Student Scholarship Application Form
The California Higher Education Sustainability Conference is dedicated to ensuring that the conference is
accessible to all that want to attend. In addition to our student scholarship program, we also have a financial
assistance program for non-students.
Scholarships can cover registration and/or housing. Housing scholarships will only cover housing on campus
which can be booked through the conference. Transportation costs and per diems cannot be covered via this
program.
This scholarship program works on a “sliding scale” basis. We ask you to identify the amount that you can
afford to pay for registration and housing so that we can allocate funds where they are most needed and the
available scholarship money can be spread further. Selection is not based on how much you can contribute.
This program funds students who:
 Would not be able to attend the conference without a scholarship;
 Have made an effort to seek funding from at least one other source;
 Would benefit academically and/or in their career path by attending the conference;
 Will commit to sharing what they have learned with others in their campus/community; and
 Who is currently a student pursuing a degree, was a student pursuing a degree in Spring 2015, or will be
a student pursuing a degree in Fall 2015.
o If the applicant is pursuing a degree, but only taking a single class, we will count that person as
a student, however we ask that if you are only taking courses for professional or personal
development and/or recreation and not pursuing a degree that you do not count yourself as a
student for this program.
o Professional certificate programs do not count as “degrees” for the purpose of this program.
o If you require a fee waiver, but do not qualify as a student, please see our registration and/or
housing waiver form for non-students.
Under no circumstances will we accept “group” scholarship application forms. Each individual student seeking
a scholarship must fill out their own form completely and applications must be submitted by the student
applying.
Applications will be reviewed as they are received and so earlier submittal will increase your chances of
receiving a scholarship. To apply, please fill out this form and email to Katie Maynard, Event Manager,
kmaynard@geog.ucsb.edu. A decision will be made within two weeks of receipt of the application.
