Wai Hou Oma Lodge is 25 minutes drive from Dargaville on State Highway 12 and about 3 hours drive
(220 kms) from Auckland Airport depending on traffic. We have a heli-pad on site.
We have two separate lodges. Both newly constructed and each sleeping 2 - 4 people.
There is also a delightful guest room in the main house with a private bathroom across the hall.
The lounge and kitchen are open for use.
A spa gazebo sitting on the lake's edge with ample decking and movable walls for privacy and
protection from inclement weather.
7 acres to wander over, all newly planted so is still rather open. Our lake has stunning reflections most
evenings and wild ducks, swans, noisey plovers, one grey heron, the odd shag and a family of pukeko
regularly call the place home.
The bedroom has been styled in light, warm furnishings, which include a king sized bed facing floor to
ceiling windows and doors, enabling an unimpeded view of our lake and all who live on it.

145 rooms Located on the shores of Lake Rotorua, next to cafes, restaurants and bars. 5 mins walk to
CBD, shopping, Convention Center and many of Rotorua's popular tourist attractions.
As the Rotorua tourism & hospitality market looks forward with excitement and optimism to a recordbreaking summer, the brand new Hotel Ibis Rotorua has announced it will be opening its doors on 1st
December 2004.
The 145 room, 3 star hotel is being built by locally owned and operated R & B Consultants Ltd, using
local builders and trades people and will be creating jobs for a further 35 staff when it opens. Accor
Hotels will manage the hotel as the Ibis Rotorua. It will join Ibis hotels in Auckland and Wellington and
will become part of a global network of over 650 hotels, located in the world’s most important business
and tourism centres.
Local entrepreneur Ray Cook of Rotorua Lakeside Resorts Ltd believes the Rotorua market is booming
and that the whole city will continue to enjoy increased demand from international and domestic tourists,
“The city has experienced a massive image change – we’ve certainly gone beyond the ”geyser and
mud” image, with the emphasis now on adventure and cultural tourism, sporting and recreational
facilities, quality foods and wines and the convenience of being so close to gateway cities such as
Auckland.”

TREKS is Rotorua’s brand-new purpose-built 130-bed backpackers, (opened August 2004). Plenty of
private parking available, and just a two-minute stroll to central city cafes, bars and shops. All beds are
made up, with a high proportion of double and twin rooms with ensuites. No bunks, and a maximum of
four beds in a share-room. Security is enhanced by our electronic key system, security cameras, and
guest safes. We offer a free booking service for the many Rotorua tourist activities. A family owned
and operated business, we are working at changing peoples’ perceptions about ‘backpackers’, offering
quality facilities at low hostel prices.
We have had considerable interest in our product. A Japanese publishing company iswriting an article
about us, because they believe our 'upmarket' backpackers will appeal to the Japanese market. We are
focusing on cleanliness, privacy and security. Our buildings are modern and stylish, and our designer
kitchens receive rave reviews from guests.

Kiwi Encounter is a unique kiwi conservation centre where visitors view “conservation in action” as
experienced, husbandry staff work in this dedicated hatchery and nursery where the kiwi chicks are
raised for ultimate release back into the wild. Take a 45 minute tour through this fascinating facility
which also includes a modern open plan kiwi nocturnal area and outdoor runs and ends in the fabulous
static display area where you will gain additional understanding of the complexities of these distinctive
birds, their current plight in the wild of New Zealand and how they have survived for so many million
years.
Kiwi Encounter presents an unique opportunity for the first time in NZ to see a kiwi conservation
programme in action. It is a special conservation centre where we incubate, hatch and raise kiwi chicks
for release back into the wild. Its a success story.

Esk River Wines are located in the heart of the Esk Valley, one of the original wine production areas of
the Hawke’s Bay. In addition to wine tasting we are proud to announce the development of three
different cooking workshops;
Hands on in the kitchen with Chef Pierre,
Demonstration classes around custom built kitchen counter including lunch or dinner,
Wine & Food matching classes
Chef Pierre Vuilleumier is well known in Hawke's Bay from his French Restaurant, Pierre sur le quai
which operated from 1993 - 2002 in Napier and won many Food awards and was featured in
international traveller guides as a recommended place to eat. Pierre has branched out into producing
many of his speciality items for customers to take home and offers the classes as a fun way to make
cooking more interesting at home and to take the panic out of entertaining. He offers menu classes,
themed classes and flavour matching sessions. Now located at Esk River Winery in the beautiful Esk
Valley, he has two kitchens built especially for the classes.

Backtracks offer a range of guided walks taking people off the beaten track and submerging them in the
lush Ruahine forest park. Because of the axial nature of the ranges great views can be taken in of both
sides of the lower North Island from Mt Egmount to Kapiti Island. Bonuses are the mighty Te Apiti
windmills, country cafes, and glow worm caves, also full lunch and snacks are provided.
Called BackTracks, Daniel’s one-man business works closely with the highly successful Palmerston
North- based Mountain Equipment store – a partnership that works well for both parties.
BackTracks is heavily focused on promoting conservation awareness while offering a stress-free
walking experience through the Ruahine Forest Park. Daniel says environmentally, the company has a
low impact rating from the Department of Conservation that awarded him a concession to explore the
forest.

Join us on our Wellington Wilderness Tour, get out of the city and into the bush, & also visit the rugged
Wainuiomata coast. See the contrasting nature of Wellington's geography. Our Lord of the Rings Tour
takes in a number of filming sites, as well as to Stansborough the weaving mill for the LOTR cloaks.
Hear some behind the scenes stories from our guide who was an 'extra' on LOTR. Includes morning tea
in the outdoors and a delicious cafe lunch. We can put together a private charter for groups of up to 18,
to a number of wilderness areas. Spectacular scenery & some 4WDing awaits!
Our Unimog was previously owned by 'Three Foot Six Ltd', Peter Jackson's film company, and used in
the filming of the 'Lord of the Rings' trilogy. We then purchased and modified it to the comfortable
vehicle it is today.
Wellington's unique geography means it is possible to access quite remote, wilderness areas within
relative proximity to the city.

in near by Whataroa. The okrito Lagoon is one of new Zealand's largest remaining wetland area with

Another interesting fact is that this huge house was chopped into five bits and transported from Nelson
to Richmond in 1988 - an interesting NZ phenomena - especially as the house is now historically
protected. It was apparently the first time such a large house was successfully moved.

We recently re-launched these tours with a regular schedule and pick up/drop off from central
Wellington
With over 18km of bush tracks and paths criss-crossing 250 hectares of regenerating forest, Karori
Wildlife Sanctuary is a world-first urban conservation attraction.
A predator-proof fence surrounds the Santuary and pest mammals have been removed providing a safe
haven for numerous rare and endangered native flora and fauna which are gradually being reintroduced, such as little spotted kiwi, saddleback and kaka. What is particularly special about the
sanctuary is that it is just minutes from downtown Wellington.
SANCTUARY BY NIGHT - a tour with a difference. You'll engage all your senses as you experience
the wonders of the Sanctuary at night. This 2 hour tour provides the opportunity to hear the dusk
chorus then then nocturnal birds come into life. Listen for the calls of kiwi, weka, and morepork, and
look out for little spotted kiwi at your feet. The well-developed trail passes two reservoirs, historical
buildings, a 'shag roost' tree and a wonderful view of native New Zealand glow-worms. If you're
overnighting in Wellington, this is the tour to do!
SANCTUARY ESCAPE - on this 2 hour tour you'll discover the beauty and serenity of our unique
sanctuary. An experienced guide will help you look for treasured native birds that we've released back
to this area. Get up close to a tree weta and learn about New Zealands's unique and interesting history
as you wander through regenerating forest. And NEW from January 2005 - a ride on an electric boat on
one of our scenic lakes will be included.
During the summer Sanctuary by Night operates 7 nights a week. During the winter 5 nights a week.
Tour times change regularly to coincide with dusk. Pick up and return offered during weekdays from
central Wellington.
Note: minimum age 12 years on this tour, 12-16 year olds must be accompanied by an adult.

Southern Land, Southern People is the icon gallery to the Otago Museum and links the Museum’s main
themes of nature and culture. The gallery explains the origins of our demanding landscape and
environment, how people discovered and explored it, how they utlilised its natural resources and how its
challenging nature rubbed off on the people in the form of ‘southern character’. It provides an exciting
introduction to Southern New Zealand for visitors from afar. A guided tour of the Southern Land,
Southern People gallery is an essential introduction or finale to any visit to Dunedin or any other part of
Southern New Zealand. Allow at least one hour for this fascinating experience.
