CAT MUSCLES, CHECK LIST

AP II fall 2015
Welcome to AP II and the “cat lab.” Cat anatomy is very similar to and in most
ways identical to human anatomy. Please follow the 2211 manual written by Dr. Ely
implicitly. It covers everything you need to know and provides very explicit instructions
on how to carry out your dissection. Supplemental texts and resources are available if
requested. You will find a PDF file on cat dissection and anatomy on my SGC website.
You can also find online aids at our text’s website and by Googling “cat anatomy or cat
dissection.”
You will be working in groups of 3 or 4 classmates. You may choose your
partners, but I will assign partners if it becomes necessary. You will be grading each
other’s effort so make sure you put forth 100%.
Be careful with your dissections since the cat you start with will be the same one
you work on for the semester and will be the one on which you are tested. If you botch
something during dissection don’t panic! You are not graded on technique, but effort.
Perfection is not expected and in fact everyone including me will accidentally “nuke”
something.
Your cat grade will be counted as one exam. Cat practicals must be completed
no later than November 21. Early completion is strongly encouraged. Your cat practical
will be given by appointment only.
Grading:
1. 0-25 points on effort as determined by your lab partners
2. 0-75 points based on one-on-one practical with me. Questions may be name the
structure; find the structure I name, or functions of the organ system.
3. Total – max 100 points
