Requirement
Source/Rationale
Power Control Components
(a) AC electrical switchgear shall comply with the following standards or an
equivalent standard, as applicable:
(i)
CSA 22.2 No. 31 Switchgear Assemblies;
(ii)
EEMAC G-8-2 Switchgear Assemblies;
(iii) ANSI C37 Power Switch Gear;
(iv) NEMA DG4 High Voltage Power Circuit Breakers;
(v)
NEMA SG5 Power Switchgear Assemblies;
(vi) NEMA SG6 Power Switching Equipment;
(vii) NEMA SG3 Low Voltage Circuit Breakers, and
(viii) CSA C233 Non-Linear Resistor (Valve) Type Lightening Arrestors for
Alternating Current Systems.
(b) DC electrical switchgear shall comply with the followings standards or an
equivalent standard, as applicable:
(i)
CSA C9-M Dry Type Transformers;
(ii) CSA 22.2 No.31 Switchgear Assemblies;
(iii) ANSI C37 Power Switchgear;
(iv) NEMA SG3 Low-Voltage Circuit Breakers;
(v)
NEMA SG5 Power Switchgear Assemblies, and
(vi) NEMA SG6 Power Switching Equipment.
(c) Transformers rectifiers shall comply with the following standards or an equivalent
standard, as applicable:
(i)
ANSI/IEEE C57.12.01 IEEE Standard General Requirements for Dry-Type
Distribution and Power Transformers Including those with Solid Cast and/or
Encapsulated Windings;
(ii)
NEMA TR-1 Transforms, Regulators and Reactors ;
(iii) CSA C9-M Dry Type Transformers;
(iv) NEMA R19 Silicon Rectifiers Units for Transportation Power Supplies;

(v)
(vi)
ANSI C34.2 Practice and Requirements for Semiconductor Power Rectifiers,
and
IEEE No.59 Semiconductor Rectifier Equipment.
5.4.2
Power Supply
(a) Battery power systems shall comply with the following standards or an equivalent
standard, as applicable:
(i)
IEEE Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers requirements, and
(ii)
NEMA National Electronic Manufacturers Association requirements.
(b) Power transformers shall comply with the following standards or an equivalent
standard, as applicable:
(i)
IEEE C57.12.01 IEEE Standards Requirements for Dry-Type Distribution and
Power Transformers Including those Solid Cast and/or Resin Encapsulated
Windings;
(ii) ANSI/IEEE C57.12.50 IEEE Requirements for Ventilated Dry-Type Distribution
Transformers;
(iii) ANSI/IEEE C57.12.91 Test Code for Dry-Type Distribution and Power
Transformers
(iv) CSA C9-M Dry-Type Transformers, and
(v) NEMA TR1 Transformers, Regulators and Reactors.

5.4.3
Switches
(a) Power disconnect switches and transfer switches shall comply with the following
standards or an equivalent standard, as applicable:
(i)
CSA Standards, Canadian Electrical Code and BC Amendments
requirements;
(ii) National Electrical Manufacturers Association requirements;
(iii) National Fire Protection Association requirements, and
(iv) Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers requirements.

5.4.4
Fixed Installations and Equipment
(a) Electrical fixed installations shall comply with the following standards or an
equivalent standard, as applicable:
(i)
CSA Standards and BC Amendments and ANSI Standards requirements;
(ii)
EN 50122-1 Railway Applications – Fixed Installations Part 1 Protective
Provisions Relating to Electrical Earthing and Safety;
(iii)
Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers requirements, and
Standards for the construction of the Canada Line
electrical systems.

(iv)
National Electrical Manufacturers Association requirements.
(b) Standby generators shall comply with the following standards or an equivalent
standard, as applicable:
(i)
Canadian Standards Association, Canadian Electrical Code and BC
Amendments requirements;
(ii)
Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers requirements;
(iii)
National Electrical Manufacturers Association requirements, and
(iv)
ANSI/NEMA MG1-2003 and ISO 8528-5 requirements.
(c) Power rails shall comply with ISO 9001-2000 standards or an equivalent standard,
as applicable.
(d) Electrical stingers shall comply with or ASTM Designation D229 All NEMA and
IEE Standards Rigid Sheet and Plate Materials Used for Electrical Insulation an
equivalent standard, as applicable.
(e) Utility power supplies shall comply with ANSI.NEMA and IEE Standards,
CSA Electrical Code and BC Amendments or an equivalent standard, as
applicable.
(f) Blue light and SCADA interface panels shall comply with the following standards
or an equivalent standard, as applicable:
(i)
ASTM Designation D229, All applicable EEMAC, NEMA and IEEE
Standards;
(ii)
Canadian Electrical Code Part 1, CAN/CSA-G40.21-M, Structural Quality
Steels;
(iii)
CSA W59-M1989, Welded Steel Construction;
(iv)
CAN/CSA -16.1-94, Limit States Design of Steel Structures;
(v)
ASTN A370 Standard Specification for Carbon Steel Bolts and Studs,
60,000 PSI Tensile Strength, and
(vi)
ASTM A153 Standard Specification for Zinc Coating (Hot Dip) on Iron and
Steel Hardware.
(g) Electrical track switch heaters shall comply with the following standards or an
equivalent standard, as applicable:
(i)
Canadian Electrical Code and BC Amendments requirements;
(ii)
AMSI Standards requirements, and
(iii) IEEE, Standards, and NEMA Standards requirements.
(h) Electrical power distribution centers shall comply with the following standards or an
equivalent standard, as applicable:
(i)
Canadian Electrical Code and BC Amendments requirements;
(ii) AMSI Standards requirements;
(iii) IEEE, Standards requirements, and
(iv) NEMA Standards requirements.

Electrical Wires, Fittings and Grounding
(a) Electrical wires and cables shall comply with the following standards or an
equivalent standard, as applicable:
(i)
Canadian Electrical Code and BC Amendments requirements;
(ii) ANSI Standards requirements;
(iii) IEEE Standards requirements;
(iv) EMA Standards requirements, and
(v) National Fire Protection Act NFPA 130 requirements.
(b) Electrical-station grounding shall comply with the CAS Standards or an equivalent
standard, as applicable:
(c) Electrical fittings shall comply with the following standards or an equivalent
standard, as applicable:
(i)
Canadian Electrical Code with BC Amendments, Conduit: Rigid Threaded,
Galvanized Steel or Electrical Metallic Tubing;
(ii) IEEE Standard -80 CAN/CSA C22.2 No. 45-M, Rigid Metal Conduit;
(iii) CAN/CSA C22.2 No. 53, Electrical Metallic Tubing;
(iv) CAN/CSA C22.2 No. 83, Couplings: rigid threaded galvanized steel, set
screw and liquid tight;
(v) CAN/CSA C22.2 No. 136-1996, Couplings: rigid threaded galvanized steel,
set screw and liquid tight;
(vi) CSA/Can C22.2 No. 136-1966, Flexible Conduit: steel amour , flexible plastic
jacket with liquid tight connectors conforming to CSA/Can C22.2 No. 56;
(vii) CSA/Can C22.2 No. 136-1966, “Flexible Metal Conduit and Liquid-Tight
Flexible Metal Conduit” Non-Metallic Duct; rigid PVC Schedule 40
conforming to CSA?CAN C22.2 No. 136-1966, Rigid PVC (Unplasitized)
