PART – A
Internal Quality Advisory Committee was reformed in the beginning of the
academic year 2010-2011. [A copy of the Committee is enclosed – 1]
Calendar of events was prepared in the beginning of the year [copy enclosed - 2]
Action plan for the year 2010-11 has been designed.

Achievments made during the year by the institution are
summarized as under:
1. Induction Test and Orientation Programme for Part I students were conducted at
the beginning of the academic year for fresh entrants.
2. First and Second tests were conducted, answer scripts were assessed and
students’ performance has been communicated to the parents. Educationally
disadvantaged students and weak students with poor performance in series of
tests have been identified and remedial classes were arranged to improve their
academic standards.
Students with rich potentiality have been provided
enrichment coaching to enable them to compete at national and international
level and to stand at the global competition. As a result of additional coaching the
performance of students in the university semester examinations was found
satisfactory.

3. Seminars, workshops, panel discussions and group discussions were conducted
by different departments in classrooms on different topics including
interdisciplinary topics in common auditorium hall, to motivate students so as to
strengthen their presentation skills. The total number of seminars conducted
during the year was 357.
4. Home Assignments are given and hints are given by the concerned teachers to
improve the quality of performance in the examination.
5. Inter-disciplinary classes have been conducted by the departments of Economics,
Sociology, History, Political Science and Commerce.
The departments of
Economics and Commerce jointly conducted debate on “BEST PRACTICES IN CASE STUDY METHOD OF TEACHING”
6. To promote academic ambience, to improve the Quality of students and to bring
improvement in examination performance of students, following special

These classes have been conducted by departments of Mathematics, Physics,

7. Research Projects for students: The object is to develop a research culture
among students community. Many Departments of college like BBA, BCA,
M.Com and others have undertaken 245 Student Research projects. These research
projects are given to students in addition to regular studies. Some of them are :
a. Department of Botany: 1. Sugarcane cultivation all along the banks of
the Krishna river of Chikodi area
b. Department of Zoology 1. Survey of birds around Gokak

Extension Programs
Following extension activities have been continued from the previous years:
 Orientation of village people on Right to Information Act.
 Back to School Campaign: Bringing dropouts - Primary School
Students back to classrooms.
 Helping Senior Citizens in getting old age pension from Govt.
( About 50 old age pensioners have been supported to get pensions
sanctioned from revenue dept for senior citizens from
adopted village.)
 Creating mass awareness on the importance of breast feeding and
health care.
 Mass awareness programme on “Optimum Use of Water” &
Maximization of Water Table” in association with Ministry of Water
Management. Government of India.
 Mass Awareness on “Importance of Girl Child and Prevention of
Female Feoitecide” in Association with FPAI Belgaum Br. & Red
Cross Society of India.
 Health Check up and Awareness programme for Disabled Persons in
association with District Disabled Rehabilitation Centre Belgaum
[DDRC] and Health Department, Government of Karnataka.
 Educating rural mass and specially the rural youth for proper use of
voting rights.
 Aids Awareness Day as a preventive measure
 Entrepreneurship

8. Use of modern methods:
Charts, Maps, Slide Show, LCD, Project Presentations, Exposure to the Nature,
Exposure to Practical Work, Industry Linkage, Visit to Banks, Insurance,
Transport, Visit to Market, Visit to Slum areas, ,etc., visits to forests and parks are
given by different department to enrich students with in-depth knowledge on
practical working of the system.
9. Group discussion: Students were trained on the techniques and importance of
group discussions for promotion of employability in corporate world. Burning
issues like Global Melt Down, Semester System, Personality issues, Global
Warming, career opportunities in different sectors etc., were the topics taken up
for seminars and discussions.
10. Excursions and Tours:
a. Department of Botany arranged tour to Mysore, Ooti, and Ranganatittu for
four days for B.Sc. III Students.
b.
Local excursion for B.Sc. I Botany students.
c. Zoology department visited “EMMU park Gadhinglaj, Maharashtra
d. Department of Chemistry arranged one tour to DKSSK Chikodi.
e. Study tour to Warna Sugar Factory in Maharashtra by Commerce
department.
f. Visit to Sabarikolla of Ramdurga by B.Sc.VI sem. Botany & Zoology
department to study flora fauna.
g. P.G. Department of Commerce arranged a study tour to Navi Mumbai,
visited Dhirubhai Ambani Knowledge City and other industries and small
scale units in Navi Mumbai.

 Feed back from students on teachers performance is taken
 Topic wise feedback from students on teaching
 Feedback from students is also collected on various facilities provided on the
campus like Library facility, Gymkhana, NCC, NSS, Placement Cell, Health
Care Center, Hostel, Canteen, Students Grievances Cell, Drinking Water,
Facility, Students- teacher relation, students-non-teaching staff relation,
maintenance of campus etc.
 Feedback from Alumni: Alumni meeting is held once in a year and
constructive suggestions are taken for further improvement.
 Feedback from parents is collected in furthering the students support activities
and public relations.
 Feedback from parents is taken in Parents-Teachers Association Meetings
13. N.S.S. Unit of the college is active throughout the year. It undertakes a number
of programs useful to students and institution in particular and the public in general.
Annual special Camp for 7 days has been organized in nearby adopted village
Kamtenatti. Awareness programmes and activities like plantation, roads, providing
sanitary system, creating awareness on proper use of water, health check up,
sanitation work, informal education on the importance of health and hygienic
conditions for better life style were taken up. Creating greater awareness on legal
and consumer rights was a part of the programme.
14. Our N.C.C unit consists of 100 cadets including 33 girl cadets. B. and C Certificate
Examinations were taken by 45 cadets. (Of them 04 candets appeared for “C”
Certificate exams.)

1. To fulfill these goals and objectives various academic programs have been
initiated.
Certificate Programme / Course in Spoken English has been introduced with
UGC support. The course has the potential to enhance employability of
students and the course has been designed to fulfill job market expectations.
In line with our vision, mission, goals and objectives following programmes
are offered to our students.

students are girl students.

3. B.B.A with the enhanced capacity of 80 students has been gaining good
response from year to year.
4. Master of Commerce [M.Com] PG. program has been introduced from the
academic year 2008 – 2009. Our PG Programme is affiliated to Karnatak
University, Dharwad and the Previous Batch has been affiliated to Rani
Channamma University, Belgaum. The students intake is 25 and all the seats
have
been filled. A request has been made to RCUB to increase the intake
capacity to 40.
5. REACHING THE UNREACHED: [ MOU with IGNOU ]
Indira Gandhi National Open University Study Centre was started in the
year 2004. The study centre offers PG.Programs like M.A in English, Hindi,
Political Science, Economics, Public Administration, Rural Development,
M.Com. In addition to this number of Diploma and Certificate programs are also
offered to students with a vision of Reaching the Unreached. Every year more
then 50 students are taking the benefit of IGNOU programs. For the current
academic year 57 students have been admitted for different programs including
M.A. Hindi, 15 students and for M.A. English 10 students. Dr. S. B. Hagaragi is
working as coordinator.

KARNATAK STATE OPEN UNIVERSITY: [ MOU with KSOU]
Karnataka State Open University Study Center has also been functioning since
Juene, 2007. Every year 100 + students avail benefit of KSOU.

Kurani, Department of Chemistry, has been working as Co-ordinator.
7. Innovations in curricular design and transaction:
Curriculum Designing is the privilege of the affiliating university. Yet the
college has put in efforts to contribute to curriculum development.
Our college conducted the Rani Channamma University level Workshop for
framing syllabi in Economics for UG Classes. The Department of Economics of
our college organized the workshop. The syllabi have been adopted for the UG
Classes beginning from 2011-12 and after.
Apart from this, number of faculties and HODs actively participated in meetings
of various subject- fora for framing/ recommending new curriculum/ syllabi. This
has resulted in introduction of semester system in Karnataka University, Dharwad.
Faculties were encouraged to participate in workshops / seminars/conferences on
different subjects organized by different colleges and universities.
Some of our staff members have taken feedback from students on syllabi and have
submitted their views to the respective boards of studies. Some teachers have
written to the boards of studies regarding the changes needed in the syllabi.
We have organized workshops, seminars and discussions to enrich the curriculum.
Details have been given in the subsequent pages.
In-house training for B Com students in the Bank has enriched our curriculum.
Intra-Collegiate and Inter-Collegiate Debate, Elocution and Quiz Competitions on
various topics of General as well as specific interests have added richly to the
prescribed curriculum. Our students have been actively participating in such
activities.
8. Inter-disciplinary programs: Economics, Commerce, Sociology, Physics,
Computer Science, BCA, Chemistry and biology departments arranged special
joint-lectures. Professional experts from
different walks of life visited the
college to address the and enrich the knowledge of our students on current issues.

Examination Reforms:
Periodical tests are conducted as part of
internal evaluation system. Tests, assignments, projects, regular interactions, close
supervision of poor students and remedial measures are undertaken to improve
student performance at examinations. Periodical examination reports are
preserved and communicated to parents. Parents were solicited to visit the college
now and then to keep in regular touch with the college / concerned teachers and
authorities.
Reforming or restructuring of examination system is the privilege of the
affiliating university. However, we conduct staff meetings to discuss the
changes or reforms needed to improve the existing examination system. The
suggestions have been communicated to the university. Students ate oriented to
prepare regular examinations at par with competitive examinations, banking,
insurancs and Railway recruitment and staff selection system. Develop the skills

Initiatives towards faculty improvement programme.
 We organized a National Seminar on 23rd November, 2010 on “The Role of
Commerce and Management Education in National Vision-2020”.
 Dr. B. R. Ananthan, Vice-Chancellor of Rani Channamma Unviersity,
Belgaum, Shri. Dinesh Parekh of International Repute, President of Merchants
Chamber, Mumbai, and Dr. S. S Patagundi, Registrar, Rani Channamma
University were the chief Guests for inaugural and valedictory for the above
event.
 An Orientation Programme was organized for enhancing the teaching skills of
the temporary and Part time teachers of our college as well as KLE Society’s
Engineering College. Dr Basavaraj Katageri, Pricipal, KLE Society’s College of
Engineering and Technology was the Resource Person.
 Workshop for Syllabi / Curriculum Designing: A Rani Channamma
University Level Workshop for the teachers of Economics was held at our
college in May, 2011. Our faculty members Dr A. P. Biradarpatil and Prof. J. S.
Barangiyavar took lead in organizing the workshop. The syllabi for BA Part I, II
and III were framed and submitted to the University for approval.

 Our UGC Funded Women’s Study Centre has been active in organizing various
activities to instill confidence and courage in the women who are pursuing higher
education.
 All students have access to computer and internet facility. Our motto is 100%
computer literacy. Computer Department acts as facilitator for other depts.

motivate & strengthen research culture. Potential referees, editors and writers have been
contacted and formalities are on to launch the journal.

Seminars / Student Development Activities ( Student Centered Activities): Almost all
the departments have conducted class seminars/ remedial/ Bridge/ Enrichment classes
along with regular teaching in the respective subjects: Every student is motivated to
prepare seminar paper on assigned topic and present
the same in the class room.
This promotes the presentation skills along with higher level of learning on the
subject.

 Industrial Visits: The PG Department of Commerce and Management organized an
Industrial Visit to Mumbai in the first week of February, 2011.
Dr S B Hagargi and Prof B. S. Mali accompanied 22 M.Com Students, of whom 12
were girl students. The team interacted with Shri. Dinesh Parekh, an internationally
reputed entrepreneur of Mumbai. His expertise as the presidents of Mumbai Merchants
Chamber enriched the knowledge and instilled passion in our students. The team also
visited Dhirubai Amabani Knowledge City and its Call Centre and also visited a number
of small scale industries.
Student Participation in academic and spiritual development activities
 Miss Himabindu Etagoni presented a paper in an Inter-University Paper
Presentation Competition held at Lingaraj College, Belgaum.
 Our BA and B.Com students participated in the Youth Convention held at
Ramakrishna Mission Ashrama, Belgaum in February, 2011. They also
participated in a national level spiritual programme in the same place.
 Miss Pooja Shirsangi and Miss Himabindu Etagoni presented papers in Intercollegiate seminars.
 A UGC funded Career Oriented Programme in Spoken English has been
conducted to promote language skills. One batch of 30 students has completed the
Certificate Course in Spoken English.
316 hours of Bridge Classes in different subjects have been conducted for fresh
students.

i) NCC and NSS students assist the physically challenged people to attend health
check up camps and assist them in getting Physical Disability Certificates at
Govt. Hospital, Chikodi.
ii) Aids Awareness Programs: NSS and NCC units, along with other students,
contributed towards creating awareness on Aids Prevention programmes.
iii) Cancer awareness programmes among rural mass by visiting nearby villages.
iv) SARVA SIKSHA ABHIYAN: NSS Volunteers, along with other students
from rural areas, are involved in a Scheme “BALE, MARALI BAA
SHALEGE”. Dropout Girl children in villages are persuaded to come back to
school.

Channamma Unviersity, Belagavi to which our college is affiliated. Merit
certificates of this college are issued to the meritorious and outstanding students in
Co-curricular activities (sports, literary and cultural activities) every year on annual
prize distribution function.
Certificate programme in Yoga and Tally have been offered to students.
 Computer literacy programme is organized for non-teaching staff.

The staff of this college has formed a fund of Rs 2, 50,000=00 and has been deposited
in the State Bank of India. The Interest accrued has been distributed to the meritorious
students of the college. This year 14 students have received a thousand rupees each. The
same was offered on the occasion of the Annual Day Celebration.

Runner up in 4th.Zonal level of Kabaddi tournament of Karnatak University, Dharwad on
10th.March 2010. Shri.Vasant Gonde of B.A.-I, 4th place in 1500 mtrs. running of KUD
Athletics meet held at BLD’s ASP Collge, Bijapur on 28, 29,30 & 31 Oct. 2010. Miss
Chetana Kavatkoppa of B.Sc. II won 4th place in 400 mtrs for women and Sushma Vaidu
of B.A.II, Pooja Tavanakki of B.Com – I, Kum.Lalita Shinde of B.Com – I participated in
Athletic held at BLD’s ASP Collge, Bijapur on 28, 29,30 & 31 Oct. 2010.
34. Incentives to Outstanding sports persons:
As students come from rural areas, all efforts are made to encourage students
to participate in sports. Following incentives are given to the participtns
1. Uniforms, kits costumes are provided.
2. Blazers are provided to university level players.
3. T.A. and D.A. are given to the sports men and women who participate in
sports events.
35. Students Achievements and Awards: Student achievers are felicitated in various
functions and honoured by giving prizes. Prize winners of Athletic Meet, Indoor Games,
Championship of the Annual Athletic Meet, Prize winners of various cultural, Literary
and fine arts competitions are given away prizes on the occasion of the Annual Day
Celebration.

36. Activities of the Guidance and Counseling unit.

967 new titles have been made available for the purpose of Career guidance. Books
are issued to students for reading and all-round development of personality.
b.
Spoken English Classes were organized for enhancing the employability of our
students. About 40 of the students joined the Certificate Course in Spoken English
and many of them have completed the course.

Placement Services provided to Students:
Prof M. M Nargund is in charge of the placement cell. Our students attended the
Campus Interview at P. C Jabin Science College, Hubli and at Shivanand College,
Kagwad.
14 students attended In-plant training for entrance test conducted by Infosys at
Karnatak
College, Dharwad Some of our students have been selected for
Nationalized Banks. Miss Annapurna Sankeshwari is working with the SBI,
Chikodi.

All Non- teaching staff members were deputed for computer training and orientation
programme for automation of office work.

KLES, JNMC – UMKC Women’s and Children Health Research Unit,
Regional Research Center was opened on 14th June 2005 at B.K.College,
Chikodi. The Regional Center co-ordinates the implementation of the project at
the following Primary Health centers of Chikodi, Raibag, and Athani Talukas:
Ankali, Karadaga, Khadaklat, Kargaon, Chinchali, Kagawad and Mangasuli. It
will also function as Regional data Entry and Transmission Center.
This Regional Research center was inaugurated by Shri. Mahantesh M.
Kavatagimath, Member, Board of Managemewnt, K.L.E.Society, Belgaum It
was presided by Shri.Prabhakar B.Kore Chairman, Board of Mangement,

IQAC PLAN OF ACTION 2010-2011
IQAC meeting was held on 15st July 2010 at 3.30 pm in the IQAC
room
to review the progress of works under progress and discuss the
activities to be executed during the year as per the pre scheduled plan of
action and also in the light of changed guidelines from university under
semester system for the year 2010 – 2011.
After discussion, it was decided to collect plan of action from each
department and consolidate the plan of action for the institution. All heads
of department are requested to submit departmental plan of action and other
details on or before 25th.July 2010 to Dr. S.B. Hagaragi Co-ordinator, IQAC.
