6th Grade Math Syllabus
Materials
Pencils, pens/colored pencils, Ti 30X IIB calculator, 2 green spirals, 4 green folders, textbook
Objectives
 Demonstrate and apply a knowledge and sense of numbers, including numerical and
operations, patterns, ratios, and proportions. (State Goal 6)
 Estimate, make and use measurements of objectives, quantities and relationships, and
determine acceptable levels of accuracy. (Sate Goal 7)
 Use algebraic and analytical methods to identify and describe patterns and relationships
in data, solve problems, and predict results. (state Goal 8)
 Use geometric methods to analyze, categorize, and draw conclusions about points, lines,
planes, and space. (State Goal 9)
 Collect, organize, and analyze data using statistical methods; predict results; and
interpret uncertainty using concepts of probability. (State Goal 10)
Academic Grade
90-100 A
80-89 B
70-79 C
60-69 D
< 60 F
Your Academic Grades are based on a point system. Tests/exams will be from 50-100 points,
quizzes will be from 10-30 points, projects will range from 10-50 points, and homework will be 5
point per assignment.
Conduct Grade
Your Conduct Grade will be based on your behavior. Any infraction that occurs for or against the
classroom rules will be considered in your conduct grade. The grading scale is the same as
Academic: A, B, C, D, and F.
Effort Grade
Your Effort Grade will be based on your participation, turning in homework and assignments on
time. The grading scale is the same as Academic: A, B, C, D, and F.
Homework Policy
Heritage will assign you an agenda. Make sure you use and carry it with you at all times.
Homework will be assigned on a daily basis. It is your responsibility to get the homework
written down in your agenda every day. Homework assignments will be due at the beginning of
class the next day. Refer to Homework Policy for more information.
Make-Up Work and Missing Assignment(s)
Assignments that were missed due to an absence must be made up. You are given the number of
days you were absent plus one extra day to turn in missing work. It is your responsibility to turn
in the missing work on time. If you are going to be absent because of a school related function or
disciplinary actions, the assignment is due on the original due date. No exceptions.
Tardy Policy
You are expected to be in your seats and ready to begin when the bell rings. All tardies, just like
absences, will be recorded. Once your third tardy is recorded, you will be given an after school
detention, or a referral for repeated offenders.
Rules and Procedures
Rules
1. Keep hands, feet, and objects to self.
2. No swearing, teasing, or fighting of any kind.
3. Immediately follow directions given by adults.
4. Do not leave class without permission and a pass.
5. Do not talk back to adults.
6. Be properly prepared and ready to learn each day.
7. No eating or chewing anything in class.
8. Only three tardies to class per quarter.
Consequences
1. Warning and explanation of the rule broken
2. Warning and stay after class
3. Detention
4. Office referral
5. Parent contact
*All are subject to change depending on the severity of the case.
Entering the classroom:
1. Enter the classroom and sit down in your assigned seat (if you must, sharpen your pencil).
2. Take out your binder with your three notebooks and open up your homework notebook for
checking.
3. Immediately begin working on the bell-work problems that will be on the board. Bell-work
problems must be done on your bell-work sheet.
During bell-work there will be no talking or any sort of communication, unless
permitted by Mr. Bronson.
Teacher Instruction:
1. When I am teaching, you must be quiet, listening, and paying attention.
2. You must not be working on any other assignment.
3. You may not blurt out anything to the teacher of any other student.
4. If you do have a question, quietly raise your hand and I will do my best to address your
question.
Participation:
1. If you have question, please think of it first and calmly raise your hand.
2. Wait patiently to be called on.
3. Use appropriate language at all times.
4. Please respect other students, rude comments of any kind directed towards another student
or me will not be tolerated.
5. If you are called on or if you volunteer to complete a problem at the board, please come up to
the board in a quiet fashion. Complete the problem and calmly take a seat. You must do this
without talking.
Sharpening Pencils:
1. Raise your hand with your pencil pointing to the sharpener. I will point or let you know that
you may sharpen your pencil.
2. Get out of your seat, sharpen it quickly, and sit back down. All done silently.
Getting out of your seat:
1. You need my permission to get out of your seat. You must raise your hand and wait
patiently to be called on. You must ask me politely.
Bathroom Procedures:
1. I will give you one bathroom pass at the beginning of each quarter.
2. You are responsible to bring it with you to class. If you forget to bring it, you may not use the
bathroom.
3. Any unused passes will count for extra credit at the end of each quarter.
4. Quietly and patiently raise your hand and I will either approach you or will come to me to
have the pass crossed off.
5. You may then quickly and quietly leave your seat and use the washroom.
Remember that you only have three passes per quarter. If you use another
student’s pass or abuse the bathroom privilege in any way you will lose your
bathroom privileges.
Tissue:
1. Raise two fingers or point to the tissue box.
2. Quietly and patiently wait for me to nod or point at you.
3. You may then quickly and quietly go and get tissue.
4. You may not socialize with anyone during this time.
Throwing litter away:
1. Throw away any litter you may have on the way out.
2. Do not tear, crumble, or fold paper. Throw it away as is.
Seeing another teacher or administrator during class:
1. You must have a pass from the teacher or administrator to leave class.
Taking a test/quiz:
1. You must remain silent during the test.
2. You must remain in your seat the entire period.
3. If you have a question, raise your hand and wait for me to call on you.
4. When finished, raise your hand and begin reading your AR book or do homework.
If caught talking you will be given one warning. After that, you will receive a 0
and a call home.
Borrowing pencils:
1. If you need to borrow and pencil or some paper from another student, politely ask others
around you by whispering. You must do this without disrupting the class.
When Speaking to others, and teachers:
1. Always use a calm voice (your inside voice)
2. Give eye contact, and quietly listen to what the other person has to say.
3. When speaking with an adult use an appropriate language and tone of voice.
4. Arguing with Mr. Bronson is strictly prohibited.
When Mr. Bronson needs your attention:
1. Stop what you are doing when you see me raise my hand or give attention to the class.
2. Without talking, give me your eye contact and full attention.
3. If need be, raise your hand. I will tell you when to put your hand down.
Calculator:
1. Each person is required to bring in their own calculator. I do have extra calculators that I
will lend out if need be for an assignment. If a calculator is not returned for any
reason, calculators will not be passed out until it has been returned.
Notes:
1. While taking notes, please copy exactly what I write on the board into your notes. Notes
must be taken in pencil.
2. Do not “doodle” in your notes.
3. Your notes will be periodically checked by me throughout the quarter and will be worth a
grade.
