Assign volunteers to define and write definitions on the board. Students write them on their notebook paper folded four times to make 8 places. As you all are filling the books out together, as the following questions: o What are you forbidden to do? o What is an antonym for reluctant? o What is an example of a mischievous act by a child? An adult? o How might a person overcome his/ her hesitation to do something? o Name 3 things that blare. o How would you feel if someone gossiped about you? o What is a synonym for the word elegant? Ask: What would it be like to live in the Caribbean? What makes it different from the mainland culture? Give the class a problem a new teacher could have. Ex: too much talking during instruction. Have the students brainstorm 3 solutions to the problem.2. Give the students a problem a student might have. Ex: a friend told your secret to someone else. Have the students brainstorm 3 solutions to the problem Independent practice: Choose a problem you have had in the past or one you are comfortable writing down now. Write the problem on a piece of paper and put your # on the back, so the teacher knows who to give it back to. Turn in the slip to the teacher’s basket. The teacher will pull one and give out randomly. The students will write 3 solutions to the problem and turn back in to the teacher. The teacher will redistribute the problems now with solutions. If students feel comfortable, they may share the responses they received and discuss.
