Workshop – NYOR A Marketing Bonanza!
Good numbers booked in already.
It was agreed that lunch will be a ‘working’ lunch with a 12.15pm start.

- Wheeler Centre speaker Michael Williams moved to slot just before question time.
- Adult literacy speaker (Kerrin Pryor, Victorian Adult Literacy and Basic Education Council
(VALBEC) committee) moved after the literacy project (Sue Barnard to speak).
- No questions in post-afternoon tea session to free up more time. Presenters in the
afternoon will have 20 minutes inclusive of questions.
William McInnes
Discussion about how firm the William McInnes booking is. Rosemary is reasonably
confident considering the communication. Will check with agent.
Hosts
Christina and Alison to organise hosting of the day and compere together.
Wrap-up to include:
Thank you for coming, Facebook page, evaluation forms, advance plug for full-day
seminar – ‘Save the Date’ and information about the LibMark Marketing Award

Technology
The Wheeler Centre provides a staff member who can assist with technology. Theary to
check any technological requirements.
Gifts for speakers – chocolate and wine
Susanne to send booking details to other
lists ALIA new grad, other ALIA lists etc.
Rosemary to contact the Reading Agency
to ask for details of the workshop to be
sent out to their list.
Suzanne to print off 100+ flyers
Facebook. Put new logo on the back and a
blurb about LibMark.

October seminar –
October Seminar – Evaluation
Suggested title: Demonstrating Value: Using your $3.56 effectively
Possible split of the day into bigger picture coverage in the morning and how-to in the
afternoon.
Presentations
- The shared leadership group presentation is confirmed.
- The ICT special interest group happy to be involved. Will speak on tools for evaluation –
What is available and how to utilise it? (Part of afternoon session)
- Discussion about a presentation on the Dollars and Cents report. Elisabeth Jackson and
John Murrell suggested as possible speakers. Would need to be tied into the theme.
- Fiona Emberton - Identifying your issues and cost-effective solutions. Suggested as a
speaker. Recently spoke at RFID seminar.
- Fidelma was going to talk to Genimaree about including the results-based accounting
system that Moreland has been using to evaluate the value of programs, etc.

Amanda to ask Shirley (Melbourne) about
speaking about Frontline.
Sue Flett to follow up on Fiona Emberton
Fidelma to pursue presentation of

Marketing Award -
Marketing Award
It was agreed the award should be promoted at the NYOR workshop.
Alison to put together a draft of the award
and conditions and circulate for comment
It was decided that the new structure of the marketing award should be - Library services Sharon to change certificate to ‘National
Year of Reading Marketing Award’
submit proposals for marketing campaign/programs.
The idea is that LibMark sponsors someone’s idea so they can develop the idea.
Discussion about whether the new award would need to be administered like a grant.

award prize being seen as a grant and any
likely issues that might ensue from that.

Agreed submitters should submit an outline budget with their proposal.

3.4
Logo
Discussion about Sharon’s designs for a new LibMark logo. Members agreed the second
logo of Sharon’s drafts was the preference but with an alteration to make the
speech/thinking bubble to look more like a speech bubble.
3.5
Committee Members Paying for Seminars
Historically members haven’t paid to attend seminars. Discussion about whether LibMark
members should pay.
Due to the large membership of this year’s committee, all members to pay.
It was suggested that members could pay 10% discount for future seminars.
Rosemary to ask Sharon if it’s possible to
alter the second logo idea slightly

Guest speakers at LibMark meetings
It was agreed to pursue having guest speakers at LibMark meetings
Suggestions for guest speakers
- Natalie Brown, Convenor of the PLVN Customer Service committee (LibMark is a
subcommittee of the Customer Service Committee). Oleshya said Natalie had expressed
interest in speaking to the group.
- Megan Rogers - Marketing manager from the State Library of Victoria (Leith has
approached Megan to speak at the committee)

Highlights from your library service
Rosemary – Williamstown Literary Festival. Great authors and buzz.
Suzanne - YPRL won a Management Initiative Award at the local government LGPro

Awards for its involvement in the Being the Best We Can library evaluation pilot.
Alison - Castlemaine literary festival great success. Talked about a particularly interesting
exhibition of ‘stuff’ found in returned in books. Would work well in Library and Information
Week as is perfect for the theme ‘We find stuff’.
Suzanne - Marketplace of Ideas at Yarra Plenty – This year’s Marketplace of Ideas is on
the topic of Transition Towns, dealing with climate change and peak oil issues.
4. Other Business
Beth asked other libraries’ experiences about letter box drops. Other library
representatives talked about value of being in the council publications. Letter box drops
can be expensive.
