Teacher Bio:
I began teaching as a Physics TA at UNLV in 1977 after graduating with a BA in Physics. I worked as a
ceramics engineer during the early 1980s in Southern California using a scanning electron microscope. In the
mid-1980s I developed as a math tutor, later instructor at San Diego State University to support your present
success. In my early 1990s I earned a MA in Educational Technology during the beginning of the Internet.
Teaching Math and Science in Las Vegas, Hawaii, CA, and AZ honed my understanding of students while
learning challenging subjects. My hobbies are Astronomy, Boogie boarding, the river and organic gardening.
Course Description:
This course includes an introduction to points, lines, planes, triangles and other polygons. We will be studying
coordinate geometry with an emphasis on plane geometry. This course also introduces inductive and deductive
proofs. This geometry course will focus on the skills necessary for student success on the AZMerit test.
Pre-requisites: Algebra I
Goals/Objectives
1.
2.
3.
4.
5.
To develop an understanding of geometric relationships
To develop an understanding of the meaning and nature of proof
To teach deductive reasoning
To develop the ability to think creatively and critically in mathematical and non-mathematical situations.
To integrate geometry, with arithmetic, algebra, and numeric concepts.
Grading:
Grading will follow the policy of the Parker School District:
A = 90% - 100%
B = 80% - 89%
C = 70% - 79%
D = 60% - 69%
F = 0% - 59%
Text:
Geometry, McGraw Hill-Glencoe, 2014.
Evaluations:
Evaluations will follow the policy of the Parker High School district:
Tests/Projects: 25-50% Skills/Competencies: 25-50% Home/Class work: 15-25% Participation: 10-25%
Requirements:
A variety of “Active Learning” activities involving physical participation of students will be used. Students
will be required to bring a pencil, paper, textbook, 3-ring binder, and any assigned homework with them
every class period.

Resources:
Parker High School has a free after-school tutoring program to help prevent students from falling behind. The
following are a list of websites that may be useful to students who struggle with math:
http://www.yahoo.com/Science/Mathematics
http://www.quickmath.com
www.kutasoftware.com/
https://www.khanacademy.org/
Behavioral Expectations:
Students will be expected to listen to the teacher, ask questions about math when they don’t understand
concepts, and help other students. “Teaching” others is the best way to improve long-term learning. See the
Parker High School Student Handbook for other student behavioral requirements.
Consequences of Misbehavior:
See the Parker High School Student Handbook for the discipline matrix.
Helpful Hints:
Take responsibility for learning every assigned problem. There are many ways to learn and nearly infinite
sources for help. Students should go to after-school tutoring or request assistance from the teacher as soon as
they realize they are unable to do the homework. There is no charge to the students for this help. Learning
mathematics skills requires practice. Practice leads to improvement and increased mastery. Students need to do
their homework every day and be prepared to ask any question that they might have.
Course Outline:
1. Tools of Geometry.
2. Reasoning and Proof.
3. Parallel and Perpendicular Lines.
4. Congruent Triangles
