Project Title: Establishment of STARBOOKS (Science and Technology Academic and Research-Based Openly Operated Kiosk Stations) of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) as Additional Learning Resources II. Proponent: SHEENE CATHERINE R. NEPOMUCENO III. Time Frame: May -December 2022 IV. Target Beneficiaries: San Juan High School students, teachers, community and other stakeholders V. Rationale: The COVID-19 pandemic has underscored the pressing need to focus more on elevating the interest of students in science, technology and innovation. This public health emergency has urged schools to be resourceful and innovative in delivering quality, accessible and relevant education. In response to this, San Juan High School believe that acquiring STARBOOKS will enhance the students’ interest in science and technology which has been a challenged to teachers and students because of the pandemic. STARBOOKS or the Science and Technology Academic and Research Based Openly Operated Kiosk Stations of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) is an offline library-in-a-box that contains thousands of digital resources on science, technology, engineering and mathematics in various texts, video and audio formats placed in “pods” set in a user-friendly interface. Making it available in the school will augment the curiosity of the students as well as the community in the world of science and technology. With this, San Juan High School has reached out to the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) for the realization of the said project. VI. Improve the learning environments of the school Make STARBOOKS available to the community and other stakeholders Project Description: STARBOOKS also known as “library-in-a-box” is the first digital library in the Philippines that contains science and technology based educational and learning resources in different formats. It will be situated in a secure and conducive area like the library where it can be easily access by the students and teachers. STARBOOKS will also be made available to the community and other stakeholders who need access to learning resources related to science and technology. VIII. Implementation Plan: A. Send request for Virtual Walkthrough via email B. Virtual Walkthrough via Zoom C. Send request letter to the Regional Director of DOST Region V for approval of installation of STARBOOKS D. Preparation/Submission of proposal to the school head for approval E. Preparation of required documents; MOU between DOST and San Juan High school F. Preparation of required server for the STARBOOKS G. Site inspection and initial assessment of equipment/requirements H. Installation of STARBOOKS IX. Monitoring and Evaluation: The school will submit monthly accomplishment/progress report including statistics of log usage, problems met, comments and suggestions to improve the system that will be submitted every 10th day of the following month to DOST-ST II.
