DP1 Biology DESIGN Lab – Investigating one factor which will affect
the rate of photosynthesis of Canadian Pond Weed (Elodea Canadensis)
Introduction
The water plant Elodea Canadensis can be used for investigations into the rate of
photosynthesis as it is easily grown in a wide range of conditions, and when actively
photosynthesizing produces oxygen gas.
Task
Your task is to design an experiment to investigate one factor which may affect the rate of
photosynthesis of Elodea Canadensis. Your design will be assessed using the ‘IB Design’ rubric
which can be found below.
