JOB DESCRIPTION FOR NORTHWEST ARKANSAS REGIONAL AIRPORT AUTHORITY JOB TITLE: POLICE OFFICER REPORTS TO: SHIFT SUPERVISOR, PUBLIC SAFETY DIRECTOR OR AIRPORT DIRECTOR DEPARTMENT: POLICE DEPARTMENT JOB PURPOSE: Responsible for the prevention of crime, apprehension of criminals, direction of vehicular and pedestrian traffic, responding to the screening checkpoint and the general enforcement of laws and ordinances on an assigned shift. Work is performed in accordance with departmental rules and regulations and normally consists of patrol, preliminary investigations and traffic regulation duties that may be performed in cars or on foot. Work involves an element of personal danger, and officers must be able to act without direct supervision and exercise good judgment during a work shift. General and special instructions and work assignments are received from the shift supervisor, the law enforcement commander, the assistant airport director or the airport director. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Patrol the Airport on an assigned shift to preserve law and order, prevent and discover the commission of crime, direct traffic and to enforce motor vehicle operation and parking regulations. Investigates accidents and suspected criminal activity and makes required reports to be filed with appropriate agencies. Answers calls and complaints involving fire, automobile accidents, robberies and other misdemeanors and felonies, which present physical danger to the public and officer. Last updated August 2013 REQUIREMENTS: o o o o o o o o o o o o o o o o Must possess a high school diploma or G.E.D Must be 21 years of age Must be an American citizen Must be currently certified as a law enforcement officer under minimum standards for the State of Arkansas Must possess a valid State of Arkansas driver’s license No felony convictions No misdemeanor convictions for domestic battery Must qualify with department issued weapon Must pass drug screening Must possess previous experience with telephone or radio communications operations; or equivalent combination of experience and training that provides the following knowledge, abilities and skills Knowledge of and skill in the operations of telephone, radio and alarm communications equipment. Ability to learn the operation of computer terminals and related information systems equipment Ability to keep records in an organized manner Ability to work with the public in a courteous manner in response to complaints or requests for service Ability to understand/carry out or give oral and written instructions, including the ability to read and interpret simple plans and specifications Must be available to work shifts as required or assigned by the law enforcement commander SECURITY - Requires the ability to pass a security background check MENTAL - Requires normal attention PHYSICAL –Requires the ability to pass a medical screening, good physical condition and sufficient strength to do lifting and carrying as required ENVIRONMENTAL - Requires capability of performing essential job functions in a constantly changing environment and exposure to outdoor environments and all weather conditions MANUAL DEXTERITY - Requires using hands, arms and/or feet for performing essential job functions such as foot patrol, maintaining required equipment, using a portable radio, driving a vehicle and operating public safety equipment AUDIBLE - Requires ability to understand and follow oral instructions or instructions issued via the police radio VISUAL - Requires the ability to read documentation, perform inspections and drive a vehicle Last updated August 2013
