Multimedia Courseware Design Proposal Name of Developer: 1. Scott Siri Date: _11-14-07__ Overview Program Title: Fire and Fury Grade or age level: High School Major Goal: Students will learn basics of volcanoes. Amount of Time to Learn the Content.: System Requirements: 2. Two class periods Microsoft Windows 2000 - XP SP2, 512M RAM, Internet Connection, Flash player 7.0, audio card, and speaker. (This is pure speculation.) Program Description Characteristics of Target Learners: Students will need basic computer literacy skills. The content. is intended for high school Earth Science students, typically freshmen with below average or average reading ability. They should have at least one quarter of Earth Science completed which would ideally include the concept of plate tectonics and convection currents. Students should also know the basic layers of the earth and the related vocabulary. Students need a basic understanding of physical science including the concepts of density, phase change and gas laws. Instructional objectives: 1. Students will be able to define and correctly use basic vocabulary pertinent to volcanism. 2. Students will be able to explain cause and effect relationships between continental drift and volcanoes. 3. Students will be able to identify and explain difference between major types of volcanoes, types of eruptions and types of lava. 4. Students will be able to identify measurements and methods that allow for volcanic prediction. 5. Students will be able to apply historical earth events to current day dangers and understand how history affects the way we prepare for future catastrophes. Additional Notes: Story Board #: V2 Story Board Name: Volcano Introduction Video Project Name: Fire and Fury Author: Scott Siri Date: 11-14-07 Text Outline: As video plays the narration recounts the powerful forces of volcanoes in history and statistics demonstrating this power. Narration then begins to pose simple questions as to the causes of volcanoes, the warnings of possible eruptions and the reasons for such variation in the behavior of these landmarks. Narration finishes with invitation to learn about the “Fire and Fury.” Rationale/Objective: This slide is intended to engage the learner using video. The narration also functions as a simple means to communicate the awesome power of volcanoes while raising some key questions that will be answered later in the lesson. Additional Notes: Story Board #:V3 Story Board Name: Instructions Project Name: Fire and Fury Author: Scott Siri Date: 11-14-07 Text Outline: Instructions will lay out the plan (direction and map) for the lesson and will direct the learner toward key navigational buttons. Students will be shown how to use the various navigational buttons. Home Button Next Button Prev. Button Help Button Students will learn to use vocabulary links. These links lead to explanation and images that help add meaning to otherwise new and difficult words. In order to make good use of the pages I intend that hovering over the words “Sequence of Lesson” and “Using Vocabulary Links” will cause the instructions to appear for reading. Another set of instructions for using the navigation at the bottom will be included. Rationale/Objective: This page will allow students to understand the structure of the lesson, navigational tools and the means by which to acquire help when necessary. Additional Notes: Story Board #: V4 Story Board Name: Basic Vocabulary Project Name: Fire and Fury Author: Scott Siri Date: 11-14-07 Text Outline: Definitions and Explanations of: Continental Drift Plate Tectonics Divergent/Convergent Boundaries.
