ISOMETRIC DRAWING - BOX METHOD
Isometric drawing is one way to show your design ideas in pictorial view. It is useful to
give a three-dimensional view of an object. But an isometric drawing is different from what we
see. It looks distorted. This is because edges are drawn to the true size. When you look at an
object, the edges further away from you seem shorter.
NOTE:
 The vertical lines on the object are also vertical in the drawing.
 The horizontal lines on the object are at 30 from the horizon in the drawing.
 The lines which are parallel on the object are also parallel in the drawing.
 All the vertical and horizontal lines are drawn in true length.
 The inclined lines on the object are drawn by joining the two vertices in the drawing. (Not in
true length)
 Generally, hidden details are not shown in the drawing.
BOX METHOD OF MAKING ISOMETRIC DRAWING
1. Draw the 3 isometric axes.
2. Draw the isometric box according to the
overall dimensions.
3. Draw the details on each surface.
4. Draw other details.
5. Thicken the outlines.
6. Give the dimensions. (If necessary)
