She is responsible for advancing the firm's diversity and inclusion strategy, throughout the US offices. Immediately before joining DLA Piper, Ms. Bailey worked as a diversity recruiter and consultant, advising law firms on diversity best practices. Prior to that, she practiced law in the music industry advising independent artists and small businesses in the areas of entity formation, contracts, trademarks and copyrights. Ms. Bailey has appeared as a speaker, moderator and trainer on the topic of diversity and inclusion and firmly believes that a diverse and inclusive work environment is a richer one that produces greater appreciation for differences and generates better business. JASON L. BROWN Since October 2010, Jason L. Brown has served as the Executive Director and General Counsel for the National Association of Minority and Women Owned Law Firms (NAMWOLF). He provides direction, vision and leadership to NAMWOLF as it strives to become the leading organization in the legal community dedicated to diversity through lasting partnerships between minority and women owned law firms and private/public entities. In addition to his administrative role as NAMWOLF’s chief executive, he oversees all programs and initiatives of the organization and is responsible for all legal and government-related issues. Prior to NAMWOLF, Mr. Brown worked for PepsiAmericas, Inc. as Director of Legal/Senior Counsel – Domestic and Caribbean in Schaumburg, Illinois. PepsiAmericas was the second largest Pepsi bottler in the world with operations in the U.S., Central Europe and the Caribbean. At PepsiAmericas, he handled a variety of legal issues including – all forms of litigation, risk management, government relations, promotional/sweepstakes issues, negotiating and drafting customer and vendor agreements, corporate compliance and fraud. He also served as the President of the PepsiAmericas Foundation. Mr. Brown graduated from Howard University School of Law in Washington, D.C. He began his legal career as an associate at the law firm of Winthrop & Weinstine, P.A. in Minneapolis, Minnesota practicing in the area of general commercial and employment litigation. Mr. Brown joined the law firm of Ungaretti & Harris in Chicago, Illinois in 2000. At Ungaretti, Mr. Brown was a member of the firm’s litigation department and focused his practice in the areas of mass tort litigation, internal investigations, contract and general corporate disputes. Mr. Brown sits on the Board of Directors for the Chicago Chapter of the Association for Corporate Counsel and served as the Chapter’s President for 2008-2009. Since 2006, he has served as the Chair of the Diversity Committee of ACC Chicago and has been instrumental in the development and growth of its Summer Minority Internship Program. Mr. Brown served on the Executive Committee for the Chicago Metro Golf Classic benefiting the American Cancer Society 2009-2010. He is also a Past-President of the Chicago Chapter of the Howard University Alumni Association. PAUL CHADHA Paul Chadha is an attorney with Accenture. A key member of the Legal Group for more than four years, his practice is in the field of corporate law and structuring transactions. Chadha helps support many of the diversity initiatives driven by the Legal Group. Since 2006, he has served as an adjunct professor at Northwestern University School of Law, where he teaches a course on negotiations. Chadha honorably served in the United States Air Force and United States Air Force Reserves from 1993-1999. He remains an active member of many community and civic organizations. He can be contacted at paul.chadha@accenture.com. CAROLYN H. CLIFT Carolyn H. Clift is the Senior Vice President and Chief Diversity Officer of Health Care Service Corporation (a Mutual Legal Reserve Company, operating as Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Illinois, Texas, New Mexico and Texas). In this position, she is responsible for leading the company’s diversity-related strategic opportunities. Ms. Clift joined the company as in-house counsel and worked through the ranks, before being appointed Vice-President - General Counsel and Assistant Secretary. A former Cook County Assistant State’s Attorney, she received her bachelor’s degree from Chicago State University, her juris doctorate from John Marshall Law School, and her masters of law in health care law from DePaul College of Law. Clift is currently the President of the Illinois Equal Justice Foundation board of directors, and serves on the boards of directors of Hubbard Street Dance Chicago, Chicago State University Foundation, National American Lung Association, and the DePaul Health Law Institute Advisory Board. Clift was recognized as one of the Chicago United 2005 Business Leaders of Color. She is a former member of the Chicago Bar Association Board of Managers, and the boards of the Federal Bar Association and the Chicago Anti-Hunger Federation. MENTORING PANEL ALLYSON BOULDON Allyson Bouldon joined Mead Johnson Nutrition Company in the Summer of 2009 as its Assistant General Counsel, Labor and Compliance. Mead Johnson is a global leader in infants’ and children’s nutritional products, including the Enfamil® and Enfalac® families of infant formulas as well as regional children's nutritional products Enfagrow®, Enfapro®, Enfakid®, EnfaSchool®, and Sustagen® in Asia, and Choco Milk® and Cal-C-Tose® in Mexico and Latin America. In this capacity, Ms. Bouldon is responsible for the Company’s global compliance and related policy efforts including Foreign Corrupt Practices Act and Code of Conduct matters. She is also responsible for data privacy, employment and labor matters globally. Ms. Bouldon is also immediate Past President of the Association of Corporate Counsel’s Chicago Chapter. The Chapter currently has over 1600 members and has received national recognition for its membership retention, support of diversity, innovative programming, and overall outstanding achievements. Prior to joining Mead Johnson, Ms. Bouldon was the first General Counsel hired by Tegrant Corporation and she subsequently became its Vice President and General Counsel. Tegrant Corporation, formerly SCA Packaging North America, is a leading provider of protective, retail and temperature assurance packaging products. Tegrant also manufactures component parts and building product materials for a wide variety of customers. Composed of four business units, Tegrant operates more than 30 manufacturing, design, sales, and testing facilities throughout the United States, Mexico and Canada. As Vice President and General Counsel, Ms. Bouldon provided legal and administrative support to the Company in all aspects of its operations. Areas of responsibility included: serving as Corporate Secretary for parent and subsidiary companies; M&A support; Antitrust counseling, Litigation; Litigation Supervision; Real Estate; Environmental, Health & Safety; Credit; Labor; Employment & Benefits; Intellectual Property; Crisis and Internal Investigation management; Policy development and Contracts. Prior to joining Tegrant, Ms. Bouldon served as Counsel - Americas for the Wm. Wrigley Jr. Company located in Chicago, Illinois. She was also a law firm Associate and she held an in-house position in the healthcare field. Ms. Bouldon is a graduate of The Law School at the University of Chicago and of Dartmouth College. She is President of the Association of Corporate Counsel, Chicago Chapter, a Fellow of the American Bar Foundation, an author, and a frequent guest speaker. MARK I. FELDMAN Mark I. Feldman's practice focuses on trademarks, patents, copyrights, trade secrets, and Internet and technology law. Mr. Feldman has extensive experience counseling clients on domestic and international intellectual property registration, enforcement and licensing. His litigation experience includes oral arguments before the Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit and the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board of the United States Patent and Trademark Office. He has litigated the protectability of color as a trademark in cases relating to low-calorie sweeteners, golf club shafts, and prescription pharmaceuticals; the enhanced scope of protection for famous trademarks like the NutraSweet; trademark priority disputes; the genericness of a religious leader's name; and the protection of the distinctive interior design and exterior trade dress of franchised restaurants. He has determined the worldwide availability of new company names for a number of Fortune 100 companies. Mr. Feldman has written a chapter on "Trademark Law for The Franchisor" in a course book from the Practicing Law Institute and has published various articles on trademark law in the Franchise Legal Digest. He has been a speaker on due diligence, licensing and franchise issues and international trademark registration strategies. The respected English research firm Chambers & Partners cites Mr. Feldman in Chambers USA: America's Leading Lawyers for Business (2010), and has commented that "clients praise Feldman's business and sector knowledge as well as his "superb client service" and that he is regarded as "one of the premier trademark lawyers in the USA." Mr. Feldman was nominated by his peers to appear in An International Who's Who of Trademark Lawyers (Law Business Research Ltd. 2003 and 2004); the Guide to the World's Leading Trademark Law Practitioners in every edition since 2002; and The Best Lawyers in America in the area of intellectual property law. JOHN MITCHELL John Mitchell is a lawyer and a leader. He is committed to helping lawyers discover and maximize their leadership potential so that they continuously develop themselves and their firms in pursuit of changing the world. John specializes in working with lawyers who are in formal roles like managing partner, practice group leaders and committee chairs and those in informal leadership roles. He also supports junior associates, new partners, major rainmakers and senior lawyers considering their “second season” in life. Helping leaders transition to new leadership positions is one area of John’s expertise. He also has extensive experience assisting women and attorneys of color successfully apply their talents in new roles and new environments. Mr. Mitchell’s unique background brings personal experience to these types of transitions and his educational experiences ground those first hand experiences with sound theory and applied research. During the past three years John has coached and/or consulted with hundreds of lawyers and dozens of law firms throughout the United States. This work has included everything from teaching inexperienced attorneys (and some later bloomers) business development skills to helping senior rainmakers take their game up another notch or two; from helping to develop new leaders to creating a process for successful succession planning and transition of senior leaders; and from leading firm retreats to advising management committees on a variety of strategic issues. John’s 20 plus years of business experience ranges from working as a professional in a social service agency, to practicing law in a large international law firm, to leading a large urban affiliate of an internationally known not-for-profit housing development organization, to starting a successful company that helps leaders develop and hone their own unique leadership style. He also has extensive leadership experience serving on various not-for-profit boards of directors, and in civic and professional organizations. His experience is supplemented by his educational pursuits at Northwestern University that include a Bachelor of Science degree in Speech (Communication Studies), a Juris Doctor degree, and a Master of Business Administration degree from the J.L. Kellogg School of Management. When he is not working with clients, John can often be found running or cycling along Chicago's beautiful lakefront. He is also likely to be found with his wife at one of the city’s many restaurants, cultural institutions or music festivals. An annual pilgrimage to the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival, visits with friends around the country, and bicycle trips anywhere the terrain is more varied than Chicago's keep John on the move. MARY JO QUINN Mary Jo has been in the Law Department of Allstate Insurance Company since September 1996, serving mainly in the Investment Law Division and for three years in the Corporate Law Division. In Investment Law, Ms. Quinn mainly provides legal review of municipal bond transactions, distressed securities and structured financings. She is also active in legislative issues related to financial reform. From 1990 to 1996, Mary Jo worked for the law firm of Jones Day where she served as bond counsel to numerous governmental entities and had extensive experience in serving as counsel to issuers, underwriters and letter of credit banks; and provided legal services on tax-exempt derivative products. From 1988 to 1990, Mary Jo worked for Kutak Rock, serving as bond counsel and underwriter’s counsel. Mary Jo received her B.S. with highest honors from the University of Wisconsin (1977), and her J.D., from University of California-Hastings College of Law (1988), where she was a Tony Patino Fellow. ADP, Inc. is a publically held company that is noted for providing paychecks for 29 million workers worldwide, processing secure transactions and delivering computing solutions for the automotive industry in 13 countries. Historically, Ms. Darrow’s responsibilities have focused on negotiating international technology transactions, intellectual property and providing day to day legal support for the Dealer Services Division of ADP, Inc. In the last few years her practice has expanded and evolved to include Digital Marketing, Digital Advertising and Social Media. Prior to joining ADP, Ms. Darrow worked as in house counsel for AFLAC in Georgia and then moved to Chicago to take a position with Lucent Technologies to negotiate international telecommunication deals. Ms. Darrow currently serves as the Secretary of the Chicago Chapter of the Association of Corporate Counsel after being the Treasurer from 2008-2010. Ms. Darrow is also the past president of the Western Auxiliary of Hephzibah Children’s Association and continues to work with this organization to promote foster care services in the state of Illinois. Ms. Darrow is licensed to practice law in both Georgia and Illinois. She received her JD from the University of North Carolina and her BA in Art History, cum laude, from Duke University. Between graduating from Duke and attending law school, Ms. Darrow served as U.S. Peace Corps volunteer in the Philippines and worked as production assistant for CNN in Moscow, Russia. DANIEL HARPER Dan Harper is Vice President, Corporate Counsel and Secretary for Océ North America, Inc. He provides leadership and general legal guidance and counsel to the North American operations of Océ N.V. a publicly traded Dutch company, the majority shares of which are owned by Canon, Inc. Dan is a member of the Océ North America Wide Format Division senior management team. His responsibilities at Océ include providing strategic advice to the senior management team of Océ-USA Holding, Inc., Océ's U.S. parent. He participates as a leader on corporate wide initiatives as well as provides counseling on commercial transactions (sales, ERM, licensing, dealer), employment matters, internal investigations, litigation, corporate policy and procedure, compliance, intellectual property, software licensing, technology and marketing. Prior to joining Océ, Dan was Senior Counsel at Spiegel, Inc., reporting to the CEO. He provided legal guidance to the Information Technology and iMedia groups for the corporate parent as well as for Eddie Bauer, Spiegel Catalog and Newport News subsidiaries. Dan managed the Spiegel Group intellectual property portfolio (over 600 registered trademarks), negotiated and drafted commercial transactions, managed litigation, was a member of Spiegel Group Corporate Policy Committee and was the chairman of the Spiegel Group Corporate Privacy Committee. Prior to Spiegel, Dan was in private practice with the law firm of Carey, Filter, White & Boland, a boutique general practice firm in Chicago, dividing his time between litigation and transactional work. Dan is the past Secretary of the Information Technology and eCommerce Committee of the Association of Corporate Counsel (ACC) and is a member of the board of directors of the Chicago Chapter of ACC, serving as Board Secretary for board years 2007 – 2009, PresidentElect for board year 2009-2010 and President for board year 2010-2011. Dan frequently serves on faculty CLE panels at the national level for ACC and speaks to law firms on the ACC Value Challenge and writes a weekly column for the on-line version of the Chicago Lawyer Magazine. Dan received a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from Villanova University with a minor in Religious Studies and is a graduate of DePaul University College of Law. CHRISTINA L. MARTINI Christina L. Martini is a partner with DLA Piper. She is Vice Chair of the Chicago Intellectual Property Practice Group and is a member of the Policy Committee. Ms. Martini focuses her practice on domestic and international trademark and copyright law, as well as domain name, Internet, advertising, unfair competition and entertainment law. She has extensive experience in counseling, prosecution, enforcement, due diligence and licensing matters, and in assisting clients in protecting their intellectual property rights through litigation and other means, including the courts and uniform dispute resolution procedures. Ms. Martini regularly advises clients in the areas of brand development and management, and she develops, manages, maintains and enforces large intellectual property portfolios. She works closely with clients from the beginning stages of product development and provides strategic advice in searching and filing for brand names domestically and internationally. She creates global filing strategies to maximize clients' protection of their valuable brands in a streamlined, cost-effective way, and manages the global registration, maintenance, enforcement, licensing and disposition of those rights. Ms. Martini also creates and implements intellectual property policies which are specifically tailored to meet clients' legal and business needs. In addition, she has extensive experience in negotiating and drafting a wide variety of agreements which address various intellectual property rights. She has also been instrumental in numerous litigation successes in federal and state courts, and in domain name proceedings before various administrative organizations such as the World Intellectual Property Organization. ROBBINS Jenifer Robbins is the General Counsel of FPL Advisory Group, a family of companies which provide corporate and managerial advisory services to the real estate and financial services industries. In her role as General Counsel, Ms. Robbins oversees all aspects of the legal affairs of FPL’s international consulting practice, including strategic counseling, contract negotiation, transaction evaluation and execution, litigation management, corporate policy creation, and all forms of legal risk management. Prior to joining FPL, Ms. Robbins was with the Chicago-based law firm Katten Muchin Rosenman where she counseled public and private clients on a variety of general corporate and commercial matters, including mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures, start-ups and private equity and corporate finance transactions. Ms. Robbins is a past President and former board member of the Chicago Chapter of the Association of Corporate Counsel and currently serves as the chapter’s coordinator for the Chicago Public Schools portion of the ACC Chicago Street Law Diversity Pipeline Program. Ms. Robbins is also a member of the Executive Committee of the Chicago Bar Association Alliance for Women and serves as Co-Chair of its Cross-Career Networking Committee.
