Overall Description
Students complete a field-by-field evaluation of the careers studied
in the previous three units.
 ELL low-intermediate and high-intermediate; CASAS range: 201-220
 Class Size: This activity can be done with any size class.
 Activity type: Integrating information + personal reflection
The students will complete three career evaluation sheets and discuss their answers with a
partner/small group. They’ll use both the documents and the discussion to decide how well their
experience and interests mesh with each of the careers.

Instructions
Set up!
1. No classroom set-up required.
2. Handouts: Career Evaluation Sheets
Sign on! (Presentation)
1. Show one of the Career Evaluation Sheets via projector, document camera, or recreate it on the
board. Ask students to read each question and define it. Use one of the three fields and a
student volunteer as a model. Ask each of the questions and record the answers.
Start up! (Practice)
1. Students complete all three Career Evaluation Sheets about themselves (in class or as
homework).
Sort through! (Feedback)
1. Students work in pairs or small groups to share their evaluation of the careers and their
possible next steps.
*Step out! (Extension)
1. Choose another career (possibly one covered in class or any career of interest) and fill out a
career evaluation sheet. Contact community resources (Occupational Class Coordinator,
calling a business of interest, college admissions office, etc.) to fill in any gaps.
2. Help a friend fill out the evaluation sheet for his/her current job and a job he/she would like to
have someday. Discuss next steps.
