Africa Enterprise Challenge Fund (AECF) -- Research into Business
AECF-RIB invites for-profit companies in Africa and internationally to submit business ideas
based on agricultural research that will have a positive impact on the rural poor in Sub-Saharan
Africa. Successful applicants will receive grants and interest-free repayable grants up to a
maximum of US$1.5 million (for up to one-half of project costs). Three rounds of competition are
planned through April 2011. Applications for Round 1 must be submitted before 17 May 2010.

Asia-Pacific Network for Global Change Research (APN)
Grants for research and capacity building in two themes: (1) Ecosystems, biodiversity, and land

European Commission (EC), Food Security in Central African Republic
Call for proposals on agricultural productivity and markets, community social networks, and

International Foundation for Science
The IFS invites research concept notes from young scientists in Benin, Ghana, Mali, Nigeria, and
Senegal on the subject of neglected and underutilized species of plants for low-input agriculture.
Successful applicants will be invited to a grant-writing workshop to further develop their
proposals. Application deadline for the concept notes is 20 May 2010.

International Science, Technology, and Innovation Center for the South
ISTIC -- in collaboration with the Academy of Sciences for the Developing World -- invites case
studies of successful innovations in science and technology in developing countries. Thematic
areas are unrestricted. The best initial entries will be selected for a second round of competition
that offers monetary prizes to the three winning innovations. Applications are due 31 May 2010.

International Tropical Timber Organization
The ITTO announces calls for proposals in three thematic areas: (1) Community Forest

Toyota Motor Corporation
Toyota Environmental Activities Grants Program. Themes are biodiversity conservation and
counter measures to global warming in Japan and internationally. Open to applicants in Japan,

U.S. Department of State -- Bureau of Oceans, Environment, and Science
Grants to support field training on stopping the illegal trade of wildlife products from coral reef
ecosystems in the countries where the reefs are located. Open to NGOs, international
organizations, and universities (USA and international). Cost sharing is a requirement of a grant.

U.S. Department of State -- Embassy in Montenegro
The U.S. Embassy in Podgorica supports projects to raise environmental awareness in
Montenegro. Grants of up to US$30 thousand are available to NGOs and other qualified
organizations. Areas of interest are biodiversity conservation, waste and waste water, climate
change, coastal and inland waters, natural resource management, and youth education.

Australian Aid (AusAID) -- Leadership Awards
The Australian Leadership Awards support host organizations in Australia to invite professionals
from developing countries in partnership and linkage arrangements. Programmatic areas include
environment, food security, water, and others. Eligible countries are in Asia-Pacific, Latin America
and Caribbean, Africa, and the Middle East. The application period is 17 May through 25 June
2010.

European Commission, Delegation to Cameroon
Call for proposals to support Cameroon's banana producers with increased productivity, quality,

International Tree Foundation
Calls for projects in tree planting for poverty alleviation, biodiversity conservation, and
environmental justice. Current geographical priorities are Mali, Mauritania, northern Ethiopia,
Sudan, northern Ghana, northern Togo, Benin, Niger, Burkina Faso, Eritrea, Morocco, Tunisia,

Japan International Research Center for Agricultural Scientists (JIRCAS)
In 2010, JIRCAS will make awards of US$5 thousand each for up to three young agricultural
researchers who contribute to research and development in agriculture, forestry, fisheries and

Lindbergh Foundation
The Charles A. and Anne Morrow Lindbergh Foundation invite applications for the 2011 grants
cycle. Grants are in the amount of US$10,580 for research and education in agriculture,
conservation of natural resources, waste minimization, and other themes. Citizens of all countries
are eligible to apply. Applications must be mailed before 10 June 2010.

Organic Farming Research Organization
The OFRO announces grants for research, education, and outreach in the categories of organic
seed quality and crop breeding. The grants program is open to applicants from Canada, USA,
and Mexico. Grants are up to US$15 thousand per year. The closing date for applications is 02

Peoples Trust for Endangered Species
Call for applications from conservationists and researchers that aim for the preservation of
endangered species, either through research or practical field work. Applications for work in all
countries -- especially developing countries and the UK -- are welcomed. The next application

Presbyterian Hunger Program
Call for proposals from nonprofit organizations in the USA and internationally for projects that
provide food relief, development assistance, and improved public policy (among other goals) in
the fight against hunger. Activities in international development assistance include agricultural
production, livestock development, land rights, soil and water conservation, and others.
Maximum grant size is US$20 thousand. Applications (English or Spanish) are due before 30
June 2010.

Research Council of Norway, NORGLOBAL
NORGLOBAL announces three funding opportunities of international interest. (1) A call to
Norwegian scientists and partner institutions in the South for collaboration on themes of
globalization of the environment, energy, and climate change. (2) A call to Norwegian institutions
in cooperation with institutions in the South for projects focusing on women’s rights and gender
equality, including in issues of energy and natural resources. (3) A call to young scientists from
Norwegian institutions to apply for fellowships for work at the 15 centers of the Consultative
Group on International Agricultural Research. The application deadline for the three calls is 02

Siemenpuu invites Indonesian civil society organizations to apply for grants in its program for

United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) with L'Oreal
Corporate Foundation
UNESCO and L'Oreal co-sponsor Fellowships for Young Women in Life Sciences. A maximum
of three young women (under age 35), from each of five geo-cultural regions of the world, will be
awarded research grants in biology, biotechnology, agriculture, and other life sciences. Special
attention will be given to applications from the least-developed countries. Closing date for

U.S. Agency for International Development -- Agriculture in India
USAID-New Delhi calls for proposals to link agricultural universities and other institutions in the

The Foundation makes grants of up to US$5 thousand for bird protection on a worldwide basis.

U.S. Agency for International Development -- Agriculture in Senegal
USAID-Dakar invites proposals in relation to two programs for agriculture in Senegal. One
program focuses on agricultural development; the second supports capacity building for
agricultural education and research. Eligibility extends to U.S. and non-U.S. institutions,

Snow Leopard Network
The network makes grants for research and field projects to protect the snow leopard in its range
states of East Asia, South Asia, Central Asia, and Russia. Grants support the priorities of the
Snow Leopard Survival Strategy. Initial applications are submitted in August.

Weyerhaeuser Company Foundation
Weyerhaeuser makes grants in support of local communities where it operates, and also for
programs and projects in sustainable forests and other natural resources at national and

European Commission (EC), Competitiveness and Innovation Program
The EC calls for eco-innovation projects in materials recycling, sustainable building products, the
food and drink sector, and green business. The call is addressed particularly to small and
medium enterprises for co-funding the marketing of their eco-innovative products and services.
Eligible countries include the EU member states plus some non-EU countries including Albania,
Croatia, Israel, Macedonia, Montenegro, Serbia, and Turkey. Application deadline is 09
September 2010.

French Global Environment Facility
The French GEF invites proposals in its Small-Scale Initiatives Program to support projects in
biodiversity protection and climate change in West Africa, Central Africa, Mozambique, and
Madagascar. The program is open to NGOs and the private sector in eligible countries, and to
organizations from outside these countries that have sufficient experience and involvement.
International organizations can partner with local NGOs. The next application deadline is 15
September 2010.

MacArthur Foundation -- Albertine Rift
The John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation announces its next cycle of grants for
biodiversity conservation in the Albertine Rift to begin 2011. The region encompasses highland
forests in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo, western Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi, western
Tanzania, and northern Zambia. The area is known for its high biodiversity of birds, mammals,
and amphibians. Letters of inquiry (LOI) are due by 01 September 2010.

Panthera
Panthera makes grants for research and field conservation of the world's wild cats and their
habitats. Open to individuals and conservation organizations, with preference for applications
from the range states of Asia, Eurasia, Africa, and Latin America. Applications are invited twice
a year: 01 January through 01 March; and 01 July through 01 September.

Poweo Foundation Awards
The Poweo Foundation of France makes grants for small projects in renewable energy and
energy efficiency in Sub-Saharan Africa. In 2010, Poweo announces three Foundation prizes for
small energy enterprises and successful project initiatives. Each prize is worth 10 thousand

U.S. Agency for International Development
USAID supports public-private alliances for projects in food security and agriculture; disaster
preparedness; climate change, environment, and energy; water; and other themes. In 2010, the
Annual Program Statement for Global Development Alliances anticipates making 60 matching
grants. Eligibility is open to diverse organizations in the USA and internationally. Applicants work
with USAID's offices (missions) at the country level, and with certain Washington offices.

U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service -- Arctic Goose Joint Venture
The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) coordinates the Arctic Goose Joint Venture (AGJV)
for monitoring and research of Arctic goose populations. The scope of AGJV includes project
activities in the USA, Canada, Mexico, Russia, and possibly other countries. Applicants provide a
funding match of 1:1 with USFWS. Deadline for applications is 10 September 2010.

Asian Waterbirds Conservation Fund
The Fund supports the conservation of migratory waterbirds and their wetland habitats, as well as
projects which bring socio-economic benefits to local communities. Maximum grant size is US$4
