Student clearly demonstrated effective
pace, emphasis, and eye contact the
majority of the time during the
performance, but there were some
noticeable moments, (pausing awkwardly,
speeding up, reading lines from paper,
etc.) that were not entirely effective.
These moments seemed necessary, not
incidental.
Student spoke with clearly planned,
effective pace and emphasis, engaging in
authentic eye contact throughout the
performance. Could include a few small
missteps with excellent poise and
recovery. Presentation was authentically
enjoyable to watch.
Presentation (x4)
(40%)
Student did not meet the minimum criteria
for any of the three higher categories.
Student frequently did not meet the
proficient criteria for 1 or more of the
essential skills (pace, emphasis, eye
contact), which significantly negatively
impacted, but did not halt, the
presenter’s ability to convey ideas to the
audience.
Multimedia
(10%)
Multimedia did not meet criteria for any of
the other categories or was not present at
all.
Multimedia aspect was evident, but
generally ineffective (not relevant to point,
too small, went too fast, etc.) and/or
sometimes distracting to the meaning of
the presentation.
A purpose for the multimedia aspect
could be surmised, but it did not blend
smoothly into the performance and/or
added little meaning of the presentation.
Multimedia aspect was clearly planned to
blend in and support the performance of the
poem and did so effectively, adding to the
meaning of the presentation.
Student missed many requirements listed
on the Iliad Culminating Activity and
related instructions, but still writes a poem
which uses quotes from the Iliad to
compare an instinct, attitude, or value
from the Iliad to today’s society. The
comparison may be mostly surface level
though.
Student followed most requirements listed
on the Iliad Culminating Activity and
related instructions to write a poem which
effectively compares an instinct, attitude,
or value from the Iliad to today’s society,
going beyond the surface level. This
must include but is not limited to:
 use of properly cited quotes
 use of 75% of required rhetorical
devices and marking them using the
default footnotes or comments in
MS Word.
 A clear thesis
