THE COPPER CORNER LIST #83
February-March-April 2016
“Something for Everyone”
18th Century “CONDER” TOKENS-------17TH Century tokens—19th Century tokens
Medals, medalets, unusual historical items---18th Century Provincial Tokens----------------------------------WELL FINALLY----The new edition of Dalton and Hamer is ready for sale, and is in the hands of Dean
Thomas, my partner and publisher. He will be doing the mailing for the standard edition. The Deluxe edition,
at this writing, is nearly sold out, 25 numbered copies, only a small number remain unsold. See further
information under “ books”.
However, bit of housekeeping. First, the book was completely vetted, but somehow something in the
introduction , just the last few pages of it, are not correctly paginated. It was being bound as we discovered
this, and had to let it go. Nothing major, just annoying since it was right at one time. The second piece of
information is that my hope for a leather bound deluxe edition went out the window. The price has better than
doubled, which would put the book, in my opinion, out of reach sensibly. Anyway, the prices will be found in
the book section, all the money to come in my direction if you please.
Standard edition $135 post paid. Deluxe $250 post paid
The new Addenda, in the above book, runs to 49 pages and was the reason why the book took so long to make
it to print. On page A-1 and A-2 you will find a list of the people who contributed to this issue with new finds,
additions, and corrections. As I saw most of the tokens in person, it was time consuming indeed, they were
vetted to make sure all were worthy of listing. I approved around 70% of all of the pieces that were sent to me,
and did some of the rest by photo on line. Computers can be wonderful, sometimes!!
At 49 pages the Addenda could be a book in itself. The contributors all have initials by their names in the
book, and those initials will also be found by the pieces they sent along for inclusion, to let you know who
found what, and possibly be of help to future cataloguers.
The British Token Congress convenes again at the Hilton Hotel, Northampton, England on 7-9 October 2016.
The organizer is John Newman, who may be contacted at johnnewman1@sky.com The medallion Congress,
organized by Andrew Wager, has not sent me a date, it is usually in July---but you may contact Andrew at
medallioncongress14@gmail.com and I urge all to consider a trip to the UK and to one of the Congress
venues. If you wish more information, or help with plans, contact me.
But, back to the list----This list will have a lot of really nice things in it, 18th C tokens in abundance, a good number of rarities and
unusual pieces, as well a nice selection of 17th and 19th century coppers. Some Unofficial Farthings join the
list, do not have many but have some interesting and really nice ones, and the 19th C silver tokens, of which
there are only a few, will be offered at a 20% discount, and all of them are quite nice pieces, some fairly hard
to find. So, scoop them up.
The Conder section contains some really nice material from Baldwin Basement II sale, and will be listed as
such. The sale probably had 50 or more tokens that are unique at the moment, and they sold for some very
large sums. It was not your usual sale. The catalogue called many of the tokens GEF, or choice UNC and
though some decidedly were that, some were not---but I have never seen a sale with more nice original pieces
in it, anywhere. This does not take away from other sales, I got nice things wherever I went!!
Enjoy the list, it awaits below---Bill

bottom it was 27c an ounce. The Pedley Ryan company, of Denver Colorado, decided to issue silver rounds
the size of silver dollars, at three for a dollar, to be redeemed at market price when the value went back up.
Colorado, being a mining state, was a prime candidate to buy these rounds. Seven different varieties are noted,
below are four of them. Two of them are quite rare. SCD book, Page 161. From my collection.
