Events and Marketing Manager
The Temple Music Foundation (TMF) promotes concerts and other musical events in the Temple,
just off the Strand in central London. It puts on about 16 events a year, a mixture of choral music,
solo song recitals, instrumental chamber music and other events, some of which are broadcast,
spread throughout the year (apart from August and September). The TMF works particularly
closely with the Temple Church Choir.
The Events and Marketing Manager is the first point of contact between members of the public and
the TMF and is the only member of the small TMF team who works from the Temple office in Inner
Temple on a daily basis. Working with and reporting to the Events and Finance Consultant and the
Development Consultant, the Events and Marketing Manager’s role includes marketing and print,
the website, event management, fundraising support, ticket sales, administration relating to board
meetings and general office duties. The Events and Marketing Manager will often be working in the
Temple office by themselves but communicating frequently during the day with the Events and
Finance Consultant and the Development Consultant, who often work outside the Temple.
In addition to its own concerts, the TMF manages the box office for a number of externallypromoted events within the Temple, for which there is modest additional remuneration.
Hours: Normal working hours are 9.30am to 5.30pm, Monday to Friday, plus evenings on event
days and on days when there are board or other occasional evening meetings. No overtime is paid.
Salary: In the region of £27,000 per annum.
Holiday: 25 days per year.
Pension : The Events and Marketing Manager will be enrolled automatically in a workplace
pension scheme to which the Foundation will contribute an amount equal to 15% of salary; the role
holder may contribute if they wish but they are not required to do so.
Specific responsibilities of the role:
Marketing
1. Distribution of concert information through various media to all known contacts and around the
Inns.
2. Development of the marketing strategy to extend the TMF’s reach, in particular building stronger
links with areas in the Inns and establishing further reciprocal marketing arrangements with
suitable groups and organisations further afield.
3. Writing, designing and printing brochures (in e-version and hard copy); designing and
printing posters and flyers; proof-reading all marketing materials.
4. Drafting and scheduling press releases to existing contacts and developing new press
relationships.

5. Writing e-shots for e-mailing list and Temple contacts.
6. Updating Facebook and Twitter.
Programmes
7. Collating material for programmes, including biographies and photographs, commissioning
programme notes and sourcing texts.
8. Ensuring advertising artwork is received according to print deadlines.
9. Designing and proof-reading the programmes and arranging for their printing.
Internet and website
10. Maintaining and editing the TMF website.
11. Updating and maintaining the e-mail database.
Fundraising
Donors, both individual and corporate, are essential to TMF. The role will require understanding
of the need to look after donor requirements and foster good relationships. Members of the
audience support groups (the Circles and Underwriters) also enjoy a special relationship with the
TMF. Working with the Development Consultant, the role holder will identify and nurture
potential new donor and circle members.
Box Office
Designing and printing tickets, processing telephone, postal and SagePay bookings and
refunds.
Creating weekly SagePay and postal booking reports for the Collector’s office.
Concerts/events
Booking venues and rehearsal spaces, booking and co-ordinating chairs, staging, lighting,
pew removal etc. as necessary for events.
Liaising with artist/music director as to their staging and lighting requirements.
Booking and co-ordinating delivery of hired instruments.
Assisting with concert management, including on-the-door ticket sales and volunteer staff.
Assisting with preparation and clearing of the venue, including laying out chairs and
ticketing seating areas.
Assisting with front of house and latecomers.
Delivering door and programme sales to the Collector’s office in Inner Temple.
Financial administration
Recording income received in sponsorship and donations and sending receipts to the
donors.
Arranging for sponsorship and ticket invoices to be sent by the Collector’s office

Organising meetings of the board as directed by the Chairman.
Minuting the board meetings.
General office duties
Dealing with telephone, e-mail and postal enquiries.
Undertaking general office administration.
Liaising with the Temple Church, Inner Temple and Middle Temple.
Providing administrative support to the Events and Finance Consultant and the
Development Consultant.
Maintaining office supplies.
Updating the postal mailing list database.
Essential qualifications for the role
Experience of MS Word and Excel.
Excellent attention to detail.
Good telephone manner.
Willingness to work afternoons, evenings, and very occasional Saturdays, when there are
concerts (c. 16 a year) or board meetings (c. 5 a year)
Desirable for the role
Experience of design work on a Mac.
Previous experience of events marketing and concert management and knowledge of
classical music.
