[A copy of the Committee is enclosed – 1] Calendar of events was prepared in the beginning of the year [copy enclosed - 2] Action plan for the year 2010-11 has been designed. [Copy of the action plan enclosed -3] Achievments made during the year by the institution are summarized as under: 1. Induction Test and Orientation Programme for Part I students were conducted at the beginning of the academic year for fresh entrants. 2. First and Second tests were conducted, answer scripts were assessed and students’ performance has been communicated to the parents. Educationally disadvantaged students and weak students with poor performance in series of tests have been identified and remedial classes were arranged to improve their academic standards. Students with rich potentiality have been provided enrichment coaching to enable them to compete at national and international level and to stand at the global competition. Seminars, workshops, panel discussions and group discussions were conducted by different departments in classrooms on different topics including interdisciplinary topics in common auditorium hall, to motivate students so as to strengthen their presentation skills. The total number of seminars conducted during the year was 357. 4. Home Assignments are given and hints are given by the concerned teachers to improve the quality of performance in the examination. 5. Inter-disciplinary classes have been conducted by the departments of Economics, Sociology, History, Political Science and Commerce. The departments of Economics and Commerce jointly conducted debate on “BEST PRACTICES IN CASE STUDY METHOD OF TEACHING” 6. To promote academic ambience, to improve the Quality of students and to bring improvement in examination performance of students, following special measures have been undertaken: (Periods engaged) Bridge classes - 35. Health Check up and Awareness programme for Disabled Persons in association with District Disabled Rehabilitation Centre Belgaum [DDRC] and Health Department, Government of Karnataka. Educating rural mass and specially the rural youth for proper use of voting rights. Use of modern methods: Charts, Maps, Slide Show, LCD, Project Presentations, Exposure to the Nature, Exposure to Practical Work, Industry Linkage, Visit to Banks, Insurance, Transport, Visit to Market, Visit to Slum areas, ,etc., visits to forests and parks are given by different department to enrich students with in-depth knowledge on practical working of the system. 9. Group discussion: Students were trained on the techniques and importance of group discussions for promotion of employability in corporate world. Burning issues like Global Melt Down, Semester System, Personality issues, Global Warming, career opportunities in different sectors etc., were the topics taken up for seminars and discussions. 10. Excursions and Tours: a. Department of Botany arranged tour to Mysore, Ooti, and Ranganatittu for four days for B.Sc. III Students. b. Local excursion for B.Sc. I Botany students. c. Zoology department visited “EMMU park Gadhinglaj, Maharashtra d. Department of Chemistry arranged one tour to DKSSK Chikodi. e. Study tour to Warna Sugar Factory in Maharashtra by Commerce department. f. Visit to Sabarikolla of Ramdurga by B.Sc.VI sem. Botany & Zoology department to study flora fauna. g. P.G. Feed Back: Feed back from students on teachers performance is taken Topic wise feedback from students on teaching Feedback from students is also collected on various facilities provided on the campus like Library facility, Gymkhana, NCC, NSS, Placement Cell, Health Care Center, Hostel, Canteen, Students Grievances Cell, Drinking Water, Facility, Students- teacher relation, students-non-teaching staff relation, maintenance of campus etc. Feedback from Alumni: Alumni meeting is held once in a year and constructive suggestions are taken for further improvement. Unit of the college is active throughout the year. It undertakes a number of programs useful to students and institution in particular and the public in general. Annual special Camp for 7 days has been organized in nearby adopted village Kamtenatti. Awareness programmes and activities like plantation, roads, providing sanitary system, creating awareness on proper use of water, health check up, sanitation work, informal education on the importance of health and hygienic conditions for better life style were taken up. Creating greater awareness on legal and consumer rights was a part of the programme. 14. Our N.C.C unit consists of 100 cadets including 33 girl cadets. B. and C Certificate Examinations were taken by 45 cadets. The course has the potential to enhance employability of students and the course has been designed to fulfill job market expectations. B.B.A with the enhanced capacity of 80 students has been gaining good response from year to year. 4. Master of Commerce [M.Com] PG. program has been introduced from the academic year 2008 – 2009. Our PG Programme is affiliated to Karnatak University, Dharwad and the Previous Batch has been affiliated to Rani Channamma University, Belgaum. The students intake is 25 and all the seats have been filled. A request has been made to RCUB to increase the intake capacity to 40. 5. REACHING THE UNREACHED: [ MOU with IGNOU ] Indira Gandhi National Open University Study Centre was started in the year 2004. The study centre offers PG.Programs like M.A in English, Hindi, Political Science, Economics, Public Administration, Rural Development, M.Com. In addition to this number of Diploma and Certificate programs are also offered to students with a vision of Reaching the Unreached. Every year more then 50 students are taking the benefit of IGNOU programs. For the current academic year 57 students have been admitted for different programs including M.A. Hindi, 15 students and for M.A. English 10 students. Dr. S. B. KARNATAK STATE OPEN UNIVERSITY: [ MOU with KSOU] Karnataka State Open University Study Center has also been functioning since Juene, 2007. Every year 100 + students avail benefit of KSOU. Dr. M. T. Kurani, Department of Chemistry, has been working as Co-ordinator. 7. Innovations in curricular design and transaction: Curriculum Designing is the privilege of the affiliating university. Yet the college has put in efforts to contribute to curriculum development. Our college conducted the Rani Channamma University level Workshop for framing syllabi in Economics for UG Classes. The Department of Economics of our college organized the workshop. The syllabi have been adopted for the UG Classes beginning from 2011-12 and after. Apart from this, number of faculties and HODs actively participated in meetings of various subject- fora for framing/ recommending new curriculum/ syllabi. This has resulted in introduction of semester system in Karnataka University, Dharwad. Faculties were encouraged to participate in workshops / seminars/conferences on different subjects organized by different colleges and universities. Some of our staff members have taken feedback from students on syllabi and have submitted their views to the respective boards of studies. Some teachers have written to the boards of studies regarding the changes needed in the syllabi. We have organized workshops, seminars and discussions to enrich the curriculum. Details have been given in the subsequent pages. In-house training for B Com students in the Bank has enriched our curriculum. Intra-Collegiate and Inter-Collegiate Debate, Elocution and Quiz Competitions on various topics of General as well as specific interests have added richly to the prescribed curriculum. Our students have been actively participating in such activities. 8. Inter-disciplinary programs: Economics, Commerce, Sociology, Physics, Computer Science, BCA, Chemistry and biology departments arranged special joint-lectures. Examination Reforms: Periodical tests are conducted as part of internal evaluation system. Tests, assignments, projects, regular interactions, close supervision of poor students and remedial measures are undertaken to improve student performance at examinations. Periodical examination reports are preserved and communicated to parents. Parents were solicited to visit the college now and then to keep in regular touch with the college / concerned teachers and authorities. Reforming or restructuring of examination system is the privilege of the affiliating university. However, we conduct staff meetings to discuss the changes or reforms needed to improve the existing examination system. The suggestions have been communicated to the university. Students ate oriented to prepare regular examinations at par with competitive examinations, banking, insurancs and Railway recruitment and staff selection system. We organized a National Seminar on 23rd November, 2010 on “The Role of Commerce and Management Education in National Vision-2020”. Dr. B. R. Ananthan, Vice-Chancellor of Rani Channamma Unviersity, Belgaum, Shri. Dinesh Parekh of International Repute, President of Merchants Chamber, Mumbai, and Dr. S. S Patagundi, Registrar, Rani Channamma University were the chief Guests for inaugural and valedictory for the above event. An Orientation Programme was organized for enhancing the teaching skills of the temporary and Part time teachers of our college as well as KLE Society’s Engineering College. Workshop for Syllabi / Curriculum Designing: A Rani Channamma University Level Workshop for the teachers of Economics was held at our college in May, 2011. Our faculty members Dr A. P.
