Barrett of Prescott, Arizona, was elected as the new association Chairman-elect at NPGA’s summer Board of Directors meeting held June 11, 2007 in Washington, D.C. “Malcolm will be a great Chairman when he takes over next year,” said Keith McMahan, NPGA’s new Chairman of the Board. “Malcolm’s dynamic personality, his take-charge attitude, his dedication to the association, plus his many years of small business and political experience, will be an immense asset for all of us over the next year as he serves as Chairman-elect and when he takes over as Chairman next June.” NPGA Board of Directors selected the same day Keith McMahan of Federalsburg, Maryland as the association’s Chairman for 2007-2008. NPGA Chairman-elect serve one year and then are automatically elevated to the post of Chairman at the following year’s June Board meeting. Barrett will serve as the NPGA Chairman for 2008-2009. Barrett has served extensively in volunteer leadership positions in the propane industry’s associations. For the last year, he has served as NPGA’s Vice-Chairman. In 2005, he was the association’s Treasurer. He also has been an active member of the association’s Governmental Affairs Committee. He was the chairman of PropanePAC, the industry’s political action committee, and has served as NPGA’s Arizona State Director. He is also a director of the Arizona Propane Gas Association. Barrett is president of Patriot Propane, the latest in a long line of successful businesses in which he has been involved. Patriot Propane is based in Ramona, California and was co-founded by Barrett, his son Dave and another partner in 2002. In 1987, he purchased the family business and successfully built it up until he sold it in 1997. From 1966 to 1987, Barrett was a pilot for American Airlines. While in the aviation industry, he founded a property management company and two software development companies. He also served as the chairman of the Los Angeles chapter of the Allied Pilots Association. He was a Navy carrier fighter pilot for eight years and is a Vietnam veteran. Barrett’s professional and community activities are extensive. He is the 2005 Arizona Small Business Champion Award winner, given by the National Federation of Independent Businesses. He was a director of the Arizona Chamber of Commerce and the past president of the Prescott Frontier Rotary Club. He was a member of the Arizona Governor’s Small Business Executive Council and served in 1995 as a delegate to the White House Conference on Small Business. (more) Barrett is no stranger to politics. He was the First Vice-Chairman of the Arizona Republican Party and served as a delegate to the 2000 and 2004 Republican National Conventions. He was also appointed as an Arizona Republican elector for the Electoral College in the 1996 and 2004 U.S. Presidential elections. He lives in Prescott, Arizona with his wife of 52 years, Nancy. He has four children and 11 grandchildren. He continues to be active in aviation today, flying his private plane. NPGA elected new leadership at its 2007 Board of Directors meeting. Keith McMahan of Federalsburg, Maryland was sworn in as Chairman for the 2007-2008 term. Joe Cordill of Winnsboro, Louisiana was elected Vice-Chairman.
