's midweek program. We concluded a church service on getting be connected to God by having the power in all of Smiths Falls cut off! We laughed, cried, and supported each other in the name of Jesus Christ. It was my privilege and honor this year to perform three funerals in 2014: for Bessie Salter, Lois Davey and for Muriel Richardson. It was also my privilege to perform three weddings this year, two of which are right here at the church: for Andy and Susan McPhee, and for Brent and Teneisha Allan. So, what about looking ahead? What should we be looking for in the future? Churches everywhere are faced with the joy of holding the past, and reaching out to the future. We at First Baptist Church must be ready to reach this present generation, and ready for the next generation, all the while holding onto, and maintaining, the basic Christian values, principles, and tenets of the faith without wavering. We must practice proper innovation, while respectfully holding onto good traditions that have kept First Baptist Church strong for 181 years. We must continue to have our doors open to the community, whether through our church library or through church services designed to draw people in, or through other special events. We also must continue to reach into the community outside of the walls of First Baptist, sharing the good news of Jesus Christ in the mission field of Smiths Falls and area. We must be the hands and feet of Jesus, therefore, wherever we go. The powerful message of hope and peace and love of Jesus Christ is the most relevant message this world will ever hear, and we have to make sure we are packaging and presenting it in a way that those that are hungry and thirsting to hear the Word of God today in Smiths Falls will need to hear. But we must also constantly ask yourselves questions like: does the average person in this area know where First Baptist Church is: does the average person in Smiths Falls know what First Baptist Church stands for: does the average person Smiths Falls have a reason to care that there is a First Baptist Church? First 2 4. Baptist Church must stand strong for Jesus Christ until the Lord returns. This great challenge has to continue to be for us all to share the Good News of Jesus Christ in 2015 and until the Lord calls us home. Friday morning, Bible study Friday morning Bible study began in the fall of 2013, and has continued through to today. We have been working through The Book of Acts, Luke's record of the earth church. As 2015 is now upon us, the goal is to finish The Book of Acts sometime in the month of February, and then we should be moving on to The Book of Jonah. If you are available on Friday mornings, please join us at ten o’clock. Wednesday Night Bible Study The Wednesday Night Bible Study has been an important part of First Baptist Church for many, many years. When I began service here at First Baptist Church in the fall of 2013, Bernie and Angela Horley led the Fall Bible Study session, I led the Winter session, and Bob and Janet James led the Spring session. This pattern is one that we are looking to repeat over the next few years, Lord willing. In 2014, the Winter session looked at The Book of Philippians, while Bob and Janet James led us in a reflection of God's magnificence. This past Fall the Horleys led us in a study of the Gospel According to Mark. Starting in 2015, Wednesday nights have been changed to a family night, therefore we are starting our Bible Studies at 6:15 pm., and I will lead the Winter session with a study on The Book of Colossians. Saturday Night Hymn Sing We began the monthly Saturday Night Hymn Sings in April of this past year, meeting at 6:30 pm., the first Saturday of the month. Led by our wonderful accompanist, Morna Douglas, the Saturday Night Hymn Sings are a simple one-hour gathering where we turn in our Hymn Book to find the old Hymns of faith, and proclaim the joy of singing unto the Lord. Perhaps the most fun part of the Saturday Night Hymn Sings is when we ask those that are gathered for their favorites. It is so joyful to hear people calling out their favourite hymn that has touched them in their lives. Looking ahead to 2015, the Saturday Night Hymn Sings will continue, but we are looking to add something somewhat similar. See below: 3 5. Video Café Nights (a Proposal) Because of the success of Saturday Night Hymn Sings, and because it is so wonderful to enjoy the many new Christian videos that are out there, there is a proposal that we would have a monthly Saturday Night Video Café, the last Saturday of the month at 6:30 PM. We will gather in the back of the sanctuary (the chapel), and allow those who gather to sit and chat and watch videos and enjoy coffee and sing praise to God to the newest and greatest Christian videos. Blessings in Christ Jesus our Lord, Pastor David W. Stead Pastor of Family Life Annual Report For The Year 2014 The last four months of 2014 seemed like a much greater portion of the year than the third they represented. Most likely, because my call and arrival at First Baptist Church these last few months have been jam packed with activity, relationships and planning. The result is what follows, a list of past events and planned activities, all of which should be seen as proof of God’s grace at work in our collective lives. ❏ Youth Group meeting regularly and focusing on building community among the participants ❏ Joy Time continuing as a joyful time with a focus on Bible basics ❏ Wednesday Family Night in place for the first quarter of 2015 ❏ Christian Education Committee aligned with ongoing plans to promote discipleship in the church and community ❏ Plan to Protect guidelines communicated and plans to update beginning in spring 2015 ❏ Children’s play to celebrate the Christmas season ❏ Vacation Bible School being planned for August 2015 ❏ Countless times of mutual encouragement amongst the church families 4 6. The preceding overview shows God bringing us together with a sense of enthusiasm for what the future holds. God is at work, he is drawing people to himself, and using this church to do it. I am thankful for the opportunity to serve Jesus by providing leadership to our family programs and even more so, for the chance I have already had, to build deeply meaningful relationships with so many of you. Douglas Ford, Pastor of Family Life Deacon Report for the year 2014 Your Deacon Board for 2014 was made up of ten members: Charlotte Bell, Sharon Boyce, Gail Brennan, Terry Fagan, Nancy Ferguson, Glen Irvine, Sandy Nugent, Paul Smith, Ed Wills, and Eric Wills. Throughout the year, we met monthly for Deacon Meetings with the Pastor and weekly with the Pastor and Elders for prayer time. This team has been very busy and productive throughout the year. Our snow bird members were able to participate in meetings via Skype or FaceTime and once we worked out the glitches, this was very effective. We are thankful for Paul chairing throughout most of the year and for Sandy faithfully recording minutes of meetings. The teams within the board who visited, cared for and encouraged our congregation are to be commended for their tireless volunteer hours. Deacon work goes far beyond the meetings. Our Pastoral Care Team made and distributed meals to many who needed a lift either because of sickness, injury, death or overload. Meals were cooked at the church and taken with a visit to those needing this touch. Hands on care was also given in the form of drives for appointments, sitting with some while spouses attended events at the church, and other acts of kindness. Regular visitation of the shut-in members at nursing homes or in their own homes has become a wonderful ministry, with chapel services being held at three nursing homes monthly and communion served for some who have missed this for years. We thank the Deacon Care Givers for their work in communicating news and needs to the congregation. Thanks to Jackie Smith for coordinating, and to our callers: Barbara Cole; Margaret Coughlin; Marjorie Evoy; Patsy Garvin; Margaret 5 7. Hart; Lois Healey; Beatrice Hill; Janet James; Pat Muldoon; Betty Anne Small; Joyce Wills. Financial gifts were given through our Benevolent Fund for those in need of a little help both in the church and in the community. Twelve families received a gift at Christmas. We were able to successfully file our Articles of Continuance to comply with the new Canada Not-for-profit Corporations Act. We received our Certificate of Continuance as of August 22, 2014. Special thanks to Mr. Greg Fournier who reviewed our application without any charge to the Church. We appreciate his willingness to assist us throughout the year with legal questions. A special thanks goes to the search team, Pastor David, David Bell, Berva Rice, Debra Kuehl, Wendy Hillier, and Betty Anne Small for finding our Pastor of Family Life Doug Ford and we welcome Doug and his family to our Church family. Doug is reviving children and youth ministries and we are pleased to have him on board. Wednesday night Family Night promises to be a great addition to the Church programs. The Deacon Board met with the Elders and Pastors for a Workshop on October 18 to begin work to formulate a Five-Year Vision Plan for FBC. This was a good beginning. In the coming year we will meet together again and will include the congregation in meetings to plan for the future. We have been blessed by the ministry of Pastor David throughout the year. He is opening our doors to the community, to new service, and to our awareness of Christ’s call on this His Church. We value his passion for the work of the Lord, and are thankful for the new life he is bringing here, and the healing he has enabled within our congregation. Chair, Nancy Jean Ferguson for the Board of Deacons, FBC. Serving together for the Lord. 6 8. Clerk’s Report for 2014 As I assemble all the reports for this Annual Report Book, I am reminded once again how very blessed we are to have such a committed and vibrant congregation, working for the Lord and for the Kingdom. I pray that 2015 will bring great things as we are led by Pastors David and Doug, and the Holy Spirit. With the help and guidance of Sandy Nugent, my Assistant Clerk and Nancy Ferguson, our resident By-laws expert, I have been able to perform the tasks of Clerk in 2014. It is always a blessing and joy to work with them. Mission Planning Team Report 2014 Mission Planning Team members in 2014 were: Bernie Horley Nancy Cassibo Jamie Schoular Ron Ferguson Marie Wilde (Women's) Judy Snider (chair) Rev. David Stead attended and took part in our meetings. Highlights from the mission team in 2014: Ongoing support for our Partners in Mission, the Kennys in Kenya, and the Soucys who have been language training this year in their new posting in Latin America. The newsletters from these partners are made available on the mission board in the Timpany room for those who wish to pick up copies. Please check out that board for all mission news. Ongoing support also continued for Rachel Courtney (Sticklee) for her work in the Dominican Republic, Ian White's work in Kenya, and Transport for Christ's overseas missions. During the year, Rachel made the decision to stay in Canada so her support will be discontinued in 2015. Centre Vie (Haiti): Ron Ferguson and his son, Ron, made a trip to Haiti early in the year and reported on the progress there as he visited the schools where children are enrolled. He verified that the funding we send is being used appropriately. We are grateful to Ron for the work he does in keeping the financial records for the givings for this project and keeping the team updated. Support of $100 each was given in support to those teens going on the March break trip (2014) to the Dominican Republic. Our 2015 budget will give the same support. We encouraged the support of the CBM's Bolivian Chagus project for our Mother's Day special offering. A 'starvation lunch' of rice was held at the end of April to promote this. We were able to donate $905 for this project. Some of our members have again helped with the Anglican church's community dinners which take place monthly. This worthwhile project has also been supported by a financial donation. The Presbyterian community luncheon (monthly) was also supported financially although we haven't been called on to physically help out there yet. A luncheon was held for the young women, their babies and the staff of the Susan 8 10. Shirley Home after our May meeting so that all our team could meet these people we are helping support. This group was also invited to our Christmas banquet at Lombardy Hall and 12 of them accepted and enjoyed the evening. The Short Term Mission Away Opportunities Policy/Guidelines were looked at, amended and finalized. 54 boxes were collected for the Samaritan's Purse 'Operation Christmas Child'. Thank you to everyone who filled a box! We took part again in the 'Celebration of Lights', a town project to light up Victoria Park with Christmas displays. We were given the same terrific location to set up our signs and lights where those driving by in the daytime could read them from Abbott St. Much appreciation to Pastor David for the work he did in making the signs sturdier and providing a manger and cross for the top. Thanks also to Graham Bell, David Snider and Terry Fagan for help in set up and take down. Thanks to Bernie Horley for his many years on the Mission Planning Team as he steps down this year. His wisdom will be missed. Judy Snider Chair, Mission Planning Team 2014 Technical Report 2014 saw quite a few changes to the tech setup of the church. In terms of volunteer personnel, early in the year Wil Hutchings decided to take a break from helping with service sound, and decided not to return after taking the summer off. Scott Robertson joined as an emergency backup. The year’s budget expenditures consisted of: 1. Replacement of the Pastoral Body Kit and microphone which went missing in April. 2. Addition of high quality noise canceling headphones to further improve technician’s ability to balance house and video sound mix. 3. Consultation with Dave Daw from Summit Sound to discuss noise in the sound system and looking at possibilities for improvements to the system. 4. New cables for sound equipment interconnects and cable from sound board to video camera after one of the connections failed. Starting in September, Pastor Stead and I began cleaning/re-organizing the sound booth which extended into troubleshooting and attempting to resolve issues with the 9 11. sound and video systems. This Tuesday evening habit has become a regular tradition and has helped to resolve several issues which resulted in the decision not to replace the sound board as was budgeted for. Objectives for 2015 include: 1. Replacement of main video projector with a newer and cheaper to maintain unit. 2. Further development of secondary video project plans. 3. Addition of another person or two to help with sound technician duties. Seann Jenner Decorating Report 2014 We have had a great year decorating our church sanctuary each Sunday and for special occasions. Many thanks to those who have come on deck to help when needed. I am looking forward to serving in this capacity for another year on behalf of the committee. I remain, Jackie Smith. 2014 Social Committee Report Funeral luncheons were prepared for Lois Davey (Geoff Craig’s mother) and for Muriel Richardson. Church luncheons were held to honour Florence Henry, to meet Doug Ford and family, Doug Ford’s Induction Service, our church Anniversary and after the Choir’s Sunday performance. Refreshments were served at Business meetings and after the Choir’s Saturday night performance. Thank you to the callers, Diane Bell and Nancy Cassibo, who canvassed for food, and also to everyone who donated food and helped in the kitchen. In His Service, Joan Irvine. 10 12. Music and Worship Report 2014 So much planning and preparation go into every worship service. Our sincere thanks go to our Pastors, guest speakers, music director, pianists, organists, bell ringers, guitarists, trumpeters, other musicians, worship leaders and teams, choir members, Scripture readers, helpers, sound technicians, video team, office administrator, power point operators, music and worship committee members, plus others who have assisted in the last year. We appreciate the time, skill, and dedication of each of these people who strive to lead us and help us worship our Lord and Savior. Charlotte Bell Christian Education Report 2014 Christian Education hit many crossroads in 2014. We saw our children and youth programs, events and numbers continue to dwindle, along with our volunteers, for the first 8 months of the year, and we became discouraged. God was clearly teaching us a lesson of patience and trust. Psalm 40 details the promises of what God can do when we wait patiently upon Him. “I waited patiently for the Lord; he turned to me and heard my cry....He set my feet on a rock and gave me a firm place to stand. He put a new song in my mouth....Blessed is the man who makes the Lord his trust.” CE is so very thankful that our Lord brought the Ford family to us at the end of August. Pastor Doug’s and Jenn’s strong love and desire to serve the Lord is clearly a witness to us all and the catalyst that was needed to get CE on the right track. Jesus states in Mark 8:34 that we must deny self and take up the cross. Pastor Doug had clearly demonstrated God’s leading and sold his successful painting business and home to pursue his theology degree for ministry. Instead, the Lord had other plans and we are blessed that he is our Pastor of Family Life. Pastor Doug represents practical current ideas for youth and family ministry at our CE meetings and in many discussions. His enthusiasm to win kids and others for Christ and connect them to the Gospel and make disciples is contagious. His fresh thoughtful approach to ministry is always received well at our meetings. 11 13. Our youth group immediately started up on Tuesday evenings after Doug arrived and includes a time to make intentional connections with their parents. Parents are never made to feel that we don’t care about them or feel like they are being rushed away. A few special events have been arranged, like movie night, at the Fords’ home, and two Ottawa trips, one to see the Christmas lights and the other Laser tag. Kids’ Church has been revamped and is going well with many volunteers. The children know the books of the New Testament and love reciting them. What a blessing to hear them! Presently they are working on the Lord’s Prayer. The youth were able to string outdoor Christmas lights on a tree donated by Norma Campbell. Thanks for all those who donated lights and to Doug’s Dad for the wooden nativity scene. A tasteful outdoor sign was also arranged and rented to advertise our special Christmas events. The kids’ Christmas concert was resurrected after a year’s lapse. It was well attended and an inspiration to us all. Exciting ideas and plans have been discussed at our CE meetings for the New Year, and Wednesday Family Night in 2015 will be spearheaded on January 14th for all age groups. Please pray for God’s leading as we continue to seek His direction. It would also be remiss not to acknowledge our heartfelt appreciation for all our dedicated volunteers. In closing, we give all praise and glory to God our Father for leading Doug to minister at First Baptist Church Smiths Falls, and look forward to 2015 as our CE team works together collaboratively. Peace and grace to all! David Bell 12 14. Keenagers Report 2014 Keenagers meet the second and fourth Tuesdays, 10 – 11 a.m. in the Ward Hall. This program for seniors has been well attended, averaging about 40 each time. The program has been advertised to other Smiths Falls churches and a few have started to come. Each session offers a Bible reading, prayers, refreshments, music and a speaker on topics of interest to our seniors. We have had local clergy, a lawyer, doctors, health care professionals, speakers with interesting hobbies and occasionally local musicians. The team members do a great job: Jim and Nancy Cassibo, Bernie and Angela Horley, Glen and Joan Irvine, Linda Stead, Terry Fagan, Marie Wilde, and Joyce Wills coordinate the setup, food and drives. We recently welcomed Barb Willows to our team. We want to thank Pastor David Stead for his help and encouragement and his technical expertise with the sound system. We also want to thank FBC for generously financially providing for us. Our seniors enjoy their time of fellowship in a stimulating environment. If you are free the second and fourth Tuesdays at 10, drop by and enjoy a friendly and warm experience. In His Service, Eric Wills. 13 15. Heritage Report for the Year 2014 Well here we are at another year end and we are not done sorting our history material YET!! This IS an unending project. Nancy spent several days in the heritage room sorting and filing old bulletins in the Spring and she left Donna many notes saying “don’t you dare touch” so she did what she was told. We are slow but sure! We value Marg’s contribution in identifying people in our photos from years past and hope to do more in this line in the coming year. Donna was busy setting out the articles and pictures for our Remembrance service and anniversary Service. We were pleased with the number of people checking out the tables of display in the Library. We were also happy to have some pictures of the ministry of Pastor Ron Watson and Marg on piano with Joan Elsby. It was good to visit with them on their return for this special service October 26th. We were pleased to also add Diane Bell to our list of 50 years plus members. We are happy to sort through and determine what is of value to the history of the church so don’t worry what you give us, we appreciate all donations. 14 16. Love and blessings from the past, the present and the future congregations of First Baptist Church Smiths Falls. Heritage Committee: Nancy Ferguson, Donna Copp and Margaret Hart Library Report for 2014 Budget for books, DVDs, CD's $2,000.00 Reading Contest $125.00 Celebrating 30 years as of Sept. 2014 Jan. 2014 This is the month of “weeding out” old books, unused books, etc., dusting all the shelves and getting the library ready for another year. Feb. 2014 February Library Month. New books were displayed with the invitation to everyone to use the library and for every item checked out, they would win a chance to win a $25 gift certificate. Hazel Robertson was the winner. May 2014 This was the 30th anniversary of the library and the 26th anniversary of the Book Fair. The Book Fair is always the last three Sundays of May and even though there were several other events running, books adopted totaled $1,384. Thank you everyone for your support. June 2014 The Summer Reading Program ran from June 1st to August 31st. The winners were: Non-readers William Schoular; Grades 1 & 2 Shaylin Kryvenchuk; Grades 5 & 6 Ella Ferguson; Grade 9 Emily Stead; Grade 10 Heather Stead; and Grade 12 Faith Stead. Congratulations to you all! Stats: There were 529 items borrowed during the Summer Reading Program, with 64 people using the library. Fourteen adults borrowed at least eight items with one borrowing 55! Thirteen children/young adults borrowed at least six items. 15 Oct. 2014 17. A sad e-mail came from Salem Bookstore that after 33 years of business they were closing the door in February 2015. Wow! So this brings a whole new dimension to getting new books, etc. that is still being researched, probably a mixture of on-line, Amazon, and bookstores. There is now a “librarian in training”. What an answer to prayer! Joan Schapansky has offered to begin the process of learning the ins and outs of the library with the goal of taking over the library in a few years (or sooner). Again I can't thank Janet James enough for all the years she has been putting the cards back in the books each week. She now also has a helper, Heather Chapman. And the “not so pleasant” job of chasing after the overdue items is still being handled by Betty Anne Small. Thank you so much. Also, thank you to all who use the library because if it wasn't used, there would be no point in having the library. If you are not a reader, you should really check out the DVDs. There are some great ones in the library. Donna Copp, Librarian Administrator’s Report for 2014 Every year just keeps getting better and better. Exciting new events, revamping recurring events, new staff and volunteers…Wow our God is amazing! With David’s computer knowledge, we were able to change my old hard-drive in the office to a faster more efficient model. We updated the email from Outlook to Thunderbird and created a new website for the church which between our staff, we update weekly with events, calendar, bulletin and sermons. Spring saw the church busy with events such as Proclamation Readings open to the public, Sunrise Service at the Old Chimney site, Good Friday Procession in town. We also welcomed Jacob Moon on Compassion Sunday. Summer we switched the bulletin format to reflect our downscaled church events. We were blessed to be involved with Susan and Andy McPhee’s wedding! Fall saw our sanctuary beautifully decorated for another wedding for Brent and Teneisha Allen, and the Induction service for my newest team member, Douglas Owen Ford and his entourage, Jenn, Arisa and Luke! 16 18. Winter and the Christmas season was a mixture of busyness, potlucks, extra services, family events here at the church and in our personal lives. For me, the bittersweet goodbye to my Mom in November but celebration of her first Christmas in Heaven with her family and beloved Saviour. “I don’t care what you donate of my body, but not my eyes…they are only fixed on my Lord”. (Her last words). Finally, I am so thankful for my church family, team members, David and Doug for their support, help, Wednesday 9am staff meetings, texts, etc. I’m looking forward to holding down this position to the best of my ability all for my Lord’s service! Jennifer Bell. Property Board Report for 2014 WOW!!!! Another year has gone by!! I want to start by thanking each member of the Property Board team for their hard work and dedication. I also want to thank our handyman, Dan Garvin, for his hard work behind the scene. We have had a busy year with many projects on the go. Some are completed and others are still in progress. The sidewalk leading to the main entrance has been cleaned and resealed. The Seniors Only parking signs have been installed. There have also been four new windows installed in the upstairs Sunday School wing. Your handyman and his wife have been busy fixing handrails, floor tiles (kitchen), ceiling tiles where needed, and pew shelves and pews. We have also tried to get a better handle on the keys, their number and who has them. An ongoing project is the retaining wall at the south end of the church. The other is the stain at the front of the sanctuary on the right side. If you have any concerns for Property, please submit them to us in writing. Our folder is in the office. Yours in Christ, Doug Bradford. 17 19. Audit Report The Deacons are in the process of hiring an accounting firm for a professional audit, and will provide the report on completion of the audit. Finance Report 2014 First Baptist Church Smiths Falls is transitioning well. As all are aware we have completed our continuance for charitable status and in that we now have updated bylaws. These new bylaws have provided changes for our Finance Committee. The Finance chair is now considered an officer of the church for banking purposes. In addition, the envelope steward and assistant envelope steward (and their spouses) can no longer perform teller duties. This presented a challenge for our teller coordinator Corinne but she surpassed all expectations. Thanks to a wonderful church family, many came forward to fill these positions. Thank you all and thanks be to God for leading us in his church. This year we were able to transfer $10,000 from our operating bank account into cashable GICs (4 for $2,500 each) which will earn favourable interest until required to meet ongoing expenses. It was also decided at a business meeting of the church (Dec 28th, 2014) that we are to notify Deacons when our bank account is low, at which time the Deacons may authorize cashing investment certificates but only if necessary. Every year we have budget challenges and God has consistently provided. He met our expenses and we ended the year with a net income of $4,464.46. We have included a sheet that summarizes the Treasurer's Report and a spreadsheet showing details on our investments. Our Finance team has worked diligently to meet any challenges. I want to thank every member of Finance for their dedication. A special thank you goes out to Joan Schapansky for all her hard work keeping us moving forward and organized for many years as assistant treasurer, secretary and many other duties . She will be missed by all. We would like to welcome Beatrice Hill as a new member of our team. God has given us a talented qualified person to help us navigate the finances of our church. 18 20. May we lift up all the members of our church and the members of our finance team to the Lord asking for His guidance and provision in 2015. "He who heeds the word wisely will find good, And whoever trusts in the Lord, happy is he" (or she). Proverbs 16:20 All on our Finance Committee are happy for we trust in the Lord!! Respectfully submitted by: Susan Cole, Finance Chair, First Baptist Church, Smiths Falls January 2015 Treasurer’s Report 2014 My report for the 2014 year end will include the Income Statement and the Balance Sheet which follow. Our financial year can be summarized as: Budgeted Income, including Interest of $5,481.25 $247,443.80 Total Expense $242,979.34 Leaving us with a Net Income of $ 4,464.46. Due to an oversight at CBOQ, a $100 interest amount was not sent to us until year end – too late to be deposited in 2014. Our Balance Statement shows we have $37,803.21 in our account. Of this amount, $17,681.87 is in “committed funds” or funds that are specified for other use. Centre Vie, for example, has a balance of $4,478.75 that will be sent in 2015, hopefully with much more. Respectfully submitted, Roger Ouellette, Treasurer 19 INDEX In Memoriam .............................................................. 1 Pastor David’s Annual Report ..................................... 2 Pastor of Family Life Annual Report ........................... 5 Deacon Report ............................................................ 6 Clerk’s Report ............................................................. 8 Mission Planning Team Report ................................... 9 Technical Report ....................................................... 10 Decorating Report ......................................................11 Social Committee Report ...........................................11 Music and Worship Report ....................................... 12 Christian Education Report ....................................... 12 Keenagers Report ..................................................... 14 Heritage Report ........................................................ 15 Library Report ........................................................... 16 Administrator’s Report ............................................. 17 Property Board Report ............................................. 18 Audit Report ............................................................. 19 Finance Report ......................................................... 19 Treasurer’s Report ................................................... 20 Investments Report ................................................. 21 Income Statement Summary ................................... 22 Income Statement ................................................... 23 Balance Sheet .......................................................... 26 Nominating Committee Report ............................... 29 20 21
